  1. I'm not the only person then who's complaining about the music this game being at a much lower resolution then the music in the first game. Which is a true pitty because the actual score is very nice. I'd expect this from a budget title, but this is supposed to be a Lucas related company that prides itself in its sound quality. When first playing the game and hearing the music in the main menu I swore that a bug was responsible for the muffled sound. I then checked the files, and it wasn't me it was the source files. Maybe we can get a patch with high resolution music and the full ending?
  2. I like the idea of sabers being more rare, but not like this. Personally I would have given the player his personal saber (not able to be used by other characters) at about the time you met Atris. Other sabers you'd then gain from completing certain quests or defeating certain 'bosses.' They'd never be random loot. For example the Tomb in Korriban would lead to one saber, defeating the Sith Lord in Freedon Nadd's tomb would lead to another, killing the various Jedi masters would give you their sabers, etc.

  4. Actually, he was once the good man who was Master Vandar. You see, Visas lied to cover the fact that Vandar was sneaking away from under Nihilus' cloak to show up again in KOTOR3.
  5. I half expected Kreia to die 3/4ths through the game (like Ravel), find out that Nihilus is the force that was ripped from you and he cannot leave Malachor V for long periods of time so you must confront him there, and Atris is Darth Traya Fortunately, the plot isn't exactly like PS:T
  6. Peragus I felt was too long as an introduction, though it was good. An hour long intro or so with sidequests and then allowing the player some more freedom of choice I think would work best. KOTOR2 really shows the limits of the engine. Some scenes like the Telos beach with the shield wall are spectacular, but the lowres textures and low polygon count in the environments really makes places like Dxun and the city on Onderon suffer. Nar Shadaa not having a lot of bystanders and vehicles flying nearby also makes it seem not as alive. Similarly, the refugee camp seemed rather clean. I think my main complaint is that for the dark mood a limited color palette and overall visually bland textures were used, as opposed to making parts of items actually seem worn with age, etc. For example, the Ravager and Harbinger. Instead of making it prestine and clean looking like the KOTOR1 ships very dark textures and lighting is used. Having prestine segments and areas without power, bloodstains, and blaster burns would then make things seem more 'lived in' and realistic. Nar Shadaa and Onderon could have had graffiti related to the situations on the planets, etc. The Ebon Hawk I think is one part of the game where they did the 'darker mood' right. With the damaged segments having a different look, scaffolding, the lighting seeming like it's on a lower setting, etc. The difference is that I would have had one or two segments of the ship with the original lighting, and another area flickering between the new and old lighting. To make it seem more like the ship is barely keeping itself working. Obsidian though did do a good job in not letting things seem as much like tilesets in KOTOR2. A lot of KOTOR1 felt like tilesets, but very well done ones. The environments just seem to scream "add detail here" in KOTOR2 though...

  8. My first playthrough I was able to convert everyone into Jedi save the Handmaiden who oddly enough it seemed I couldn't get enough influence with (I assume) to actually train her.
  9. Odd, I've tried reversing the sound files in Cool Edit as well as in Adobe Audition. They still sound like jibberish, but reversed jibberish now
  10. Malak was definately a fool, while Revan fell to the darkside for reasons other than pure power. Revan didn't use the Star Forge to its full extent since he wanted to maintain control. He sacrificed pure power to maintain order so that he could conquer the Republic and then fortify it against another threat. Malak though was simply reckless and power-hungry. Revan wanted to 'save the Republic' in the same sense as G0T0. Stabilization of the galaxy was necessary, even if it meant that order had to be attained through the dark side. What surprises me though is that the Sith actually use the light/dark terminology, I would think that they would call it something else in their belief that they aren't so much 'evil' but strong.
  11. I was very surprised at the voice acting. While in my mind from the previews I expected Bao-Dur and Mira to be different it turned out Kreia, Atton, Visas, and the Handmaiden were dead on from what you'd think they'd be like from the concept art. Atris made me blink for a second, but then I realised that she was supposed to be a snobby, tragic, Bastila type character. Personally I would have made her soft-spoken like Vash, which would make her being full of anger and emotion more of a contrast. Of course I would have also loved to have seen flashbacks of when Kreia was young and training Revan, seeing her relationship with the other Jedi Masters. I'm assuming that the KOTOR2 avatar of the woman in white who is not Atris is a young Kreia and this might have been planned, then again that might be a Handmaiden concept. All in all, the writing and sound in the game are the strongest parts. The engine though needs to be put out and shot
  12. Does it strike anyone odd that in KOTOR 1 and 2 (at least the lightside path in 2) that two planets are destroyed in each during the course of the game? KOTOR1: Taris and Dantooine KOTOR2: Peragus and Malachor V These Jedi are very hazardous to the galaxy, maybe that's why G0T0 tried to detain the Exile
  13. I agree that the game had some real "huh?" moments at the start of Malachor V. Back to the main topic though: Kreia: Very well done. A little too obvious though, just like the PC being Revan in KOTOR1 was a little obvious. Sion: It would have been better if he continued to hound you through the game as he did on Korriban. He had the potential of being a truly great menace, as it was he was decent. Nihilus: Wonderful concept, too bad there weren't things like a flashback about Katar, Malachor, or other ways of seeing him to get the backstory without directly confronting him.

  15. The game has some great, cinematic, moments. Especially some of the parts of Nar-Shadaa and Onderon.
  16. Of course the Exile could still work as a character. Being alone in the Unknown Reaches would mean that there would be no one to siphon the Force from. Meaning that the Exile would slowly but surely lose his/her connection with the Force. Which might be all that saves the Exile from detection by the Sith. During the course of the game, the Exile regains power as s/he did in KOTOR2.

  18. I managed to get my saber on Nar Shadaa (I did it as my first planet after Telos) right before facing the Exchange. It came *very* handy and it was a very cinematic and poetic sort of thing having the saber before that sequence
  19. When first installing the game, I thought something was wrong with the music because it sounded very... well low resolution. Then I checked the files, 48kb/s compared to KOTOR1's 128kb/s. The music itself is great, but this low sound quality is I think an insult to the work that went into the tracks... and it makes the music sound like it's through a cardboard tube compared to the original. I'm wondering what Lucasarts was thinking when compressing the music... Edit- It wound up multiple posting when I put this up. It's also sad when the music sample rate in the launcher is higher than the in-game music. You'd think that the autoplay would be where the lower samplerate would be used to save space... not in the game. *sigh*
  20. It's clear from KOTOR1 that there is a rough overall story arc for the series. Canderous mentions the Sith Empire hiding in their borders, the Jedi Council seeing "the true threat" etc. KOTOR2 seems to not truly advance the plot forward, but fill in the details. You see the results of Revan's war, more information on his past and motives, and then you're told where exactly s/he went. Having a cliffhanger ending when it's unlikely that the sequel will directly follow the Exile does seem pointless to me.

With all of the rampant speculation about KOTOR3, let's help any potential devs by giving an entertaining thread on exactly what *not* to do for KOTOR3 If Knights of the Old Republic III was like Return of the Jedi: 1) The opening sequence would be a returned to what is left of Taris, starting with HK and T3 and then hoping between other NPCs with the main character appearing later. This linear sequence occurs in one area, and lasts for 12 hours of the game. 2) Mandalore is "killed" during the escape of the player. Fan fiction and extended universe writers attempt to resurrect their beloved character for the rest of eternity. 3) The final 8 hours of the game deal with the discovery of a StarForge II in orbit of a tropical planet eerily like the Unknown World where the first Starforge was. 4) The player character lands on this planet, and deals with a new race of diminutive humanoids who aid against the Sith. Later the player finds Revan and the Exile and leaves for StarForge II. 5) A lengthy fight sequence where the player fights innumerable amounts of enemies in each room of StarForge II lasts for what appears to be an indefinate period of time. This is interspliced with the occasional snippets of a space battle between the Republic and Sith fleets where players can swoon over Carth Onassi, Atton Rand, and Mira. 6) When finally reaching the throne room and confronting The True Sith, a long, linear dialogue with little to no roleplaying opporunities intersplices a crudely constructed four way battle between the player, the Exile, Revan, and The Truth Sith. 7) StarForge II is then destroyed after a set period of time. Revan and the Exile kill The True Sith while the player is dying. The player then attempts to save Revan and the Exile as StarForge II explodes. The end sequence on the tropical planet shows force spirits of Malak, Kreia, Vrook, Vandar, the Exile, and Revan all in a group photo looking oddly young, goofy, and smiling at the player.
