  1. When i was still living in Italy i used to buy my games from foreign sources, and i always strived to get the american version of each, even if i ended up dishing more money. Perhaps you could do the same, as it will be very impropable such an option would be even remotely possible.
  2. I think Blizzard run circles around them, Square-enix are all about graphic detail and little else...
  3. Nope, freedom of choise and killing all NPCs have NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER WHATSOEVER. Just quit it, 'mkay ?!?
  4. Er..., Star Wars it's still a Dune rip-off, except now it's also a Foundation rip off and a Lens Men rip off. It's a John Carter of Mars rip off too, i don't know what else, i'm sure there's lot more rip off involving. He even ripped off one of my favored sci-fi books (Eon) in Howard the Duck, down to the very design of the alien creature. Lucas is a con artists, but rabid fans just don't get it... The hell he did : http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/20...ucas/index.html The last and most crucial link to "Star Wars" and literary science fiction is Leigh Brackett, the original scriptwriter for "The Empire Strikes Back," the first sequel, and by any reasonable standard the best of the series. The late Pauline Kael was a tireless champion of journeyman director Irvin Kershner, and many film buffs take her lead in crediting Kershner with the movie's sense of urgency and drama. But this does an injustice to Brackett, whose career uniquely bridged pulp science fiction and Hollywood. Brackett started out writing space operas in the Smith mode. Her first short story was published by Astounding in 1940, and she quickly became known as an expert pulp technician. She was also a capable teacher, upgrading the work of her husband Edmond Hamilton and tutoring the young Ray Bradbury, who credits her with getting him started as a writer. Brackett was also adept at other genres. Her first novel, "No Good From a Corpse" (1944), was a mystery story couched in hard-boiled prose so convincing that director Howard Hawks told his secretary to contact "that guy Brackett" to help on his adaptation of Raymond Chandler's "The Big Sleep." Even when he found out she wasn't a guy, Hawks liked her work well enough to use her on several other films: "Rio Bravo" (1959), "Hatari!" (1961), "El Dorado" (1967), "Rio Lobo" (1970) and "Man's Favorite Sport" (1962). When not writing screenplays, Brackett cranked out a stream of novels: Westerns and mysteries as well as science fiction. Prior to signing on with Lucas, she scripted Robert Altman's 1973 version of "The Long Goodbye" and wrote one episode of a short-lived television series based on Ross Macdonald's Lew Archer mysteries. Brackett died of cancer shortly after submitting her first draft of "The Empire Strikes Back." Though the film's credits list her as screenwriter along with Lawrence Kasdan, Pollock says Lucas had to throw out her draft and start from scratch with Kasdan's help. This is hard to swallow, bearing in mind that Lucas and Kasdan also co-wrote "Return of the Jedi." The strengths of "The Empire Strikes Back" echo those of Brackett's own work as surely as the mediocrity of "Return of the Jedi" matches that of Kasdan's subsequent films, all built from secondhand materials: Chandler-lite for "Body Heat," warmed-over John Sayles for "The Big Chill."
  5. Balance, what balance ?!? What is this balance that you speak of ?!? I never seen it in KOTOR, maybe i missed it...
  6. I think this is a correct critisism. You don't need to draw runes in the air or mix ingredients in order to 'cast' the force, Bioware simply got lazy and couldn't think of something better to balance their 'fighter/mages'. If lightsabers were dexetery based (why in the hell are they based on strenght in the first place ?!?), wearing armors should reduce your dexetery bonus with a light saber on top of the usual AC bonus. There, simple, ain't it ?!?
  7. He's just the puppet for evil powers... They all are...
  8. You could say it's just his job, but personally speaking, i wouldn't be able to digest such a huge amount of subpar material and bad writing even if i was getting paid for it... B) In any case, great interview, the more i learn about Chris Avellone, the more i like about the guy...
  9. Ditto. Unless you are Blizzard and can afford an extremely talented core team devoted on cinemtatics alone, there isn't a real pratical way to make cinematics interesting. Lucas Arts used to make real film tibits for their games (does anybody remember Jedi Knight ?!?), if only they could retain a portion of the glory they had, they could have helped Obsidian make this a better game...
  10. Difficoulty should be achieved with the use of strategical combat and tactical options. Buffing enemies only garantees one thing : frustration and lots of reloads...

  13. "Pointer mode" was on by default if I remember correctly. Nope, by default, you could only have a pointer my right clicking with your mouse. I really couldn't come to terms playing the game that way, but then i realized i could switch set up and have the mouse cursor on all the time, whilst using the keyboard to move around. Right clicking with the mouse allowed me to rotate the camera. All in all, it wasn't a bad system, but i still rather have top down view and a party of six. Damn you Xbox...
  14. Baldur's Gate 2 romances were as lame as cliched as Bastila romance. They were tagged there to please all the little prepubescent, hormonal teens who started screaming 'romances' just because they were able to kiss Annah in Torment. The result was pure sh*t, but ho well. As for Baldur's Gate 3, well, there is no BG3...
  15. Make them skippable after the first time...
  16. Frankly, i don't think they need a cap, all they have to do is balance the game to end within level 15, which is where KOTOR should have ended in the first place. Level 30 or 35 ?!? I don't get it, what can you fight at level 35 that's even remotely challenging, the Death Star ?!?
  17. Yeah, it really sucks that the level of realism in our FANTASY ROLE PLAYING GAMES is so low. Every heard of willing suspension of disbelief ?!? Just because a game it's a fantasy doesn't mean everything goes you goof. In a setting, ANY setting, everything must have a reasonable exscuse to happen. If Star Wars tell us that the some people can use a mystical energy called the force to push things around and choke random people to death fine, but when Padme lands 40 feets over a carapace creature without shattering her hips you are freaking asking for it. You see, even in a fantasy, the rules of reality must apply, because a fantasy IS reality, with a few concessions which ultimetly need to be well thought out and in harmony with the rest of the setting in order to work properly. I have no problems with a talking gorilla, but when Mark Wahlberg gets punched by one and sent 30 feets up the air and gets up without much of a bruise in his face you are braking my suspention of disbelief, becuase i was never told that humans of the future had adamantum esoskeletons beneath their skins.

  20. Too late, somebody already posted that interview...
  21. I fantasize about being Chris Avellone. Opps, did i just say that loud ?!?
  22. No, being 'force' sensitive only means you can use the force.
  23. Ditto. Let's not forget that party members are just as powerful as you are, not much of an apprentice when your 'padawan' is the same level as you are. A regular NPC however, maybe...
