You "forgot" to use the force? oh, come on....
Opus131 replied to Meshugger's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You mean the new movies. Frankly, i don't take the prequels in considerarion, so your's a moot point. The original trilogy was realistic enought, and i clearly remember seeing wars fought with huge, technological monstruositities, starting from the Death Star, all the way to immense star fleets and those giganting walking command centers. Jedi are generally involved in individual conflict, not full fledged war. What's the use of a Jedi (particularly when there's so few of them) in such a large scale war ?!? The only Jedi that ever changed the 'tide of the battle' was Luke when he used the force to shoot his target without the aid of a an automated targetting system, and that didn't exactly made him much better of a Jedi either, he had to train with Yoda for that. Fact is, there's no reason to beleive the powers you start with in KOTORII are any worst then what your character ever had. In the end, nowhere does it says how strong of a Jedi your character was in the first place. Maybe you were a level 3 Jedi who receded to the lowest level after being out of practice for so long, seems rather reasonable to me, this isn't the story of a Jedi Master who receded to padawan levels (Kyle Katarn comes to mind)... -
PLanets the same size? what?

I don't know which engine looks better. It's hard to compare Far Cry with a game nobody has played yet, as videos and screen shots don't make the game justice. I really didn't thought Far Cry looked all that good untill i played the actual game to tell you the truth. It's aslo unfair to compare Far Cry with anything. Even if both engines were even a gorgeous tropical island always beats the dark, brooding setting of Half Life 2. But even so, the fact Far Cry might look 'better' doesn't make Half Life 2 look like crap, far from it, Half Life 2 looks absolutly stunning form where i'm standing. Also, there are many other factors to consider in an engine besides it's rendering power. The character animations in Half Life 2 are defenatly light years above anything i ever seen in a game, which would be much more important then mere graphical eye candy when it comes to using the engine for an RPG. The Half Life 2 also excels in other things besides graphics, like AI and scrypting. (another immensely important characteristic for an RPG). Compared to what we've seen of Half Life 2, Far Cry is just another generic FPS (albeit a really good one). I also heard that that Far Cry engine it's really unflexible and that it's editor is crap when it comes to indoor enviorments. The Half Life 2 engine supports all the latest graphical features down to the very last one, as much was seen in the videos. The fact that it's scalable only means you can strip the engine of most of it's graphical prowess in order to be able to run the game on older hardware, hence, the word 'scalable'. Everything is more important in a RPG then pretty graphics, and as far as first person shooters, i'd say Half Life 2 is the best suited to make an RPG out of it merely because the power of that engine doesn't focus on graphics alone... -

Not at all. We are not asking for big, empy barren land scapes and desolate cities, we are asking for bigger planets, how is that confusing ?!? -
I don't consider neither Outcast nor Accademy to be worthy titles in the Dark Forces series. I'm still waiting for the 'real' Jedi Knight 2...

I'd say we've seen enought of Half Life 2 to acknowledge it's existance. Frankly, i'd choose the Half Life 2 engine just because of the AI, the interactivity, the emergent scrypting and character/facial animation plus automated lip synching (a blessing for an RPG). Not to count it's flexibility and modding capability. I mean, the game already plays like a movie, it's perfect for a first person RPG. Unreal 3 has a nice rendering power, but Source is completely upgradable and will propably not look all that different by the time Unreal Engine 3 becomes viable with future hardware. Don't forget that Valve will develop Half Life 3 on the same engine, Source is a working in progress even as we speak... -
Can anybody explain to me how can you even see those Sith bombers ?!? THERE'S NO ILLUMINATION IN SPACE, you can't see anything. That has always been something that buffled me in every single Sci-fi movie...

I don't know, i thought it said you are a Jedi veteran of the Madalorian wars, as in, you are a Jedi who fought in the Mandalorian Wars, which doesn't necessarely mean you fought 'as' a Jedi. Furtheremore, didn't the council took your light saber ?!? And even so, how exactly do you fight 'as a Jedi' in an intergalactic war ?!? It's like saying the Japanise fought as 'samurai' in World War II There isn't a definite role for a Jedi in a futurist large scale conflict. Sure, the force can be useful in certain situations, but more often then not, a fully trained soldier will propably be far more useful as a unit in a technological warfare... -

Not necessarely. What if he was a combat pilot rather then an infantry grunt ?!? I mean, this is Star Wars, it's sci-fi, wars are fought with spaceships and gicantic walking command centers, rarely on foot. I bet infantry is mostly used for occupation, like the Sith did on Taris. And even then, he would have gained levels as a soldier, not a Jedi. Carth was a veteran soldier as well but he wasn't exactly very high level, nor was Canderous (agruably a 'true' veteran). Besides, don't forget that the leveling system created for D20 strives to mimic reality. A level one character is a professional. At level 5 you are a veteran. At level 10 you are already a figure of considerable proportion. In D&D a level 10 warrior is considered a warlord already, you can even have your own stronghold and soldiers under your command. If translated into the game, most of the great generals and warrios in our history aren't propably much highter then that. A level 20 character doesn't exist in the real world. Just because KOTOR allowed you to reatch legendary levels in a time span of a few months (which is a necessary evil for the purposes of the game i suppose), it doesn't mean all other characters can't follow the proper characterization, particularly has far as the story line is concerned. Take Jolee for instance. He was as old as anybody in the council, but he wasn't very high level when you meet him, certain characters don't even grow after a certain point (actually, as far as a i remeber Jolee even receded in power with age). Of course, such realism gets thrown out of the window once a character becomes playable, but what can you do... -

Who's ever said your character was any better of a Jedi then what you start at the beginning of the game ?!? The fact he/she fought in the Mandalorian war doesn't mean anything. Maybe he didn't forget how to use the force, maybe he wasn't any good at it in the first place... -
Don't bet on it. KOTOR didn't have basic interaction, let alone physics...

You were glad the game was short ?!? What ?!? o_O -
I just find the Star Trek universe more attractive to live in. Not being a Jedi in the Star Wars unirverse it's like being a blond hippie in a maximum security prison...
-
I'd rather be in Star Trek, thank you very much...

No...

I'm talking about the media and entartainment, the goverment will always scream about morality, and then do the exact opposite on a daily basis, that's a given...

So, how does this contest works ?!? How do you win ?!? I'm going to very happy about my 4 free copies of KOTORII, thank you... -
Yep, that's what i heard as well. Half Life 2 source is completely scalable and backwards compatible with older hard-ware. Indeed, you can even play the game on a TNT2, so it's possible i suppose...
-
God, this isn't going to be a trilogy, isn't it ?!?

Actually, the macabre is being screaming day and night, morality is just depasse this days...

That would also explain why certain cinematics were only partially skippable. Now, i don't mind unskippable cinematics, as long as they aren't placed right before a difficoult battle. Since apparently you can't make cinematics skippable, how about an autosave right after the cinematic ?!? That way we don't need to whatch the thing over if we get gang raped by the enemy, or save us the pains to try to save as quick as possible right after the cinematic ends. It wouldn't need to be done on all of them, just the most important ones. Either that, or just allow for some sort of delay beetween the cinematic and the beginning of a battle. Hell, could it be possible to save right during a cinematic ?!? Better yet, how about being able to go to the menu right in the middle of it ?!? (I hated when i couldn't reload a saved game during a cinematic). And since you are at it, how about being able to reatch the menu (or just quick load) right during the death cinematic ?!? I hated it that everytime i died i had to wait for the death animation to end and be transported automatically on the menu when all i wanted to do was hit quick load and try again... (god knows how many times i tried to quick load before the beginning of the death animation and freeze the game in the process... )

First of all, i was talking about the cinematics alone, not the games. Second of all, i'd say that Squere-Enix cinematix, far from being the finest of the planet, are nothing but an excercise in graphical technicality. Blizzard cinematics are much more involving. The intro for Brood War is still one of the greatest cinematics ever produced for a video game to date, including FF. BTW, since you brought the game itself on the table, what's so great about Final Fantasy anyway ?!? Never did figure that out...

Ok, here's what you need to do : 1) Remove cap 2) Remover respawnable enemies 3) Put a fixed amount of XP in the game to reatch a vistual, non fixed cap. Simple, really...
