  4. I ask if its the same ones because they've been the target of dis/mis/information campaigns before, iirc.
  5. Arent these the Ukraine biolabs that the US put monet towards for research or containment of Soviet era biostuff?
  6. Mmmm, gravy, cheese curds and freedom fries....I think I see why its France wanting in on this action. 😄😄😄
  7. Yeah I look the names up. I can't remember the name of 90% of the people I meet in real life, though. 😄 Its a lot easier to pull out a VHS and stomp it than a hard-drive (at least for me). 😄😄
  8. Lol, @Bartimaeus, I saw a little of Evangelion when it came out and knew it wasn't for me. There's still a modicum of curiosity that crops up about it from time-to-time, but I usually lie down until it passes. 😄 I wonder how you would have reacted if I hadn't spoiled you re: Anyhow, my friends loved it. But that bit just ruined the film for, me, personally. I had forgotten about Manna's hate-face though. 😄
  9. TNG - "Thine Own Self" Okay, not the worst story, but why would Starfleet allow an away mission on a planet that would be covered by the prime directive that wasn't disguised? Just because you think there isn't going to be contact doesn't mean there won't be. And what sense does it make to send a solo away mission anyhow? 🤔 This season must be the 'Gothic horror' season. Haunted house earlier in the season and now Frankenstein's Monster! 😄
  10. When rewatching Brisco County, just remember
  11. You may catch something I missed, and hasn't been articulated on the few English sites I skimmed through. Japan seemed to love it more than the English reviewers I looked at, so maybe there's a cultural piece or historical resonance that I just didn't get.
  12. Well its possible I missed something, but I've yet to hear anyone satisfactorily explain that bit or why it needed to be in the film. Even checking a few sites, none of them seemed to be able to justify that bit within the narrative that I saw.
  13. Well my friends loved it. It has really, really good animation but IMO it has a fairly dim view of humanity, to be honest. No plot spoilers in the next spoiler box, but regarding the film tonally and if you want to avoid that I've put it in tags - All that said, plot element spoiler ahoy (SPOILER ALERT FOR NEXT BOX)... But who knows, a lot of people liked it and found it meaningful, I guess.
  14. Back in 1993, when Wicked City was released by Streamline to US theaters, it was considered pretty groundbreaking. I do know there were at the time some edited versions that existed back in the day (a separate UK edited dub known in some regions as "Monster City") as the content was a little out there for the times. That said, skimming online it seems like its reputation has only went down over the years. I guess once you see more and better anime movies, the novelty of this one wears off. I personally never saw it, but the people who recommended it to me also recommended Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise, for which I'd still not quite forgiven them.

  16. 31 of 46 Presidents were taller than the current average height in the US for men; 19 of 46 were 6 foot or taller. Not sure you can really make a conclusion about height and presidents other than it seems the voting public like taller men.

  19. Don't get me wrong, I understand your argument (ie that people have different scope to their job that may not be understood by colleagues who have the same basic job title or job description). I'd argue that is a problem in not having clarity in job titles and descriptions, more so than a problem whose only cure is to make talking about ones salary a firing offence. I always figured you for more of a Scrooge McDuck in his money vault type! 😄
  20. To be fair, I work for the government (since I work at a state funded school), so my salary (as well as my supervisors and subordinates) is all a matter of public record. But, the opposite can also be true - if the guy earning 7.5k is the boss' friend and never does near the amount of work as the other employees with the same job title, not allowing them to discuss it seems to be a way to hide the fact that the boss' friend is being unfairly compensated. That's why I find mandating a lack of transparency to be a worrying sign - because it is open to abuse.
