  1. Make sure you have Soft Shadows disabled. They really kill performance with ATI cards. Other than that, you've addressed the two major issues that affect performance. Try reducing AA/Anisotropy perhaps. *shrug* In the best resolution for me, 1600x1200, I only get around 70 FPS tops with my X800 XT and I'd say 50-ish is more usual. I don't recall if I measured FPS in lower resolutions, but I think I was getting similar performance.
  2. Can you post the file? The proper file is swkotor2.ini and the Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 line should be under the [Graphics Options] section, not at the end. Also, atioglxx.dl_ is a compressed file. You must type the command expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll to get it to work.
  3. It took me a while to figure this one out too..I originally had it listed as a bug. Now that I've gotten used to the system, I like it a lot. Not only do the Behaviors (attack stances) follow this method, but so do the Force/Lightsaber Forms.
  4. I haven't seen any visual differences or any difference in stability. All it seems to do is make Dantooine playable. If someone has some technical knowledge of what Disable Vertex Buffer Objects does, I'd really like to know too.
  5. I've got a Radeon too, Jono. And I really recommend you hang onto the game until we see how good Obsidian's upcoming patch is. It'd be a shame to take the game back and find out a day or two later that most or all of the issues are resolved. I know it's not easy to deal with a game that promises so much and then has so many unpredictable bugs and problems. But Lucasarts is to blame here for rushing the game to holiday sales. I'm going to give Obsidian a chance to put things right.
  6. It really isn't that hard to add the DVBO line to your swkotor2.ini. And once done, the game is smooth on Dantooine. I do not know of any features or effects that are turned off by Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 and I haven't noticed any change in stability.
  7. If you're really that disappointed, this is very easy to mod.
  8. Done. And I've emailed Lucasarts my list of bugs and issues again in hopes that they'll all be addressed.
  9. Check your swkotor2.ini and make sure Disable Movies and Disable Intro Movies are set to 0. Other than that..make sure you have the latest video drivers, make sure you don't have any CD copy or CD backup programs installed, and make sure your sound card drivers are updated. If you post your computer's specs, we might be able to help better.
  10. I've posted my KOTOR 2 guide at http://magestrix.com/games/KOTOR2_Guide.html and you might find something there that helps.
  11. It fixed the PDF manual which was a bad file in the European release. Some say it also fixes spelling errors in the game, but I haven't gotten a clear report on that.
  12. I guess I have this problem too. I talked to the right person and got a response that led me to believe I'd learned the power, but it's not in my powers list and I can't use it. Shame..it's not a big thing, but it is one of the powers I was most excited about.
  13. Since you're looking for a good card at a low price, I suggest looking tor a last-generation performance card. A Geforce 4 Ti 4400/4600 or a Radeon 9800 Pro perhaps. Both of these will run KOTOR 1 brilliantly and should be fine for KOTOR 2. Or you could go for a modern low-end card: A Geforce 5200 (is there a 6x00 series low-end card yet?) or a Radeon 9200 (no AGP low-end Xx00 cards either.) I hate to say it, but I cannot recommend a card from any other company for gaming right now. 2D office work or 3D art professionals, sure. But for games it has to be nVidia or ATI.
  14. An excellent explanation. I was being a little hasty and knew I got a bit inaccurate. Thanks for clearing things up.
  15. Not so. I had it happen to a character with a green blade. Thanks for the feedback. I hope I can help a lot more people this way than by posting in rapidly buried threads.
  16. I disagree. They're working on the patch, and won't know it's done until Obsidian tests it and know it fixes the issues they say it does on a variety of hardware. Then they need to send it to Lucasarts so that Lucasarts can test the patch and approve it. If the patch is approved, then Lucasarts will release it. So you can se that there are a lot of variables involved that make knowing when it will be done difficult. I myself believe 'soon' means this week, certainly by the end of the month. After all..we don't want to give them a hard deadline for the patch. That's why the game is screwed up in the first place: Because Lucasarts wanted the game out for holiday sales, done or not.
  17. Well, I've finally gotten my KOTOR 2 Issues Guide cleaned up and updated for the web. It's located at http://magestrix.com/games/KOTOR2_Guide.html I will be updating the guide as I discover more issues and as I get reports of problems and corrections. I've also emailed Dan Simpson, and he will be including a version of my guide in his game guide on GameFAQs.com. I would like to know what folks think, and to hear whether I should include bugs that spoil the story, include them with a spoiler warning, or what. Thank you to everyone that helped make the game issues known.
  18. Go to ATI's old driver page and download the 4.11 drivers. Run the installer for the 4.11 drivers, but cancel it as soon as it extracts the files. Locate the dir with the atioglxx.dl_ file. Open a DOS prompt and navigate to that dir, or write down the path. use the command expand atioglxx.dl_ atioglxx.dll and copy the file to your SWKotor2 dir. Or if you want it to affect your entire system, go to C:\Windows\System32 and rename atioglxx.dll to atioglxx.dll.5.2 or something so you remember what it is. Then copy the 4.11 file there. Or you can do it all in one swoop. expand atioglxx.dl_ C:\Windows\System32\atioglxx.dll
  19. Many games support EAX 4 and only state 'EAX 3' in their preferences. And yes, it isn't much of an advancement over EAX 3. As far as KOTOR 2 goes, since the sound is in mono, directional effects are a bit limited. EAX does cause environmental and positional effects in KOTOR 2, I can hear them. But to my ears, the effects are not very strong.
  20. I haven't tried this myself because I'm playing in the res I want. But try editing swkotor2.ini and changing the Width and Height entries under the [Graphics Options] to match your preferred res. The entries under [Display Options] supposedly affect in-game movies.
  21. If you have not submitted any bug reports yet, please do so. Lucasarts will judge the merits of another patch based on how many outstanding bugs there are not being addressed by the upcoming patch and how many reports they keep getting. So please keep those reports coming if you haven't sent yours yet.
  22. Can you tell us what sound card or chip you're using and post the [sound Options] section of swkotor2.ini?
  23. I have to agree. I can think of a half dozen recent games that have nasty problems with Intel onboard graphics. A new low end or used mid-end video card would not only improve compatibility, but things would run MUCH faster in any 3D game or program. I used to have a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 and it ran KOTOR 1 beautifully.
  24. Depends on how you reinstall windows... If you do a format of your windows partition (system partition) your registry will be completely new.... Of course... but a format isn't a reinstall. The two commonly go together, but I was referring to just the one part. Hardtarget, have you had any luck yet?
