  1. I believe you agree that your pledge is a donation. However, Obsidian entertainment has done several multi-million dollar titles, so it's just simply not feasible that they'll not make good on their promises. This isn't some fly by night company and Obsidian will have completely have destroyed their quite good reputation as an established business in the industry if they leave all of their backers in the dust. I don't think they'd get another contract from an established publisher again. That's my personal take. Maybe others have something to say.
  2. Okay, it's official. I put in enough for two decks of cards. One for me and one for someone else. Well played, you glorious bastards! Well played!
  3. Aw well, I guess I'll have to add enough for a couple of packs of cards. The funny thing is, while I've been thinking of stuff to gift folks, I'm going to keep a pack of those cards for myself, damn it. lol
  4. I went to church this morning. No one's gotten word to me about a memorial service for my dad, which I wouldn't attend anyway. ...But I take it, from the lack of communication, that I wouldn't be welcome either, which might seem sad, but it also takes away the burden of deciding whether or not to travel to Las Vegas. You know what's weird? I haven't told anyone in 'real life.' As little as I've said about it on this board, my friends here locally don't even know my dad is dead. I can't seem to bring it up. It's just this thing. Aw well, no more getting emo. Just observing how odd things like this are. I checked and got the okay to use my dad's name in lieu of mine for my pledge. I don't know that I'll ever visit his real grave, but at least I'll have a gravestone to visit in the game. I know I can't cite stuff from the real world, but I'm sure there's something I can put on the headstone to commemorate his life. As silly as it might seem, I'm actually comforted that I'll be able to start up the game and visit my dad. Enough from me. I'd like to say, one last time, how much I appreciate the thoughts and prayers from you guys, both the people who responded in my thread and the folks who sent me PMs. I might have seemed a little short, but it's just because I didn't know what to say. It was still kind of you to send word.
  5. It's no biggie, Mal. We get older and eventually die. That's how the universe works. I appreciate everyone's answers. As it turns out, he stopped breathing about an hour ago and the hospice workers arrive and verified that he's dead just a few minutes ago according to the texts. There wouldn't have been time to drive there before it happened anyway by the time I could have left. Mods, feel free to close this thread.
  6. Many thanks. Always hard to express the complexity of our relationships with our families, isn't it? Always good to hear from a friend.
  7. Vailian... I've always thought the reason they're city states and Italian sounding names in a game set in the renascence was kind of a give. That will leave a lot of room for layers of intrigue.
  8. I say it's wine, C2B. You should see him when he hits the hard stuff. lol :Cant's guffawing icon: Seriously, I just don't want it so morally cleansed that actions have no meaning at all. EDIT: If you ever make it to So Cal, Monte, I'm buying you a beer. hehe
  9. From my play of New Vegas, I think Obsidian can do it the right way. If they use the same philosophy, then Monte can be a bastard, I can be a goody two shoes, and folks will respond to each of us accordingly without overtly saying who's good or bad.
  10. I'm not even remotely interested in realism. If I want that I can go to work or wander up the road. I want to play a larger-than-life character, and if that means an archetypical villain then so be it. Am not interested in woolly, muesli-eating BS about relativity, TBH. Why exactly do you play Obsidian games then? To be clear, are you suggesting that the NPCs, from a rural midwife to a joinable wizard, won't have clear ideas of good and evil? Some might take a more philosophical view. Others will absolutely *know* what is good and evil. As concepts, good and evil exist and will need to be addressed within the game.
  11. Yes, but society itself treats different actions as either good or evil. I certainly understand the argument that good and evil are subjective. However, go cap a police officer and see how many people want to execute you for your 'evil' actions. Just because you can make arguments about good or evil regarding theoretical situations doesn't mean that the people populating the game will completely abandon the idea of good and evil and the vast majority of them will believe that they, personally, know the difference at a glance.
  12. *sigh* I think that answer is good enough for what it is, but the people will certainly believe in good and evil, even if the design team doesn't approach it from that view. I hope they at least recognize that the concepts of good and evil are huge driving forces behind how people act. Now I need a glass of claret, but I don't have any. Maybe burgundy later.
  13. ...And my estimation of you increases daily, my good man.
  14. Monte's playing play by play. Who's going to be color commentary?
  15. Well, I updated my pledge to the utmost I can throw into the pot. I'm seriously hoping that obsidz can make the final stretch goal. I think it's possible if folks keep pushing and urging friends to do the same.
  16. I don't know. I would normally not even think about bugging you guys, but if you do another open door during production, I might come over. Last time I was there, I left feeling like I'd been a bit churlish. What I'd like to do if I get the chance again is do what I was too proud and stiff to do last time... walk up, shake your hands, say thank you for the, literally, hundreds of happy gaming hours you've provided me. I didn't want to look like a fawning fanboy before, but why the hell not? I love your work and I am, indeed, a fanboy.
  17. I know it's pathetic to ask this here. Aw well, here goes: I'm estranged from my family. I've refused to talk to them for years. I have one cousin who sends me information about what's happening in texts to which I don't respond. My dad has been sick for years. Now, I don't care about most of my family, but I love my dad and miss him. He's been in hospice for a couple of months and now they've taken him off of all his medicine this morning and put him on a morphine drip. They anticipate he'll die within the next several hours to maybe a week as of the time I received the texts a few hours ago. How silly and frivolous would it be to make my Project Eternity pledge in his name and have his information used for everything associated with the pledge tier? I don't know. I feel stupid even asking, but you guys are gamers and some of you have been coming here for years.
  18. At least we're picking up steam. If we don't pick up enough to make, thems the breaks, but we might. Keep exhorting friends to buy in. Be like the Chanter class and use your charm and personal charisma to get folks on board. Come on guys!
  19. I can't put to words how impressed, and the ways I'm impressed, by Honest Hearts. I just finished and I sat looking at my screen after the summation. It is the story of redemption. It isn't a great gaming experience. It's a great literary experience. I actually found it personally moving. Games are not just entertainment. They are art. EDIT: well... I finished it about a half hour ago or something like that. I lose track of time sometimes this late at night. I wonder why. lol
  20. I love new Vegas. I was particularly impressed by Honest Hearts. I've spent over 250 hours playing New Vegas and it's the primary reason I'm supporting this project. I urge you all to do the same. EDIT: Cleared up some of my rambling. Must. not. post. after. midnight.
  21. Moreover, slavery exists today. Slavery is a long standing institution in the world. I despise it, of course, and not for politically correct reasons but because I believe every human being should be free. In fact, my reasons are, in my country, quite contrary to politically correct arguments. However, slavery has been a scourge on the earth since before recorded history. ...and, before someone brings up the Romans and talks about how they treated their slaves differently, I'll answer that straight away. Nonsense. yes, some slaves in some places were treated differently than others. However, that was true in colonial and early Republic America also. Slaves could aspire to find some easy servitude, but an awful lot of them ended up in salt mines or the like. Slavery has been an ugly experience for humans of every color, stripe, and ethinicity imposed by people of every color, stripe, and region. Now, what they do with slavery and how they have the NPCs defend the practice, or if they even feel the need to have folks defend it, is another matter. howver, I will point out that agitation against slavery is as ancient as the practice itself EDIT: SOrry, missed a few posts after a few glasses.
  22. I want to see the project make 3.5 mil. Hell, I'd like to see it hit 10 mil. ...But I don't really care about the megacity. Really, it's cool, but I'm just as happy to see Obsidz do what they think will work best.
  23. And vocals count as music, right? I mean, singing isn't acting. Acting requires a different set of skills. Soooo, you're going to use actual performers? :Cant's **** eating grin icon: ...And Sister is going to sing? I was in madrigals in high school and college... years ago. I sing in my church choir. I was in the choir in basic training in the Navy. Ummm..... I'll sing really soflty? :Cant's shifty eyed desperate smile icon: I promise not to get in the way of the real talent? lol I kid I kid. I wouldn't dream of dragging down the effort with my sad attempts. I want the quality to be good. EDIT: Hey, there's an idea. Create a thread for folks to post samples of their performing skills. hehe That could be entertaining in and of itself. ...And I'm joking, but I would have great respect for folks who're willing to put themselves out there for an effort like this. Might take up a lot of space for the video and audio files, though.
  24. Any word on live performers, Justin? If that's been answered already, then I apologize, but I haven't seen it yet. Maybe my poor reading skills, but I'm curious if you guys have made a decision or if you're putting off the decision until after the Kickstarter campaign, which might be wise at any rate.
