Yeah, the co-op was really fun and hectic. Hopefully Capcom revamps the controls in the next game though. I mean, why the heck do I have to first use one button to ready the knife and then another to swing it when neither of those buttons do anything else on their own? Why not just a general "swing knife"-button?, etc.

What soldiers were these, I can't remember there being other than Duty, Loners and the occasional bandit in Agropom. Unless you mean SoC, heh. I'm starting it again myself as well.

The school didn't really fit into FEAR at all. FEAR was about bleak, eerie and wonderfully gloomy corporate offices and industrial complexes. It's a gloomy, eerie and depressing school for an industry giant's human genetic experiments on children in their early years, where teachers' desks have notes on the use of psychoactive drugs on the kids, instead of say, how well Billy did in the gym last week. I'd say that fits pretty well.

Yeah, I don't mind either if there's all that in an rpg.

The problems is that, especially, in tabletop to PC rpg conversions, some of us expect to be able to outfit and design our avatar just like we would in an actual rpg campaign or scenario. Naturally, whatever tools they provide will always pale in comparison to imagination and some penwork, but some effort would be appreciated.

I loved the school level in the demo. It ties so very well into the previous game. Unfortunately, the demo was pretty easy. I only died because of 360 and snipers.

BREAKING NEWS: NEW DAWN OF WAR 2 FOOTAGE
Musopticon? replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
You should definitely try Ground Control 2 again, it's a great strategy game and the campaign isn't bad either. Nice scifi epic. On vanilla C&C 3, well, the Ai partakes in the greatest problem of the whole game - unit spam and total dependence on economic domination. It goes straight for the throat until it holds all tiberium in the map and then it steamrolls you. I mentioned KW not because the skirmish AI was better or anything, but because the campaign Ai is finally a tough nut to crack and not just a bunch of mission-dependent scripts, which sometimes deem to send the odd ten units to be chewed down by your walls of turrets and airfields of craft. I honestly can't beat KW sp campaign, which is pretty cool, considering how little rts nowadays challenge me. Just remembered another example - Battle for Middle-Earth 2:RotWk. -
Honestly, they tried it with Eberron, but nobody bought it. Of course they'll just reroll back to FR since it's the setting that sells the most.

BREAKING NEWS: NEW DAWN OF WAR 2 FOOTAGE
Musopticon? replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
Which examples? I'm serious when I'm saying that I can't remember anytime that computers were a match unless I was vastly outnumbered and completely alone. At least Ground Control 2, Kane's Wrath and Homeworld games regularly whoop me. I'd hesitate to add older strategy games, since I'm not sure how much of the difficulty there is based on just pure scripting, e. g darned Starcraft AI. -
Amplifier - Gustav's Arrival Gf bought Insider for me as xmas present. *wub*

BREAKING NEWS: NEW DAWN OF WAR 2 FOOTAGE
Musopticon? replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
^I can come up with a few examples, but the point stands that Relic games haven't had stellar ais before, so no doubt DoW 2 is any different. Hoping for some ingenious Tyranid scripts at least, though. -
Overlord Top ranks of minions, still zany and relatively mad. I love this area, great atmosphere. The Oberon fight ending with the emergence from Evernight to these Golden Hills was frankly the best moments so far.

Dugog doesn't have a level cap IIRC, so he'll always be higher level than you. Though it would be insane to go against the guy without at least a level 15 character. I usually do it on level 17-18. Can't remember what abilities Druids had, but at least Forest Fire spam and constant selfhealing(since it's the Druids' unique ability) works. And maximizing the damage you do with every skull. This means getting Eric's Bow(from the Ogre Brothers quest IIRC) since it does the largest amount of damage for every class, until you cap your yellow or green mana and kill everything with Un/Holy Lance, and any items that increase damage. You'll have to either kill Dugog before he does his ultimate move, Double Roar, or luck it out. I've honestly only survived that move a couple of times(of all the odd 30 attempts in that fight). Mages have the fight easy, since both Mana Drain and Flaming Skulls are game winners, same with Warriors and their Throw Axe, but Druids and Paladins have to struggle a bit. Of course, it helps when you balance the fight on both getting every skull combination on the board and denying the enemy all the mana tyoes he needs. Sounds complicated, but with that attitude the bosses are easier. Hang in there, Dugog is the second hardest bastard in the game.

Basically, the plot is about stopping the second large emission, first one made hell for your nervous system and naturally you don't want it to happen again. Most of the time in the main plot you'll be running after various people who might have a clue what set off the emission or how it could be prevented from happening again. Also, from the first game is very much tied into all this. A prequel is a prequel. A word of warning however, the more you free-roam without actual purpose in mind(not solving missions, or advancing the plot) the more frequently the game sets off emissions. Can be quite annoying, especially if the marked safe spot on your map is in a hostile territory. Should you feel like treasure-hunting in the earlier areas after advancing the plot for some time, it's a good idea to save every time before leaving an area, in case you'll be caught in an emission and the game picks an unreachable safe spot(very rare, but supposedly can happen). Another thing, artifacts only respawn in certain areas and after several, too many for me, days. However, when you get your hands on a new artifact detector, say, Bear, it's worthwhile to look into old zones, since the game is scripted in a way that you'll only be able to see some artifacts with the better detectors. Naturally the best detector(so far it's the Veles for me) shows all artifacts. For instance, there's a very nifty Soul in the acid swamp in Garbage, which you won't be able to find with Echo. Finally, just a cool thing: There's no longer any offset for wearing a radiation-absorbing artifact like Wretched. No bleeding status or anything. You just need an artifact pocket for it. Naturally there's not much sense to wear any artifacts without a Wretched or a Jellyfish.

Well, Red Forest sucks donkey balls even in the second iteration of the series. Surprise, surpsrise! Anyways, Clear Sky has been way better than SoC so far. Only the plot is kinda mehtacular.
-
Williamson's Darker than you think is a great modern werewolf book which anyone interested should get and read right now. Just saying.
-
On FPS difficulty, Stalker:Clear Sky just kept handing me my ass on a platter until I scavenged enough dough for a reinforced suit and a silencer-scope combo for my TRs 301(which I picked up from a dead merc after a fight where I mostly stayed put in a small hole). Even after that the game presents you with situations that complete mess with your "lol, I can pick them from a mile away and never even be hit" attitude, such as enviromental hazards, enemies that resist your normal ammunition, unorthodox attack methods like psi and gravity, etc. Not to mention, leaving you alone without equipment or protection in the center of the Zone and having to fight your gear back armed with a lousy sidearm and one set of bandages. That was awesome. Then again, quick-saving takes the edge off everything.

Note, I'm playing on a laptop. And running Witcher on Vista(well, a vista with less peripherals and increased UserVa, but a Vista neverthless). It runs fine and looks pretty in all other locations expect Trade Quarter and Old Vizima. No complaints really.
-
Just got to Old Vizima in the Witcher EE and by Gog, it's a lagfest of epic proportions. Fire, constant group fights and long streets make hell with my cruddy 8600. Has been a blast so far though, and I love Gwalhir and Aerondight. Some of the writing is top notch as well. It's just mixed in with a ton of ugh-moments and some very forced grins. I guess it's back to Overlord though, had enough of costly decisions and grayness for a while there. And Krul Foltest completely bent me over in poker *bawww*

Two new scenarios roll out last week of Jan. A blessing for those who are already level 5 in the Society grand campaign Fortunately, I've just reached my first level up after surviving some piratey action(and some horrible climb and swim checks) in the Hydra's Fang Incident, and so am nowhere near that end. Furthermore, my build is a total gimp, but whatever. Shouldn't expect anything else by going to a tactical scenario campaign with a jack-of-all-trades ranger, pfft. Have to plan a bit ahead in order to actually survive the Frozen Fingers of Midnight in two weeks time. Like for instance, not making a completely ass class choice in this level up. I asked the GM to freeze my character because I needed time to ponder whether another ranger level is worth it for an archer-skill guy. In my defence, I planned my Taldoran Ranger, Vasco Cantige, first as a character with fluff that plays into the whole Society powerplay situation and then as an effective build. That's why there's the freaking Know. Dungeoneering which shall never ever have a purpose in any scenario I shall ever play, gahh. I can count the times I've needed Know. Nobility or Local or History so far. There's 5. That's 5 more than the freaking Dungeoneering skill.

The original pnp mechanic is to force an initiative roll, which is 1d20 + Dex modifier + any external bonuses(Improved Initiative, etc). I don't know if Initiative is even featured in NWN. Naturally, that wouldn't matter, since you always fail an Initiative roll anyway. There's just so many numbers under 10.
