I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Well it’s not free to play, if you need to pay for it with your free time, which you could spent on something more fun... like lobotomy...

Yeah Epic Games Store is like a godsend, I never even bothered to play/buy GTAV and now it's free to try out.  Same thing happened with Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Just Cause 4 among others, games I never bothered to apply cash to that turn out to actually be fun to tinker around on.

Look at it like this, Tim Sweeney and GabeN are both billionaires with way more money then they'll ever need, so them duking it out among themselves generates better things for us plebs because they're too busy trying to make themselves look better than the other.

Epic does need to catch up on features like Achievements though.

The absence of the "social" bs is the thing I like about EGS. I have claimed a copy of GTAV, but considering its download size, it will just sit in my library for now.

I would invite GOG to join the fray but they strike me as very European and lack that American fierce "Clash of the Titans" competitiveness and are probably content being a smaller tertiary player with a carved out niche.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

That's how life works, irregardless of economic model.  Hell, I'd gladly pay taxes for a state sponsored Game Store if it means yet another entity to compete with.

Subsidies and state monopolies end in disaster, not only it removes the profit motive from the company but it will sustain failing practices.

But that's exactly my point!  Any monopoly, private or public, is bad.  Unfortunately, westerners are still of this mindset that it has to be all one or all the other, rather than a mixed bag.

On the other hand uncontrollable private monopolies are as damaging to economy as state monopolies, and without subsidies, the agriculture in some countries would not exist anymore...

Unions have nothing to do with socialism. Unions help workers to get what they deserve. Just compare the crunch exploitation of game creators and the “small” workers around movie creation. The video game people in numerous cases do not even get credited for their hard work...

Labor Unions in the past have been heavily funded and influenced by Communist Superpowers, my comment however was a dig at how quick people jump into the Union bandwagon without knowing what it entails. You are literally paying people to boss you around, I get enough of that with the government.

I don't even think Unions are necessary anymore.  All we have to do is open up a "Green" public sector with guaranteed employment with decent wages and benefits and that would force the private sector to compete.

Welcome to the 21st century, where friendly competition is the new egalitarian cooperation.

LOL. Why would they compete if they could take those guaranteed employment, decent wage and benefits and maybe have their private business work off hours or during.

I disagree with any solution that involves government as it would subject to some unnecessary scrutiny and regulations (E.G: Diversity quotas) as I mentioned before it removes the profit motive which it would kill any incentive to compete. Best solution is to lower the entry requirements to open a business so that those that have the know how and will can start their own companies. We've seen that work with some Kickstarter successes

Well, there's always a quota, but there's literally nothing wrong with offering state jobs for whoever wants one.  More options is always better.  It keeps everyone honest and everyone benefits in the end.  The best economies are 2/3 private and 1/3 public, each 1/3 with it's own flavor.

You got Coke Red, Pepsi Blue, why not add a *insert state manufactured* Green Cola into the mix as well?

The problem with State job options that in a healthy economy your tax dollars would be propping up a failing business, so heavier taxation would be required to support it which won't bode well in times of crisis like right now since people aren't making as much money therefore they fall under a lower tax bracket. More so, if the 2008 bailout proved anything is that giving government money to failing companies is just a waste of money. They pocketed and let their companies go under.

I don't get why people want to save GameStop and physical retailers. I don't see any of them using landline phones or telegraphs, I might actually lose some respect if I find out they don't use a Sun dial.
