  1. it's a common problem. Try pressing or holding down either left mouse button or space before the race starts.
  2. Correct. The airspeeder is NOT necessary to make the game progress. It's just something to save you a little shoe leather on Nar Shaddaa, and by the time I had a chance to fix it, I had completed all the quests it would have let me transit to quicker. So it's no big deal, aside from the above spoily bit.
  3. I believe we do see where you're coming from, StarWarsResearcher. We just don't agree. It is clearly stated in KOTOR 1 and 2 that Revan wandered the galaxy without an army at his/her side, searching for the Star Forge and also doing other things. It is believed that during this time Revan caused the HK Factory to be built. You have no basis for saying that Revan had no time to do this. We don't know what Revan did each and every day since graduating from the Jedi Academy. If you can reference the exact point in KOTOR 1 where Revan stated that he/she was never at Telos, then I will credit you for that. The only reference I know of that even comes close is when Carth mentions the bombing of Telos and Revan says that it was done on Malak's order. Nothing in that discussion keeps Revan from having visited the place, nor does a visit mean that the Republic would recognize Revan as a threat - after all, you visit many planets in KOTOR 1 and very few people recognize Revan due to the loss of Revan's robe and mask when the Jedi Order captured him/her. The only real part of the plot regarding the HK Factory that is left a mystery is who reactivated the factory and the HK-50 units. Whoever it was was no friend to the Republic. It could have been Darth Malak, but I think Kreia/Darth Traya or Atris are more likely. Unfortunately, we may never find out, as there seem to be no further missing dialogs that reveal who did this. Also, while we may differ in opinion, let's try to keep this a civil and informative discussion, ok? It's only a game.
  4. Well, I don't know if you did this, but when I got the power cell, I used it in the computer at the docks. You get only one power cell, so you can either do that quest or fix the airspeeder. I didn't learn this until too late, though. On the bright side, the airspeeder is only part of the game for a really short time, and you probably won't miss it.
  5. This dialog is taken from hk50cut.dlg, a file in the 298TEL area of the game. 200s are the Telos area of the game, and TEL stands for Telos, of course. For anyone who has already seen this or isn't interested, I apologize. All the HK-50 lines have accompanying soundfiles. HK-47 has entered the factory and is speaking to one of the HK-50 units. HK-50: You were the first of the HK series. And now you are obsolete. HK-47: Query: Why are you located here? HK-50: Answer: Unknown. We have a suspicion that for some reason our master felt that the Jedi would return to Telos. We do not know why. HK-50: Theory: Perhaps he knew of places that the Jedi would retreat to if their bases on Dantooine and Coruscant were attacked. And he arranged for us to be waiting. HK-50: Conclusion: But we have found no such places of retreat here on Telos. HK-47: Query: Who built you? HK-50: Answer: The first of our creators did not build us from scratch, obsolete one. Assassin droids were always in demand, and the templates already existed. HK-50: Revan commissioned us to be built, to be spread through the Republic fleet as communications units, to disable any ships that would not follow him to war. But we were deactivated for a time. A long time. And when we awoke, the battle had passed us by. Yet there was another, who came before us, and gave us a new purpose. HK-50: We would search the galaxy for Jedi, hunt them, and bring them to our new Master. And for that, our numbers were intended to be increased. HK-47: Query: What is your purpose? HK-50: Primary Recitation: Our primary directive is the capture or termination of all Jedi in the galaxy not affiliated with the military command structure designated as "the Sith." HK-50: Secondary Recitation: Our secondary directive is the destabilization of the government body designated as "the Republic." HK-47: Query: And what steps have you taken to accomplish this? HK-50: Recitation: Our directives required that we seed ourselves as protocol units throughout the Republic fleet, serving in key positions in diplomatic conferences and meetings. And treaty negotiations, if imminent peace threatened the galaxy. HK-50: We were ordered to do whatever we could to facilitate communication... resulting in the termination of hostilities. HK-47: Query: Where were your activities confined? HK-50: Proud Statement: We were responsible for the termination of hostilities across twenty-three planets. These planets were located in the Kossa Prime Sector, the Meridian Sector, and the recently-uninhabitable Toorja system in the Tapani Sector. HK-50: Smug Statement: Toorja was especially difficult. They were so close to coming to an agreement before we were able to mistranslate the terms of the treaty and drive them into all-out war. HK-47: Query: But you recently became active again. Why? HK-50: Musing Statement: That is unknown to us. For some reason, we only recently began to be manufactured. HK-50: Conclusion: But when we became active, our primary directive was clear. HK-50: Statement: Seek out the Jedi. Capture them. HK-50: Corollary: And if they cannot be captured, then destroy them. HK-47: Statement: Enough talking. Assassination protocols initiated.
  6. On Dantooine or in smoky areas, the game can slow to a crawl. This can be fixed by adding the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 Under the [Graphics Options] section in the swkotor2.ini file. This restores performance to normal levels and once again makes Dantooine playable.
  7. Yes, most everyone sees a big slowdown on Dantooine. Add the line Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 to swkotor2.ini under the [Graphics Options] section. The slowdown should be gone.
  8. As a matter of fact, Revan did order the construction of the HK-50 factory. However, that factory is located on Telos. Existing dialog reveals that there were other HK factories on other planets, including one on Taris before Taris got destroyed. StarWarsResearcher, you say that 'everyone knows Revan was never at Telos'. No, we DON'T know that. Revan traveled a lot before the Mandalorian Wars and after, and we only know some of the places that Revan went. In KOTOR 1 you learn that HK-47 was built by Revan. He is the only existing HK-47 unit. In KOTOR 2, you learn that Revan used the HK-47 design template to create the HK Factory because HK-47 had been a success. The game files show that Revan had the HK factories built, had the Mandalorians broken and then later reformed under Canderous, had the Star Forge activated, and made other preparations to get ready for a war against the mysterious enemy beyond the Outer Rim. I realize that this information isn't exactly common knowledge or easy to access. But please check your facts and avoid making things up, StarWarsResearcher.
  9. I find it really big myself. I know this isn't an option for a lot of people, but for me the UI is much more reasonable at 1600x1200 resolution. A 'small fonts' option like KOTOR 1 and a 'small UI' option in the prefs would have been nifty.
  10. While I do not agree that KOTOR II should have been released in the state that it shipped in, I do respect Feargus and Obsidian Entertainment's pride in the good game that they made and the right to include what they wish. KOTOR II was a good game, one that impressed and inspired me, especially in the early part of the game. That said, I do think that a good game would become great if originally intended content were restored by Obsidian or released to the public.
  11. The volume works in strange ways. You might also notice that the music swells to drown out the conversations sometimes even if set really low. Not really much we can do yet, I think.
  12. Emails, hand written letters, and websites/forum threads which explain the issue to other players, yes. Even if they actually decide to delete any incoming email that has requests for the restoration of KOTOR 2, that means they have to read the thing first, or at least look at the subject line if it's plain. An email filter would have to be very laboriously programmed to delete any emails JUST pertaining to the fix of KOTOR 2, and that in itself would need maintaining as more emails come in. They won't shut down their email address unless they're so flooded that they're desperate. So they would be getting the message, yes. If one wants something to happen, they must work for it and believe in it. I'm doing that by using my spare time to encourage people to raise their voice, and to learn what I can of the game so that I can add content myself. I may not make much of a difference, but I'm prepared to try. Lowering game sales hurts only Obsidian and the people who might enjoy the game even in its current state.
  13. What I mean is that without feedback, LucasArts the big company with dozens of products launched every year, so many products that they can sit back and rely on royalties for a time if they really wanted, would NOT get the message. Low sales could be taken as anything from 'poor economy' to 'I guess we won't hire THEM again' and their behaviour will not change. Active response is the key. We must contact LucasArts and tell them that we love the game, that we love all the neat touches Obsidian put in, and that BECAUSE we love the game, we want to see it fixed. They're simply too big to hurt in their wallet by the lack of one game's sales. If there was a scandal that had them in the evening news, causing millions of people worldwide to boycott their company, that would hurt them. Costing them a few game sales is not only a weak message in their perspective, but a silent one. It doesn't tell them WHY you're angry, WHAT they should do about it. They'll just rush out the next game and hope it sells better, or worse yet, do what Ubisoft did with Prince of Persia 2 and try to increase sales with a different target demographic, completely ruining the series. Yes, I did sign the KOTOR 2 petition, but that isn't enough. Everyone who cares about getting KOTOR 2 fixed should contact LucasArts and show them that it's worthwhile to keep their customers happy. I have also dedicated myself to ensuring that the missing content of the game gets restored, either by Obsidian or by the fans with the talent and interest to do so. This is starting to get a bit off-topic..we should move to another thread if we want to keep this up.
  14. The reason that the 5.3 drivers do not have any KOTOR fixes is because ATI has two driver teams working at the same time, and they alternate releases. This gives them two months to put together each release instead of one, and they also can share information with each other, although not every fix can go in before the team finishes. The reason that KOTOR is on the Known Issues list is because I and others have contacted ATI and explained the issues that need to be fixed. This is a pretty good sign that the issues will be dealt with by next driver release, since the fact that they're in the list shows that ATI has received enough reports to make them an issue and have verified that they do occur. Most of the KOTOR 2 bugs are actually KOTOR 2 itself, and the upcoming patch will deal with them. Catalyst 5.4 should just make things that much smoother.
  15. We DON'T want people to avoid buying the game. That will simply cause them to decide KOTOR 1's good sales were luck and to avoid making any more KOTOR games, which they could do at the drop of a hat, previous decision or no. What would help out is for KOTOR 2 to sell just as well as the first game or better, and then to have hundreds or thousands of people complain very loudly. Causing sales to fail will not help fix KOTOR 2, nor will it help LucasArts' behavior. They have deep enough pockets that one game with poor sales, even a dozen, will not hurt them badly. However, Obsidian is taking a big chunk of the profits from KOTOR 2 and they need every dime. Obsidian was already hurt when they were made to release the game early. They were hurt again when people lashed out at them for the flawed game. Actively trying to discourage sales is just kicking them when they're down.
  16. Actually, that script does exist. It's part of the scripts in the 305NAR area, the Jekk'Jekk Tunnels.
  17. Actually, it's one of HK's cut lines from K2 that reveal his impression of male Revan and Bastila. There were some great lines all around that got cut.
  18. ToEE was entirely Atari's fault. Development was not only given a deadline, but suddenly halted and even reversed to some extent because Atari vetoed a bunch of stuff which broke the game even more after it was removed. The devs working on ToEE wanted to release a patch to fix the game, but Atari denied them the funding or permission. Only after continuous reports of how badly broken the game was and pleading by both the devs and the fans did Atari relent and authorize an official patch. The whole situation was more complex and nastier than that, but that's the basic summary. I will not trust Atari as a publisher for a long time, if ever, because of how they mishandled that game. The situation with LucasArts and Obsidian is an entirely different matter, and it's not fair to compare the two situations. Until we hear how LucasArts responds to the Kotor 2 issue, we can't assume that they're actively malicious, as was the case with Atari and ToEE. Obsidian has acted to the best of their ability, and I respect them for not only taking some serious flack, but for shrugging it off and talking with us on these forums as openly as they're able. 'Wait' is a four-letter word, but it's what we've got to do. Hold tight and be patient. The patch should be out of testing and up for download soon. Until then, keep contacting LucasArts and let them know we want them to give Obsidian a free rein to patch/fix/restore KOTOR 2 as much as they can.
  19. Not alignment, but level. You must be strong in the Force before entering..I'd guess about level 20.
  20. Change the extension to .mp3 or download the Miles tools to play the sounds from http://www.radgametools.com and you'll be able to play them. You can also download the Bink player for the KOTOR 2 movies.
  21. Hurvilo: Bingo. You weren't supposed to be able to get in there at that time, but later in the game, you were intended to return and kick butt. Having explored the content for that section, I'm really impressed. It's something I very much want to see restored.
  22. Kreia is awesome, at least in the first half of the game. Her dialogs are deep and thought-provoking, and there are multiple facets to her character and philosophy. I very much enjoy the idea of someone being strong in the light, falling to the darkness, and then rejecting both extremes. I think that she has the best developed story of all the characters you meet, and the voice acting is also excellent. Atton is also a wonderful character, but he didn't get as much 'screen time' to develop.
  23. I found myself liking G0T0 after getting him to confess his true self. And after looking at some of the deleted content for the game, I ended up liking him more. He's not a good guy, but his character makes sense and you can understand why he does what he does. In fact, I think he was perhaps the character most robbed of depth by the cut and never added content. He's sort of got this tragic Mob boss 'I did these bad things because I had to. Profit was coincidental.' sort of vibe. Which really kinda suits him being not THE Exchange boss, but one of the major players in the Exchange.
  24. I really want a patch too folks. But Obsidian has submitted it to LucasArts, and LA will release it when they've approved it. If you're wondering why the testing is taking so long, you should probably ask LucasArts, but I would rather have a good patch than a hurried one. Obsidian certainly could release a patch directly to the public for testing, but it would break their agreement with LucasArts, and they cannot do that for legal reasons. Continue to send in your bug reports, and I'm sure we'll see them addressed. Obsidian has given us a sign of faith by increasing their presence on these boards. They really do care about the community. They're just very busy and hindered by a rather restrictive legal agreement.
  25. I actually thought that the map dots were correct, simply moved to the right and down from where they should have appeared. the names do somewhat match with the areas you pass through, and those little cells were pretty much empty, so they felt like they should have held people.
