Eh, I dont really care that much and Im good at riding out the pendulum swings. Hes a dumpster fire, but Im not of the opinion that the president has to be a "nice guy", and thats what most of the piggies seems to squeal about loudest. The next clown in office is going to be tripping all over their comically oversize shoes trying to kiss the worlds ass, and I think that will be a mistake too.

Apparently Trump is blaming the media for the stock market spiral today. I had no idea the media owned so much stock!

Fortunately you cannot crash most global stock exchanges by mass selling, today the US markets lost 7 % and circuit-breakers kick in to  pause all trading, its very clever and will kick-in again if the US markets lose 14 %.

Yes but since when do you have to believe what one aspect of the media tells you, surly you can do your own research or use common sense ?

The media doesnt control the narrative, it influences it but we need to decide for ourselves what side of the narrative we believe and or support

Yeah, thats what we humans are good at, reading the fine print and making educated decisions, like in contracts. :p The reality of the situation is that people will believe the FIRST story they see on a matter, and following conversation will be based on that.

Im not sure this is true, its very cynical? But it made me laugh :teehee:

Right! But my point was, if a minor goes into 7/11 and buys a pack of smokes then the vendor can get fined if they are caught. If a minor goes into a bar and gets served then the vendor can be fined if they are caught. You see where this is going? Now what rises to the level of  “age-inappropriate sexual material” in a public library? I dont know. Im sure its something as benign as a stray nipple in a Vogue magazine. Im just trying to explain the stupid bill.

Fist off, the library thing... this is Tennessee, don't take it seriously. It won't pass. There is a lot of stupid s--t that gets tossed against the wall around here.

sell booze to minors just like provide indecent material to kids in a library? maybe not so analogous. after all, there is no first amendment equivalent protecting the right to smoke or drink. that said, goal o' protection o' children does result in a narrow exception to otherwise protected indecent speech. "obscene" may be prohibited w/o any special state or fed laws, but obscene is nevertheless an extreme fluid standard. obscenity wouldn't cover vogue model mishap regardless. indecent speech, on the other hand... still wouldn't be covered (no pun) but would be closer.

george carlin's seven dirty words you can't say on the radio were in fact successful banned from radio 'cause a vulnerable child were unwitting exposed to the indecent comedy performance. *gasp* parent (coincidental, the parent were a planning board member o' Morality in Media, a group dedicated to removing filth from tv and radio) were taking his son  (tender age o' fifteen) to visit yale during what would otherwise be school hours and had car radio playing when the skit were on a local radio station... or so it were claimed by the plaintiffs. sure, the situation were 'bout as contrived as a hannity "news" spot, but for sake o' the case, facts were accepted as valid. regardless, pacifica case set standard for an exception to free speech protections.  indecent may be limited in situations where unwitting minors might be harmed.

however, attempts to ban indecent material from internet to protect children who might access has consistent failed in Court. why is radio different from internet? 'cause. *shrug* in spite o' pacifica, the Court insists limits on indecent speech must be narrow tailored so as to not undue limit adult speech rights. so is a library more like internet or radio? at the very least, some kinda rating system would need be developed to protect librarians, 'cause vagueness is a win for plaintiffs trying to kill such a law as the TN bit,

most common fail for such indecent speech regulations is vagueness. if lawmakers is gonna mess 'round with free speech, they gotta be clear 'bout what is being prohibited. simple rule o' thumb for layman is if a reasonable and ordinary person ain't certain material is prohibited by a law, then it isn't.

is all kinda hurdles for TN law, but is one o' those bits o' doomed legislation which makes a segment o' the constituency happy. faith is their shield 'gainst the devil and injustice... or whatever..

link arms and sing.

am recalling a story from last fall 'bout a michigan woman who checked out a couple books in 2017 and then discovered there were an arrest warrant out in her name 'cause she had failed to return the books. where the sidewalk ends were one o' the books if memory serves.

matter were cleared up after a pro bono lawyer took her case and got the issue attention from national and local media outlets. the county in question (not bloom... which would need be somewhere in iowa?) dropped charges but the woman had to issue a statement she were at fault and pay all fines... which totaled ~$300.

do not mess with michigan librarians, particularly when shel silverstein is involved.

So, let's see here. Over the last few days:

  • The stock market has crashed
  • Bond yields have crashed
  • People are being locked up without being arrested. Yeah, yeah, "quarantined" whatever.
  • There are shortages of drugs
  • There are shortages of medical supplies
  • There are shortages of toilet paper, bottled water, non-perishable food
  • There is an actual black market for hand soap and sanitizer where a $2 bottle sells for $100. That one really surprises me!
  • The medical system is overwhelmed and can't take care of everyone

Don't you guys see what happening here? This is a Bernie Sanders test run! This is Beta version Bernie! A preview of coming attractions!

Oh c'mon... that was funny! I see you out there frowning at your laptop/phone screen.

This post highlights some of the real and irrational   risks if Bernie becomes president, Im sure no one wants this even if the chance is remote. Its much better we dont take the chance in the interests of a  progressive and sustainable global  economy

In local politics it looks like Hickenlooper may not coast to being the Dem candidate for US Senate here after all. If you wonder why this matters at all is because it's very vulnerable seat that can probably be flipped. I'd personally rather vote for Romanoff but TBH I'm voting for anyone other than Gardner.

L0L Sanders. His own fault, though. He's not a Democrat. Yet, people are shocked that the Dems powers-to-be don't want them as their leader. I'm still surprised the Repubs didn't stop Trump's party nomination. They need to be as ruthless and undemcoratic as the Democrats are. L0LZ

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.
