Speaking of Crusader Kings, I made the terrible mistake of taking off Steam's adult content block, and was recommended a game called "Sex with Stalin", because apparently it was similar to Crusader Kings III. Well, yeah, I guess, in a sense.

The China sales started on Steam. A bunch of anime games I had on my wishlist had lower prices than on Christmas, so I bought them... I guess the Chinese are big on buying them on steam.

They are quite different, PF exists for PnP, while PoE exists for the story of the computer games. I wouldn't say that's the main difference of the two games though, PoE is more easy to learn, while Kingmaker is like D&D lets use all the books hell.

I read negative ones on steam for games I'm uncertain about, to see if they actually have any information. Most of the time they don't, but sometimes they do.

The steam review system in general is very faulty, as people use it more of as a general feedback feature rather than as reviews as whole games. I've seen games drop to "mixed" because a recent DLC had a bug that wasn't fixed in a day. The bigger the fanbase, the smaller the problem people get annoyed about that can cause a game to drop in reviews. It might be a useful feature, but it's not really a review system, in the same way the word is understood everywhere else.

What's a creative director do anyway? Do they just handle the art, music etc, or is it writing too?

Because these are made by Japanese nerds for other Japanese nerds, who have no social relationships, and the only reference point for social intercourse is school. Not that they had social relationships there either, but they saw others having them. For a less cynical answer, it's just part of the culture for anime/manga/games. I'm sure some researcher or journalist could delve deeper for some sociopsychological reason (and maybe has), but on the face of it, it's just what they do.
