Metaturtle
For real? OMG. Where's the catch? Well to reach those numbers you have to hold your focus since the values update as your focus fluctuates and it also needs to crit to apply. For something like an Ascendant, you'll drop your focus after ascended and you have to decide whether to use your actions to attack or to cast spells. Soul Blades have a lower focus cap, but I think you probably can do more burst damage just Soul Annihilating rather than waiting for ticks to go. The ability does sound pretty good for tanky builds that outlast though. Edited September 26, 2018 by Metaturtle 1 Filthy Chanter Main
Sobric
The Best Defense works like Tuitolos Palm? Great! I've been brainstorming a Vailian Duelist character using rapiers and small shields and stacking deflection. Some of this equipment looks perfect for it! Still it stacks with the regular hit DoT from final upgrade, which isn't too shabby either. And it looks pretty sweet for my Ascendant / Helwalker... Regarding Ascension, with SoT it lasts plenty of time to do both

I am thinking about Ranger/Cipher with Big/Medium Shield + Rapier, so you basically cast Ectopsychic Echo/Disintegration/Soul Ignition/Rapier DoT, your damage not so high as Rogue/Cipher, but Ranger garant you stable Crits, I already has such build, but it lack of good melee weapon 1 Solo PotD builds: The Glanfathan Soul Hunter (Neutral seer. Haplok
Well, ranger/Cipher is good for landing stuff and getting crits. But personally I like classes that magnify damage output and/or increase speed. With the rapier, a case could even be made for a Psyblade. Clear Out with fighter's Intuitive Strikes at max Focus would be pretty awesome. Can then switch weapons after affecting a few enemies with the DoT. Single weapon style for even more crit chance? Berserker Witch would also work. Can't aoe DoT, but the critical conversion, speed and bonuses would be nice. Haplok
Yeah, yeah. That's a damn powerful combo. On the other hand, you might as well abandon casting and stick to attacking then. And using tricks like Powder Burns kinda hurts your accuracy (you debuff Perception AND can't buff it). Frequent weapon switching is a pain too. I must say I personally really enjoy Helwalker/Ascendant: gets speed, might, penetration, aoe sizes AND damn long durations on both buffs and debuffs. And I hate my spells expiring. Stuff like Mental Binding is A LOT more useful if it lasts 15 seconds. Edited September 26, 2018 by Haplok
MaxQuest
Quite a selection of interesting items) - Contender's Armor - is awesome)) With the nerf of +action speed potions and alchemy in general, one can focus purely on athletics instead. - Keeper of the Flame - is awesome as well. It's auras are passive, and should be stacking with everything. Also if Magran's Wrath can crit.. it might have a synergy with chance to prone from Gatecrashers. And it wouldn't hurt to check if Magran's Wrath can trigger Nimbus of Death (from Heart-Chime Amulet) which gives a 10% chance to instantly destroy a Kith or Beast with less than 100 Health on hit. - Survivor's Tusks helm - already am seeing using it on my herald. - The Best Defense shield - doesn't seem to deal enough damage, but is potentially great on a melee spell damage dealer, if kills with spells trigger those effects. P.S. But there are also items that appear to be so-so. For example Crucible Token. The effects are nice, but last only 20s, and you have to spend 6s (cast) + 2s (recovery) to benefit from them. Do you see any scenario where this Token is worth it? For real? OMG. Where's the catch? The catch perhaps is that this is a situational item) The DoT is nice, but we assume that cipher has high current focus and can relatively easily crit his target. An ascendant in such conditions could spam: Disintegration or Amplified Wave. Also, majority of enemies that are easy to crit, have usually low hp, and the Spider's Patience DoT duration would be partially wasted on them, because they would die fast anyway. The rapier is great though vs high-HP/high-AR enemies with low deflection through. Guardian of Ukaizo, and to a less extent Neriscyrlas. Haplok
Hmm, good points. But the effect should be quite comparable in power with Disintegration... and I can imagine quite a few scenarios where it's easier to land a crit against Deflection then a hit against Fortitude. Also the attack speed is significantly faster then cast + recovery... and the rapier even gets an Accuracy bonus. It's potentially even better for the other Cipher subclasses, as Disintegration is expensive for them, but swinging the rapier costs nothing (apart from lost opportunities). Well, paradoxically maybe not great for a Soulblade as he likes to spend all of his Focus. Still, a new playstyle might be possible, where he temporarily holds to it and starts dumping SAs after he affected his enemies with DoTs. We actually wanted the Soulblade's playstyle to become more interesting. Perhaps this is it. Edited September 27, 2018 by Haplok

Metaturtle
So I was experimenting with Keeper of the Flame to figure out the religion scaling of the fire aoe and it looks to be about +25% per point, which is alright considering the base damage of the AoE is 2dmg. It gets affected by whatever affects weapon damage (passives, etc.) and it also hits EVERYTHING in what I estimate is a 2.5m radius around the target. You certainly don't want to be hitting stuff with it nearby friendly NPCs. Sadly the secondary aoe doesn't give cipher focus and doesn't receive direct damage critical bonuses, which I believe is from the way it applies the damage like a 0s dot. It is also considered range and will benefit from ranged pasives/equipment, but it won't work with Ranger's driving flight. An interesting note is that since the damage hurts you as well, a monk subclass other than shattered pillar can generate wounds this way by being close to the target it hits. On my Helwalker shadowdancer it was doing something around 20-30 dmg per hit on engaged enemies before armor mitigations.
