  1. Reduced threshold for gaining wounds, higher focus gain per point of damage and slight increase in recitation rate? Bit of a messy solution but should have the equivalent outcome of increasing resources by a given percentage.
  2. It's worse than that. An appropriately built Orlan can start the game with 20 Resolve. Then with an Inspiration they can hit 25, so 45%. That's before any bonuses to Resolve from equipment or non-Inspiration buffs (what does Crowns of the Faithful do with Resolve currently?). By the way, what exactly does the negative chance from going below 10 Resolve mean? Would it mean an X% chance to have the power level of your ability reduced?
  3. Honestly the main thing this discussion has done is reinforced my preference for classless systems. The baggage of class titles, particularly for classes like Priests which are also vocations, hurts roleplaying. Anyway I think I'll excuse myself from this discussion now. I don't think anything is going to be achieved by it at this point.
  4. So what is Xoti's character then? I'd she a priest or isn't she? Because I can go either way on a whim. Perhaps her character is defined not by her class, but by her dialogue and, well, her character.
  5. Your argument was that we can't customise people in real life so why should we be able to customize the people we meet in game. You then said a certain amount of customisation was enough. The former doesn't support the latter, regardless of whether you're a designer or not. Either there should be no customisation (like in real life) or there's room for debate as to where the line should be drawn. I don't see any reason why the second class in a companion's multiclass combination shouldn't be free, you disagree, but there's nothing inherently correct about your position from a design perspective.
  6. Gromnir's point is a good one. The way I've interpreted priests in Pillars is not (necessarily) as a formal clergy but rather any character whose faith becomes the channel for their power. In this case I wouldn't envisage Eder going through an initiation in a formal church but rather that his faith is so strengthened that his prayers start to have effects. If, however, the devs don't see it this way then I can understand why they'd to preclude the option. Doesn't explain why they'd disallow, say, subclasses though. In any case I'll mod my game if I want to (both for priesthood and subclasses). Not a big deal really, though people's objection to other people's wants is plain bizarre to me.
  7. So it's okay to choose which of three different class combinations a companion has, what abilities they learn at level up, and what weapons and armour they use, but going beyond that crosses some invisible line of character autonomy?
  8. No, you sound like people who don't want other people to interpret the lore differently to yourselves. And look who's saying that. Erm.... what? I am more than happy for you to not multiclass Eder as a Priest. I'd just like the option. That's the great thing about options: you can choose not to pick them. Hah! That's a children's TV show here in the UK. Blame my nephew.
  9. No, you sound like people who don't want other people to interpret the lore differently to yourselves.
  10. The name precludes priests how exactly? Because two priests can't have completely different takes on their religion? Particularly not when they're from different parts of the world and one follows a different aspect of their god to the other (Gaun). Over it? I merely gave my opinion that I want to multiclass my Eder as a Priest of Eothas and then I'm told that I'm wrong to want that so I explain why I disagree. The fact that he probably won't be able to in the base game doesn't bother me particularly since I'm confident I'll be able to mod it to allow him. Doesn't mean I have to think the choice Obsidian have made is a good one.
  11. Doesn't Dexterity already reduce recovery? It did in Pillars at least. Not saying this is a bad suggestion, I quite like it, but it might involve modifying Dexterity.
  12. No Priest in Eora gets their powers from their god (if they did, Durance would be a bit of a problem given his god literally can't see him anymore). They get them from their own belief. Eder's belief in Eothas strengthens in the Night Garden ending so him becoming a Priest of Eothas is hardly a stretch.
  13. Nor is there any implication that the Night Market specifically excluded priests. His faith grew stronger after the events of Pillars (assuming you got that ending) and I feel that him multiclassing as a Priest of Eothas fits him well. You disagree. The great thing about a more flexible system is we both get what we want. We already know Eder's going to have a lot of opinions about Eothas in dialogue, apparently disagreeing with Xoti about things. What more writing is needed? Priest in Pillars doesn't only mean person who runs a church and ministers a congregation. To quote: Does that really sound so impossible for Night Garden Eder?
  14. In one of Eder's endings he joins an underground organisation of Eothasians and quickly rises within its ranks. Forgive me for feeling that being able to multiclass Eder as a Priest of Eothas fitted his lore well in this case. It has nothing to do with wanting a team with complete freedom to choose any multiclass combination possible. Indeed in every other case I am happy with the options put forward by Obsidian. For you maybe, but quite clearly not for everyone. I find much more enjoyment in having complete mechanical freedom and imposing my own, lore based, restrictions. I had the freedom to give Durance's staff to another character in Pillars, and doing so is a pretty solid choice in the early game, but I never did because from a lore perspective he wouldn't let anyone else use it. I don't think my experience would have be enriched had this been restriction been mechanical. Meanwhile other players did give the staff to other characters and enjoyed their experience nonetheless. I can agree with this sentiment however.
  15. Only if you're set on having companion multiclassing handled through dialogue trees. I can't see why this should be however. What's wrong with having the same character creation screen pop-up upon hiring a companion for the first time?
  16. You'll have to rest at least once to have the dream about the hanging Dwarf Animancer in Gilded Vale. You'd also need to rest to start the White March part II, though that's not required to finish the game. There might be other required rests that I'm not remembering.
  17. Yes but they are wrong and we are right More seriously, if Josh genuinely believes summoned weapons are so powerful then I don't know why they'd disagree with us.
  18. It almost feels like Obsidian are a little scared of using their Power Level system too much, with passives/abilities not scaling off it at all, or scaling in a mostly meaningless way. An obvious example is summoned weapons, whose actual damage and accuracy scale with character level rather than power level meaning a Fighter/Wizard summons just as powerful a Citzal's Spirit Lance as a single class Nature Godlike Conjurer under the effect of Wellspring of Life. To my mind at least this doesn't make sense either from a lore perspective (surely the specialist should be able to summon the better weapon) or from a balance perspective (the single class conjurer doesn't get access to the fighter's various abilities and passives that improve melee performance).
  19. I'm disappointed that I can't multiclass Eder as a Priest of Eothas. It fits him so well. I'll have to see if I can figure out how to mod it so I can. I find that hard to believe as well. It's all there for the main character but somehow breaks down for the companions? I suspect it's more a case of not wanting to overwhelm players and/or it being hard to balance the game around completely free multiclassing.
  20. Agreed. I think removing on-hit and on-crit effects from Carnage, whilst a bit of a shame from the point of view of build variety, was the right choice (particularly with all the interactions added with multiclassing). It seems odd that Obsidian didn't do the same with the Spirit Lance and the Minor Blights (hopefully they'll change it).
  21. Not a fan. I don't like the random element of it. If you want Resolve to have something to do with Empower I'd prefer it to give a bonus/penalty to the number of Empower's you get per rest or a bonus/penalty to the power of Empowers. I prefer the latter of these two for the simple reason that I don't like break points in Attributes and I doubt Obsidian would make Resolve give you ±1 Empower per point of Resolve as that would seem a lot. Of course I'm really not a fan of the new system anyway (particularly renaming Might Strength) so would favour some return to the old system. That said, I'd still like to see Resolve get something more as it was definitely (one of) the weakest Attribute(s) in Pillars. I still feel the Affliction duration reduction idea that was floated around here was a good one, although presumably Obsidian have reasons for not liking it.
  22. Quite possibly, though not for that reason of course since it's perfectly sane.
  23. It does. It also means a Paladin/Berserker who takes the appropriate talent gains immunity to his confusion, which is nice.
