Let's start off a serious topic with something absurd: The United States Space Force has a new logo. People seem to think it look familiar:

Hmmmm.... where have we seen this before?

I'm surprised that the copyright/trademark lawyers aren't all over the US government. The similarity seems rather obvious 🤔

Edit: In hindsight, equally surprised that the military would go for something that is a symbol of a utopian socialist society.

Cool.   Maybe we'll have our first space battle sometime at the tail end of this century.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is very broken politically and economically, so the idea of using any kind of military now, or ever for that matter, makes me sick to my stomach

$23T in debt/unfunded liabilities. It's expanding at a rate of $62,300 per second. Do you know what happens to the US Dollar once it is not longer the standard for international trade (which it is only because of it's stability)?

And there will be no relief no matter who wins in November. The Democrats are promising to spend even more.

But hey, at least we got a f-----g space force out of it.

Nothing new really, even the Roman emperors struggled to finance and pay their legions.

(as there also had to be money on the budget to buy senate votes)

Edit: The ever growing Roman army, which at some point was 80% of the government budget

Remind me how that worked out again?

What's with the constant "Rome" comparison?  If anything the U.S. is like the British Empire 2.0.  You Aussies got it made as you can look at your idiotic dad and older brother with disgust to be the cool rebel of the family.

I think they should have chosen some actual northern constellations rather than just (apparently) a random jumble. For example, Aquila the eagle and Hercules.

The comparison is apt -- the seemingly inexorable authoritarian drift, the fiscal irresponsibility, the dilution of civic virtue especially among the political elites, the migration flows troubles. Of course, no US President has displayed Caligula levels of crazy, and the caravans of migrants coming in from Latin America are nothing compared to the Goths being pushed en masse into Roman territories by the Huns. The US is also still a civil war or ten behind. Nevertheless, the parallels are there, and even if the Founding Fathers didn't mean to build precisely a Third Rome, their work was obviously influenced by their classical educations.

The British Empire on the other hand had centuries of distinct medieval and modern history behind it and it was basically broken by the cost of victory in WWII. Would it still be a superpower today if Hitler had been accepted into art school?

@Guard Dog I think your fears of the US dollar falling from its place as the global reserve currency are mostly unfounded, debt or no, simply because there is no good alternative. I would expect the US to go to *any* lengths to keep it that way, including the use of its space forces.

Meh, just seems strange for the modern era.  I mean, how many years ago was the U.S. classified as a "Rome"?  Human conscience can only perceive things skin deep. You change perception of reality, suddenly things have a different outlook.

Sorry to double post but that's what us deep leftists are trying to do, retransform the way people think and feel so such frivolous thoughts such as empire and power become irrelevant.  All that's left is humans and nature and our interchangeable relationship with one another.

Hm, apparently Space Command's was that so I guess the US military's creatively bankrupt (well as if "Operation Iraqi Freedom" wasn't a sign :P)

Should have gone with something like

If the US does go full authoritarian dystopia they can always rotate their space force logo 90 degrees to get the Blake's 7 Federation logo instead of the ST one.

The new Zumwalt Class ships have had little good news in recent years. Between propulsion problems and a primary weapon system that was, and I'll be kind, not ready for primetime, the US stealth destroyer has had a rocky start. Looks like things are improving: https://www.defensenews.com/naval/2020/01/23/heres-how-the-ddg-1000s-stealthy-hull-design-handles-stormy-seas/

I really love the design of the Zumwalt, though. Think it looks great and very futuristic.

US Army is having trouble with physical fitness: https://mwi.usma.edu/army-physical-fitness-problem-part-1-eight-myths-weaken-combat-readiness/

I bet Shady and Manifested remember this double time cadence:

Army Army tell me please

Why your belly hangs to your knees

Is it whiskey or is it wine?

Or is it a lack of PT time?

I'll tell you one thing. No one ever said such about the Marine Corps. Whatever else you might be, if you're in the Corps your ass WILL be physically fit. We might not be smart but we fast and we strong!

^I've seen those type of things before but did not think they were ready for full battlefield deployment outside of like marksmen and snipers
