  1. Well, I'm certain that one will be coming out. I would like to do such a mod myself as part of my efforts to expand the depth of the game. Of first importance would be to restore the original content and things we have recorded lines for. But if people are willing to put up with voiceless dialog, a lot could be added.
  2. Sorry, menace621.. things have been a little busy here. I haven't come across a driver for your onboard sound yet, but I did see a problem with your posted config that may or may not be causing problems with the game for you. I noticed that you are running the original Windows XP OpenGL driver. Go to http://www.drivercleaner.net and download Driver Cleaner, then install it. Then download the latest video drivers from http://www.ati.com but don't install them yet. Go to your Start menu, then click Settings, then click Control Panel. Open Add/Remove Programs and uninstall your current video drivers if they show up. If not, don't worry. Reboot your computer. Hit F8 while your computer starts, and you should get a menu of choices. Pick 'Safe Mode' and your computer will start up. Run Driver Cleaner and clean out all ATI drivers. Make sure to clean SP1.CAB and SP2.CAB with Cab Cleaner, which is a part of Driver Cleaner. Delete any files you know belong to ATI drivers besides the new ones you downloaded. Reboot into normal Windows and install the video drivers you downloaded earlier. You should have a much faster and more stable computer. Again, sorry for the huge delay.
  3. I love your suggestions, tu2thepoo. Only one problem. As per the Star Wars D20 RPG, all Miraluka (Visas' race) are born without eyes. Force Sight is their ONLY sight, and always was. This is why what Nihilus did to her was so devastating. I too believe that while Obsidian wanted the impact of Visas' story to come from the revelations of her story unfolding rather than simply showing a cinema scene, I think that the destruction of Katarr and Malachor would have made powerful scenes if executed properly. Scenes that would have added to the story rather than taken away. Nihilus, like Darth Maul, deserved more story, more grandeur. But I do believe that in the case of Darth Nihilus, that story was originally intended to be there.
  4. There simply hasn't been enough time to complete KOTOR 3 unless they've been working on it all along since work began on KOTOR 2. And we've seen zero indications of that. I could believe a KOTOR 3 scheduled to match with the rumored 2007 release of all six Star Wars movies in High Definition DVD, but never for Episode III.
  5. Has anyone considered the simple explanation? The Exile helped Mandalore rebuild his clans somewhat. Thus, attacking the Ravager is a repayment of a debt of honor. And no matter whether they dislike the Sith or not, boarding and taking out the Ravager was a challenge, a warrior's test. Canderous spoke of how the Mandalorians lived for battle such as that. Occam's Razor. The simplest and most likely explanation is usually correct.
  6. I wasn't particularly impressed with the romance options myself, but I think that might be because the romance options are one of the last priorities for development and KOTOR 2 wasn't completely finished. Female PC: The lines from Atton that were left in the game were nice at first, but as the game progressed, he just got defensive about the Disciple, whom the game picked as my interest despite me actively avoiding the Disciple. For the most part, I couldn't stand the Disciple, although he might be more tolerable if you're playing darkside and corrupt him a bit..I played a LS female PC. The cut dialog with Atton at the ending was really touching, and I miss it. I've heard rumors that Visas is a romance option for female PCs, but I never got anything that hinted so. She worships the PC because she has a very submissive personality and you're fairly radiating strength. And later, she respects you for what you've done. But I got no hints that she was inclined to kiss the PC, although I think I'd have preferred her over Atton as-is. If the cut dialog for Atton were restored, yay Atton. Male PC: You've got Visas and the Handmaiden bickering with each other and Mira wisely wanting to stay out of the whole mess. Yay. I don't know how I feel about this one. It's a bit more balanced, but the male romances also feel unfinished. Romances are a nice 'polish' to the game, something that isn't a central part of it but adds something extra. As someone at Bioware once said, perhaps David Gaider himself, 'We could only focus more on the romances if we made them the central focus of the game.' All the same, they give depth to the characters and if done right, really make you care. In KOTOR 1 I had moments where I disliked both Carth and Bastila, but in the end, the feelings displayed in-game felt real, and they moved me. KOTOR 2 left me wondering about how things could have been.
  7. One needn't get alternate drivers in order to use Temporal AA. It's available in recent Catalyst drivers by default. It does only work on recent cards, however. (9x00 and up) That said, I've heard people post about how good the DNA drivers are. And if they work for you, good.
  8. If you are a US customer and are using Windows XP, Dell's download page for the Dimension 4300 is here. Since different options can be installed on the 4300, you will still need to choose the right drivers to download. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...0&os=WW1&osl=EN If you can run swconfig.exe from your game directory and click 'Scan Hardware' then save the results, your swinfo.txt it creates would help us to be more precise.
  9. I can suggest two things first. 1.) Make sure you have the latest video and sound card drivers. Go download them if you must. 2.) Try disabling sound by running swconfig.exe and see if movies will play then. If neither of those fixes your problem, run swconfig.exe, click 'Test Hardware', then save the results and post here your swinfo.txt file.
  10. Their lack of effort in dealing with the public is underwhelming. Hmm. Not only poor PR but poor tech support as well.
  11. Obsidian is a new studio, and apparently from some of the posts made by devs that I have read, they had NO QA team on this game, instead leaving that job to LucasArts who dropped the ball. Having learned from this current mess, Obsidian has implemented their own in-house QA team for NWN 2. Yeah, Obsidian made a couple of mistakes. But the ones made by LucasArts are so glaring as to cast Obsidian's few mistakes amongst their brilliant design into insignifigance. If KOTOR 2 had had another year or even six months for completion, I guarantee you that it would have been just as good as the first game or perhaps better. Reading the scripted dialog that was left unused in the game files almost makes me cry for how good this could have been, but was prevented from being.
  12. If you are not certain if you actually have the Force Sight power, switch to Visas once she's in your party and hit the capslock key. You should be able to see a ghostly first-person view, with party members showing up in shades of red and blue. I as of yet do not know the hardware/software requirements to get the power to display properly, but I have a feeling it's related to Frame Buffer Effects.
  13. I do encourage emailing LucasArts, but please do so politely and coherently. We want them to realize the magnitude of the disappointment they've caused to intelligent, well-paying customers, not angry children. If we treat them with respect, there is a greater chance that we will receive treatment in kind.
  14. Have you tried completely uninstalling your CD burning program? The crash bug is a tricky one and no one's found a surefire fix yet.
  15. Actually, I believe swconfig tests for your software OpenGL support, not the hardware level. Note that it says '1.3.4707 WinXP Release'. I'm pretty certain that means you did not successfully update your video driver, and it is still using the ancient, terrible OpenGL that shipped with Windows XP. Go to http://www.drivercleaner.net and download/install Driver Cleaner. Uninstall your current video driver. Delete the C:\ATI directory. Reboot into Windows Safe mode by hitting F8 while booting and pick 'Safe Mode' from the menu that appears. Then run Driver Cleaner to remove all traces of your old video driver. Also use the Cab Cleaner that is part of Driver Cleaner to clean the old ATI driver out of the Windows .CAB files. Go to C:\Windows\System32 and delete any DLL files you see starting with the letters ATI. If you're comfortable with it, open regedit and delete the keys with the name 'ATI Technologies'. Reboot into normal Windows and install the Omega drivers. You should then have a proper driver install, and I bet you that swconfig will produce a different test result in your swinfo.txt.
  16. I've updated my guide with a page showing the ATI 'lightsaber glow' issue with recent display drivers. You can follow my link below to the main guide, or go directly to the glow effects page here: http://magestrix.com/games/Framebuffer.html
  17. Several others have had this problem. They've had to reinstall the game, but I am curious to ask what happens if you disable the hardware mouse by running swconfig.exe.
  18. What video drivers are you running? Can you post your swinfo.txt?
  19. I've seen no visual differences either way. I've been very curious what the option does as well, but the fact that it affects performance without having a visible effect means that it's probably an optimized way of drawing the screen. And trying a broken method is slower than not trying at all.
  20. Positioning of the sticks isn't absolutely vital, no. But if you have 3-4 slots, you should try to make sure they're 'balanced'. For example, my current board has three slots, A1, B1, and B2. If I had two sticks of memory, they'd go into A1 and B1. Your motherboard manual should give details on this. And yes, definitely replace that stick of memory if you can.
  21. I fully agree. However, that won't happen. The publisher in a publisher-developer deal has authority over release date, quality assurance, customer support, and all kinds of stuff. The developer is pretty much left to 'Design a game that will sell good by this date and we'll cut you in for some of the money'. It's why Bioware didn't do KOTOR 2 themselves..they were sick of having to bow to the publisher or the owner of the copyright on the stuff they were putting into the game and decided to make games of their own, games that they owned the copyright to and would publish themselves. It's a big step for Bioware, and because it took all their time. money, and effort, they agreed to let Obsidian do KOTOR 2. I would have liked a Bioware-done KOTOR 2, but if it means they can stand tall and make games the way they want to without some guy in a suit looking over their shoulder, I heartily approve. As far as the problems with KOTOR 2...Contact LucasArts. Tell them POLITELY that you love KOTOR and want another game, but that they REALLY need to fix the game they put out in a broken state. As far as NWN2 goes...you're right to worry. Because the publisher for NWN is Atari. And Atari is FAR worse than LucasArts. I've got some blood-chilling stories about them.
  22. That depends on whether KOTOR/KOTOR 2/KOTOR 3 is a major reason for the card or just a nice perk. The nVidia would run the KOTOR series better. In most games, they'd be pretty equal. I think nVidia might have a bit more support for the 'replaceable laptop graphics' thing that Alienware is doing though.
  23. Well, tell us if the patch fixes this problem after it comes out. I'm curious. The closest thing I've had on this is on Dantooine where my computer got lagged down for a second or two because of background activity and a character's head disappeared. They were finishing their conversation and when it was over they stood there for a few seconds. First their head faded out, then a few seconds later, so did their body. It was like a weird Cheshire Cat thing.
  24. I don't know about the music, but when I extract textures, some of them have comments like 'xbox_downsample 256'. The textures are pretty good except that in some areas they seem unfinished (Peragus, NPCs on Iziz) and some seem like they would benefit from being a size or two larger. A few seem to not be entirely matched to the model they're on, leading to parts which stretch and look blocky. You can notice this on Darth Sion if you look close at his upper torso. I know that seems a bit off-topic, but it shows, to me at least, that the game got rushed to deadline and the artists had to make sacrifices. I also have to wonder whether the game had to be squeezed down for the XBox discs. How many did it come on for XBox? One? Two?
