  1. Cūthe habban béonde wiersa - hit cūthe habben ealdgewyrht geondbrædan in Eald Englisc With appologies to those who actually speak and read Old English, unlike myself. Seriously though, the PC is a traveler to a foreign land - it'd seem strange to me if everything in that foreign land was completely familiar. I recall traveling to the UK and meeting a Scottish man whose accent was so strong he might have been talking a foreign language despite it being English. Or traveling to Wales where a lot of the place names WERE in a foreign language. Even though, nominally, the UK speaks the English I've been trained in, there was a history there that wasn't all from the Angles.
  2. Even more can be seen here: https://storify.com/Astojap/wehdon-twitter-hate
  3. I don't know. You tell me. I'm not doing any research. No. I'll spend more effort to get you to tell me about this than it would take to just look it up. This, I swear. Now tell me about what people were angry about in witcher 1! There were cards of nekkid women you could collect by sexxoring the women in game, as I understand it.1 It was changed to pictures of scantily clad women you could collect by sexxoring them in the US version 1At least this is the only controversy I recall...
  4. Wait, wait, wait... ...so people think that Black Widow referred to herself as a monster because she couldn't have children and NOT because of the flashbacks we were shown indicating she'd been trained since childhood to kill people, including having to shoot a person execution style as a pre-teen in her training - a past that she's already implied had indelibly ruined her being able to redress by being a "good guy" in the first Avengers film and was used to attempt to blackmail her from releasing SHIELD files to the public in order to keep her from exposing Hydra in CA: Winter Soldier? Seriously?
  5. I haven't seen them all and since there may be spoilers, I'll say from what I've read, they reside at:
  6. Any source for that? Seems like its currently linked to a tweet that wasn't received well criticising Jurassic World. http://www.themarysue.com/joss-whedon-deleted-twitter-account/ Jurassic World bit: http://www.themarysue.com/feminism-aint-easy-joss-whedon/
  7. It was named by Gail Simone in reference to Kyle Raynor's(Green Lantern) girlfriend being killed and left in the refridgerator for him to find. She felt female supporting characters were misproportionately killed off violently to give male characters motivation to fight the villain as opposed to male characters. This was a good point as Uncle Ben and Jason Todd are the only examples of this I can think of. It has been adopted by SJWs however to mean any time a female character is killed. To be honest, it was a trend at the time. There were a lot of characters killed in gruesome ways in the 90s as part of the grim and gritty trend. That the majority of them were women was notable, but there were instances of men being killed as well (the "Eclipso" bloodbath, for example, or the destruction of the JSA that allowed DC to bring forth a new round of mantle-wearers). But it was something that had always been in comics: Mom and Dad - Batman Katana's Husband - Katana Dan "Blue Beetle" Garrett - Ted "Blue Beetle" Kord1 Roy Lincoln's Dad - Roy "The Human Bomb" Lincoln Ted "Wildcat" Grant - Yolanda "Wildcat" Montez 2 Vernon Van Dyne - Janet "Wasp" Van Dyne Could probably think of more if I cared to. It goes back to the roots of the superhero comic (Doc Savage's first adventure is finding out why his father died; Richard Benson, the Avenger's first adventure is about avenging the death of his wife and daughter to criminals, etc.) and possibly the way they're so often inspired by mythology (where a lot of people died propelling stories) 1DC origin only 2Technically Grant didn't die but had his back broken, so you could argue it not being quite the same thing
  8. And the Outsiders. Depending on what continuity you're talking about.
  9. I remember back when I was a mod on BIS (yeah its one of THESE stories again) it was great to have my mod account and my poster account. There was never any confusion about whether I was posting as a mod or as my usual happy casual poster type. So I can understand having a stealth mode as a developer, in general, one so you can be you and one where you can be Mr./Ms. Developer-with-important-developery-type-things-to-say.
  10. He sets style standards, and is followed by paparazzi and appeared on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" making where he vacations THE destination spot for the next year?
  11. ^You are correct, I meant "V letter" not "V sound". Stupidity on my part.
  12. Given that I don't see any goji beans, I figured it was a goji bean paste to make it a goji bowl. EDIT: Or maybe the brown stuff is chocolate covered goji beans...?
  13. *Backhand slap* Don't even joke about something like that! *Grabs archangel's lapels and pulls him face to face* I came here to escape them and their BSN! I won't go back I tells ya, and I won't let them turn this into another BSN! I'll blow us all up I will! I swear it! *Suddenly the ground starts to rumble, and off in the distance can be heard chanting. You can make out some of it as "Tali! Tali! Tali!" from the Talimancer contingent, but you can hear other chants too, equally blood curdling chants* Oh god, it's too late, they heard you! *Pulls out detonator* I had prayed this day would never come... *Someone suddenly bursts in* Bioware Fan: "Can I romance Durance????!!!!!" *Flintlock Jazz pushes the button* Narrator: "In one of the countless billions of galaxies in the universe, lies a medium-sized star, and one of its satellites, a green and insignificant planet, is now dead." "They will dissect you! And they will kill you! In that order!" Hmmm, I have a weird desire to watch "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" now.
  14. Kleb had a certain kick to her, I'll give you that...
  15. Methinks Gromnir just wanted to post pictures of Honey Rider and Jinx...
  16. It was a joke. Those were people defying other people, what did the bay defy to become "Defiance Bay". Its not funny when you explain it.1 1Cue claims of "it wasn't funny before you explained it either".
  17. The internet tells me he was born in New York, grew up in New York and Connecticut. It was when he was injured playing football in Iowa that he switched to decathalon.
  18. You mean other than the natural question "Who or what was the bay defying?"
  19. Gilded Vale makes sense to me. Gilded means "covered in a thin layer of gold; wealthy or privledged". Vale is another term for valley, so its very close to saying "Golden Valley". Sounds like the kinda name you'd give a place if you were trying to attract wealthy settlers. That said, every time I see "Bîaŵac" I read it as "bivouac"...
  20. Well folkloric vampires were often depicted as bloated corpses, essentially a form of revenant; usually an evil person bound to their corpse by their evil deeds and spirit.
  21. I think Vampire in Welsh is Fampir. No V sound in the celtic based languages and the "y" is probably used in the same way that vampyr is sometimes used to express the specific "i" sound. All this discussion reminds me a bit about complaints about Planescape's slang. To which I can only say: "PoE ain't so dark a cutter can't tumble to the cant. No need to go foaming."
  22. It probably is fair to point out that Ghoul is taken from ghūl the original arabic word for the creature. It isn't that much of a stretch to see the "h" dropped to follow the naming conventions of the world. It also should be pointed out that place names often carry over use from other languages. The Chatahoochee River comes from the Muskogee name cato-hocce hvcc not from English and if you drive in Wales the sign on the road for the town ahead could say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch not "Parish Church of St. Mary in the Hollow of the White Hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the parish church of St. Tysilio with a red cave". So calling place names by the Glanfathan names would be very likely, I'd think.
  23. Maybe - and I know this is a really shocking idea - no one is actually butthurt, but instead just expressing their personal opinions as best they can over their respective feelings towards playing PoE and how that relates to other RPGs they've played in the past. Hahahah...who am I kidding, right?
  24. This sounds like a trick question, used to lure our leader out of hiding. Run! Run! That said, in PoE, the main character always speaks regardless of who actually approaches the target. Wished it'd always be the PC approaching on a speak click to make that clearer, but not really a big deal.
