LeVar Burton lands guest host gig on 'Jeopardy!' after more than 246,000 fans sign online petition

a story which brought a genuine smile to our grumpy mug.

HA! Good Fun!

Have you seen any of the guest hosts? I heard Aaron Rogers did a pretty good job. The others have had mixed reviews. No one seemed to like Dr. Oz. I'd imagine Anderson Cooper is having no trouble with this gig though.

One of the things I noticed with Dr. Oz - Ken Jennings and Mark Richards, when they had the 'banter time' would tend to talk about Alex Trebek.  Katie Couric talked about the charity fundraising.  Dr. Oz talked about...himself.  Not always directly, like one time he wanted to complement the contestants for their skill and intelligence and his statement was something like "I continue to be amazed about how the contestants keep exceeding my expectations" making the complement less about the contestant skill and more about him.  Maybe its just my perception, but it just didn't sit right to me.  It may also be, to be fair, an artifact of his show, which I think is very much built around his opinion so it may have become his default to have off-the-cuff remarks to position things around his opinion, expertise or view of the topic at hand.

Aaron Rogers had a very slow delivery, which threw me when he started, but I ended up liking him pretty well.  There are a few guest hosts I'm interested in seeing how they do, but I'm excited for LeVar Burton to have a chance to host.  Really glad to see that happen.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

I can kind of see LeVar Burton being kept in that role, unlike the other guests.

https://www.ign.com/articles/russian-man-trapped-on-chinese-tv-show-for-3-months-finally-gets-to-go-home?

Vladislav Ivanov, a 27-year-old from Vladivostok, quickly realized that the devil works hard but the public works harder after he signed up to be a contestant on Produce Camp 2021, a Chinese boy group survival show, and almost instantly regretted his decision. He implored viewers to let him leave the show but instead, they supported him right the way through to the final.

While most of the contestants sang for survival each week, hoping to make it into the 11-member international boy group left standing at the end of the series, Ivanov was crooning to be cut loose, having originally joined the show as a Chinese translator before being persuaded by directors to shoot for stardom. "They asked if I'd like to try a new life," Ivanov reportedly revealed during the series.

Ransomware operators have delivered a stunning ultimatum to Washington, DC’s Metropolitan Police Department: pay them $50 million or they’ll leak the identities of confidential informants to street gangs.

Babuk, as the group calls itself, said on Monday that it had obtained 250GB of sensitive data after hacking the MPD network. The group’s site on the darkweb has posted dozens of images of what appear to be sensitive MPD documents. One screenshot shows a Windows directory titled Disciplinary Files. Each of the 28 files shown lists a name. A check of four of the names shows they all belong to MPD officers.

Perhaps one of the most incredible sculptures in the world. It was created by an unknown French sculptor in the 19th century. Stored in the Indian Museum Salar Jang.

There is a well-known sculpture called "The Double Statue of Mephistopheles and Margarita". The fact is that on one side of the statue there is a male figure, and on the other - a female one. There is a large mirror behind the sculpture so that you can see both figures and appreciate the skill of the author of this unusual creation. The sculpture is created from a single piece of the oldest sycamore tree.

Well, it's the NYPD, would be a little while before they strap some M4s to the side 😛 But yeah, wasn't too sure what people were on about with this being militarization of the police.

The novel is intended as an allegory rather than a commentary on social status. But I suppose we all have agendas.

Steven Seagal Ruins Out for Justice Every Chance He Gets (collider.com)

The first thing you need to know about Out for Justice is that Steven Seagal allegedly **** his pants on set.

You see, in addition to being a notorious bastard who has been collecting sexual misconduct allegations almost since the moment he arrived in Hollywood, Seagal also has an infamous habit of mistreating stunt performers. He’s been accused of intentionally hitting stuntpeople several times by several performers, including Kane Hodder and legendary stunt coordinator / mixed martial artist Gene LeBell. As it happens, LeBell was the stunt coordinator on Out for Justice, and as the story goes, Seagal was up to his usual horse****, endangering the stunt team because he likes to hit people who aren’t allowed to hit him back. At one point (allegedly), Seagal announced to the crew that because he was an Aikido master, it was physically impossible to choke him out. Not just that he could escape any hold, mind you – he contested that it simply could not be done.

You may recognize this as a thing that isn’t true, and Gene LeBell did as well. So, LeBell (allegedly) said, “I’ll test that out for you,” and proceeded to strangle Seagal into unconsciousness. Seagal, his (alleged) Aikido training having (allegedly) failed him, slipped into the dreamlands, which for him is (allegedly) a cyclopean landscape full of illegal pornography. As he (allegedly) passed out, Seagal (allegedly) evacuated his bowels like his colon just received a mysterious package. Again, allegedly.

@BruceVC Do you know how it ended?

I dont, I must look into it. This type of crime is not common but more seasonal  and involves criminal syndicates that are well armed due to the fact you can buy guns illegally on the streets so these types of security guards are normally very brave and do put their lives on the line when they transport money

https://www.quantumrun.com/country-predictions/china/2030

Ok guys since I'm a gambler by trade (Not my first career choice but I must deal with the cards that I am dealt, no pun intended) let's place bets.

The Chinese as well as a surprising number of intellectuals are claiming China will overtake the U.S. by 2030 some even say by 2x.

Since the Chinese have a habit of high balling their predictions vs reality -they claimed they'd achieve 8% economic growth in 2020 but in reality it was somewhere around 6.2%- I'm gonna say that China may in fact overtake the U.S. by 2035, and the U.S. could very well indeed fall to 3rd place behind both China and India.

The United States would remain powerful but instead of an empire it will be the worlds #1 place for intellectuals various other opportunists seeking new life.  The U.S. has the best universities and educational centers bar none, everyone from all walks of life come here to study.

The U.S. is far too internally divided to remain #1 so I base most of my judgement on that premise.  Civil strife could in fact break us.
