Solid GUI in Progress
BlueLion replied to MasterPrudent's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
How is any design better than any other? I know for sure that I loved the BG UI, but hated the NWN and NWN2 UIs. Me, I want something which is stylish, clear and fits the game's theme. I don't like when all the things you want to see is shrunk to minimal sizes. I want something which feels solid and tangible and not something which reminds me of shuffling around windows in my OS' interface. There are always certain ways that one design is better than another. It's about finding the right balance of form vs function. For example, there is no gain in NOT having a full page inventory as it increases the amount of space available and doesn't detract from the gameplay as you don't need to see the edges of the areas. -
Suggestion about Buffing Abilities
BlueLion replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think a better method would be to allow spells to used outside of combat but each spell increases the enemy detection range by a varying degree. Although, ultimately, I'm quite happy with the current restrictions. -
Solid GUI in Progress

Can someone explain how this is a better GUI design? Other than from a nostalgia point of view. FWIW I'm not bashing, I'm genuinley interested in the pros/cons. -
In the leads meeting they mentioned that all the sounds had been set at the same level to be balanced individually. I'm guessing that the levels haven't been balanced correctly YET. Combine that with the sound balancing that the stream settings would do automatically and we have a very lifeless sounding stream. However, I'm sure they will be changing this in the next few weeks and we will all be much more happy in the near future.

I loved this little interaction, however the pauses were a bit too long in my opinion. I almost wandered if they had forgot to reply.

Stun. I think maybe the ambient sounds are causing people to critique the towns. I too feel like there's 'something' missing but whether the ambient sounds will solve that we will see soon no doubt. Loving the game progress, so incredibly excited for March. Fortunately have Darkest Dungeon early access to keep me occupied in the mean time.

Combat readability analysis - graphics
BlueLion replied to Justinian's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Thanks for the response Adam. Glad to hear that it's a case of 'not done that area' yet with regards to the lighting balance. Also, I honestly didn't even realise stealth made them transparent, how silly of me. -
I believe you two are having a semantic argument. The amount of 'interactive' content is at a suitable level. But, the things that create the immersion, in this case peasants, are quite low in numbers. Yes, we don't expect to be able to have full conversations with them all, but their existence would definitely increase the 'living' feeling the areas would convey.

Combat readability analysis - graphics
BlueLion replied to Justinian's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Keep pushing this one Quantic, it's my only remaining gripe, excluding very minor points. It also only seems to occur indoors. I have no knowledge of game design but maybe if it only occurs indoors there just needs to be a tweak with interior lighting filters on character models? And, if so, shouldn't be too hard a fix to implement at this late stage. -
I think you will live. Seriously it isn't a big deal, your immersion can take it. I find it quite annoying. If the messages were lore based it would be interesting. However, an option to turn these off in the actual game options would be nice. Not sure if thats what the developer meant earlier in the thread?

I like it. Suits the medieval periodisation. -
I too liked the VA. I thought it hit the right balance of characterisation without being unnaturally dramatic. I don't expect some random guy I meet in the street to sound like he's announcing the latest film trailer.

Unfortunately, my gut is telling me I've heard 1080p mentioned before. I hope it's higher. I have been playing Serpent in the Staglands beta lately and the combat speed in that game is brilliant. It's quite noticeably slower that PoE but I find myself, because of the speed, actively positioning characters and playing much less with pause activated.

Ouch. Bad bad bad. I bought a 2560x1440 screen because they said during the kickstarter that it would be the native resolution of all of PoE's art assets. Lowering that resolution = bad move. I'd hate to be stuck with a zoomed-out blurry scaled view after tailoring my purchase for this game. Hopefully we can get a definite answer to this, I plan to DSR to the native res if it's higher than 1080. But, going by Sensuki's comment, looks like I'll be sticking at 1080.

Loved this stream. Combat seemed much more enjoyable/balanced and the depth of the story and multitude of options is incredible. I found myself roleplaying my own character when he went into the keep, thinking about what it would be like to join up with the knights. Background art etc is mindblowing. - Agree that the white text on wooden panels is poor. - Would like a little border around the square icons for the selected trait during level up screen as well as the item being created in the crafting screen. - Pathfinding is better but causes a problem on one occasion in combat as alluded to by Indira. Question - What is the max resolution we can play this game on where it will scale accurately as intended. If you put it on 4k will everything be stuck at super zoomed out?
-
And then the real test of OE's commitment to the game will begin...

Well said Sensuki. Although, I don't agree with you on all topics I do admire the time you take to provide logical and well thought out reasoning to your points. My only concern is that you are aiming for a mark too close to perfection and will be bitterly disappointed. On a side note, I hate SJWs, people take offence far too easily these days.
