  2. Clive Barker's Undying is a really effective game, it's silly how atmospheric and original they managed to make it, in light of the fairly bog-standard spiritual successor.
  3. I think there's a couple of shocker moments actually, but it has mostly to do with triggered noises(psy monkey for the first time, freaking midwife, etc). Also, the game really doesn't have the classic monster closet problem and since monsters are randomly placed around the area every time a level loads, unless it's an area that stays cleared, the horror doesn't rely on triggers to build suspension. In fact, that's one of the biggest points for me, the creeps and you are both roaming the decks and the game has very little force-feeding.
  4. I've had some of my best scares in Thief fanmissions actually, try Calendra series(C's Cistern, Legacy), the Inverted Manse(Sledge was hired first by Ion Storm Austin and then Arkane, thanks to this), Dyer's Eve, Profane Awakening, all of the Japanese ones, Ranstall Keep(it's in freaking monochrome, awesome), Order of the Vine, Island of Iron series, Ominous Bequest, Lady Rowena(annoyingly effective writing there) etc. Anyhow, atmosphere does me a lot more good than random gotcha-type scares,
  5. Sausage fest! Can I bring a girl?
  6. "Dragonfire" likely refers to Quest for Glory VII:Dragonfire, which an entirely different kind of game, but yeah: I agree that Broken Sword tried too much to be Gabriel Knight. I consider Syberia 1 to be a better adventure game than BS 2:The Smoking Mirror, though my Sokal fandom might play into that.
  7. First of all, remember to only update to 1.0005 version, the newest version(the one in Steam, etc) only addressed multiplayer problems and is rather pointless, and of course the most important fact is that many of the best mods(ABC Inferno, Lost Alpha alpha, Oblivion Lost. etc) are made for the 1.005 version. Anyway, once you finish with the vanilla version, because that's what everyone should do with mod-friendly games to both gain perspective and get the original vision, you should look into the Oblivion Lost mod since it aims to be a total conversion and almost succeeds at it. Brilliant work by the OL team.
  8. Slug's life so much more interesting than mine.
  9. After making my first Wordpress blog(sheesh, that was simple enough), I played some more Mount and Blade and realised that sticking to your fief was the last thing one should do in order to prosper. Instead, I raided the countryside somewhat, bet in a tournament(bet myself of course) and won and generally on my skill of being a major pain in the ass for the warring states. I think it might be time to try some semi-professional mods, especially ones with story content, since I've just about seen enough of the vanilla game.
  10. Sheesh. Resident moral patrol away! I'd understand mkreku's intention when he posted the link was to legitimize the site (and/)or legitimize getting ad revenue for it somehow, but this kind of feedback is unnecessary guys.
  11. Oh, this thing has just about everyone of the removed levels in it, swamp, deadcity, etc. Pretty cool. Hopefully this also means someone can plunder the level architecture and implement them into the 1.0005 version.
  12. I think I followed the manager stuff to the letter and it still didn't work, odd. Though it could just be a registry problem and I forgot to download one odd file. Thanks. Despite my Torment addiction boiling, I managed to try Mount and Blade. Pretty great freeroamer, I started as a disowned Velucan noble who quickly immersed himself into Khergit bloodletting, the art of bow and horse. Roamed the Khanate for a good while, until Wilrath took the banner of the Khan and waged war against the Swebians. An endless struggle, that was. After surviving three sieges in Swebia and sneaking into the very heartlands to do stealth missions and even kidnapping a noble lord, Wilrath decided to become a vassal for the Khan. His fiefdom was a petty little border village and surrounding woods near the newly conquered border of Swebia and Vaegir. Soon enough the Swaebians contacted the new vassalage and demanded the release of their noble, Wilrath took the offer of 23 score of denars and used them to start building a messenger post in his small fief, Chide. Time would tell whether the new lordling could retain his handfull of land and power or whether it would remain as just a fleeting remark on the ashen pages of the Khanate history. Sometimes he could do nothing but thank Armazd, the skylord and father, for the reprieve the small hamlet provided from the fires of war. Then again, managing the vassalate is really freaking boring. Why does it cost a kingdom to build just a small messenger post? Why does the fiefdom have to be on the edge of civilization and all possibilities of making money on the other? Argh. Anyhow, it's funny how much this game reminds me of Rome:TW and especially some mods for it. Partly it's because of the setting armors and weapons, part
  13. It's an antioxidant-based cleaning detergent. I don't know why they go on about it all the time.
  14. Tenchu? IIRC, supernatural has always been an element in the series. It's about fictional ninjas afterall.
  15. I'm not deriding the system, I think it's a great idea. It's just that I don't really feel like registering to a foreign service for 9.95 US monthly when I'm penniless, credit-cardless and a foreign student without any credit or actual debit. Maybe in a couple of years, heh. Thanks anyway. Edit: And ini tweaking made it workable in windowed mode 640x480. Guess I'll go for true old-skool, bah.
  16. Thanks, but I'll stick with my already bought version. I don't feel like registering for something I already have.
  17. Nvmddlkm at it again! I can't play a mage because every effect kills Torment for 30 seconds of stutter and fail if I use the Widescreen mod. Then the good old nvmddlkm error hops up on the desktop. After arsin' around troubleshooting forums 8 hours and the final "fix" ending up at a Vista display troubleshooting screen(which I can't use because NVIDIA doesn't allow it for some reason), I admit defeat. Downloading a combatibility manager program and creating a custom profile for Torment doesn't fix anything, window mode crashes the mod when loading a save, I can't "drop the hardware rendering a notch" because Troubleshooting in Display Settings only displays a grayed out button, the software modes in the game fix the problem but each one, used separately or together, slows the game down to crawl and finally most of the troubleshooting and tweak documentation for the mod is for XP SP3, not Vista SP1. I can't bloody well use the mod then, damned Vista. I hate this crap, have to tweak every game to bits because Princess OS has no compatibility with anything. I guess I should only play games released after 2008 afterall, argh. Well, it's back to windowed mode and 640x480 for me. Correction: The problem persists, I see. Well, then it's back to general Torment troubleshooting. I'd try my store-bought 4-cd version, see if it's just a problem with the Reloaded version(I've bought the game back in 2001 so shush), but it's 240 km away, gah.
  18. Planescape Torment, for the second time ever. I must have a both forgot a hundred quests in the 4 years hiatus I took from the game and also found a hundred new ones. Very, very well written thing, this one.

    Books

I've read all of the Ceaser series and it's a blast. His only problem is holding all the threads in his hands, his last two books were rather rushed. I don't know why, but the Conqueror series has yet to pick me up. Right now Im slowly going through the Malazan series and it's damned great.
  20. Why does that magnum have a scope on it? Every Magnum in the game is like that. Seriously. Wtf.
  21. Thanks, CA. That looks pretty packed for once. Edit: And apparently there should be two factions there, at least one which is playable(Mugharals).
  22. It looks nice, has a very cool UI, is silent and has some very decent games, but 360 has a ton of content I like, so should I purchase a this gen console in the near future, that would be it. Going to get a last gen console first though, PS2 for me.
  23. "What you did today?" brownies om nom nom noams
  24. Fortunately, everything else except the Hiroshima payload would reduce my town to burnt post-apocalyptic husks. As for my uni, well, Tsar Bomba seems to do the trick, heh.
