In real life, I tend to be a bit of a confronter about stuff. I mean, I try to be respectful, and I certainly try to be good about listening to what the other person has to say, but I find it's easier just to get it all out in the open and address these situations. This is something much more difficult to do on a message board. Been plugging away at my New Vegas run. I've just added Raul to my party. Poor ol' ghoulish wretch. I'm trying to remember what I need to do to get his side quest so I can do it. After that, I'll add Arcade and keep him till I've done his side quest and, having done all the companions' side quests, I'll go back to Boone until the end. I mean, he gets special points for sheer Legion hatred and I can make him my liason with the NCR after I've set up an independent New Vegas.

For some reason that just strikes me as sooooo.... dirty. Anyway, regarding your GW comment, ya bastard, I have to say that the way the models work in Warhammer, oversized weapons, armor, and doo-dads have the practical side-effect of letting the players know who's more powerful. Aw hell, I guess that isn't even always true. The good thing is, last I heard they weren't going to do over the top stupid looking weapons and armor. As far as the tier thing goes, I think the important thing is to make it intricate (and complicated) enough to provide a robust experience for folks during character building, but still simple enough to be intuitive. It's all beyond me, of course, but I can understand tier system and it seems to suffice.

In New Vegas, I had good excuses and even perks that made my use of lighter armors more sensible in certain situations. I didn't need to have any '+1' non-sense. Of course, something like riot gear could become 'elite' riot gear, and that extra descriptive *must* reflect in the game, but otherwise I could just pick up the armor and look at how it bumped up my stats. If you're that transparent, then it should never be difficult for a player to know which armor is better for which situation. It will undoubtedly be difficult sometimes to decide which stats are more important or which abilities the player wants to augment and which abilities he wants to preserve. In terms of realism vs nostalgia, I think the big winner should always be vision and fun. I don't care if it's entirely supported by historical precedent (although 'verisimilitude' is always vital), and I don't care about nostalgia in terms of the armor and weapons at all, but I do want it all to be sensible and add to the game. What I don't want are ridiculously oversized swords or insane looking armor that the wearer should be required to make a saving throw every time he dons it to make sure he didn't castrate himself in the process. Nice update, though. Mostly, though I take it as a good sign that you're getting down to the nitty gritty and clearly you're a hell of a lot more intelligent than me, so I'll trust you to sort it. Grats on the kid, Mr. Monahan. EDIT: I was just thinking, maybe there should be a time when 'elite' riot gear isn't as good as regular riot gear. I think descriptives *must* make sense, but I guess not always in every way you'd expect. There's never any other hard fast rule that works, is there? :Cant's sheepish grin icon:

That's fair enough, Gfted. I'm not going to the ceremony, but I did write something for the service that's going to be part of the eulogy. It's going through back channels. At any rate, I appreciate your honest and direct criticism. As far as today goes, I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I need to regroup and get myself back on the straight and narrow. I do love this time of year, though. Mornings are supposed to be cool and even now, at 10:30, it's still only about 60 degrees outside.

MASH Frasier LOST Scrubs How I met your Mother Twilight Zone and for Seventh, I would say Firfly. I still get pissed off that they cancelled it after one ****ing seaxon.

Made Turkey breast, carrots, and potatoes for dinner tonight. Good stuff. I rather like turkey and I make it every now and then, although I tend to prefer to make whole turkey and I brine them first. It takes up a lot of space in the freezer and fridge, so I don't do it often, but if you've never had my brined turkey dinner, you're really missing something. Anyhow, been feeling rough lately, so no stuffing or brown gravy. :Cant's sad icon: ...But it was still good. Anyway, now I'm plugging away on my trusty New Vegas run. My dad's memorial service is scheduled for the Fifth of next month. He's dead, though, and I don't care to see the rest of the wretched bastards, from my mom down to my nephews. I'll have to honor him in my own way because I refuse to see any of those mother-****ers ever again. EDIT: ...And I have a young Claret down and switching now calling a young cab.

I can tell the difference between some items, but I'm never sure if it's because it's organic or because it's local and fresher or just the brand is better. Typically, if I'm trying to impress someone with my home cooked meal, I'm willing to purchase better ingredience, even if there are times when I can't really see the difference. I think the brand of organic milk I get is better, and I tend to buy it most often. In terms of produce, fresh stuff from the local farmers market is better in my opinion. ...But most of the time I just grab what's handy and use that. I cook a lot. For you guys, if we ever had an Osbidian block party, I'd make a couple of my homemade bulgogi pizzas from scratch. lol How's that for fusion cuisine. hehe
-
You know what's funny as regards fruits and veggies at the grocery. I do the vast majority of the shopping and I was picking through the fruit one day when the produce manager comes up and shakes my hand and tells me that he sometimes thinks that I single handedly keep the produce section in business. lol Pure hyperbole, but I do buy a ton of fresh fruit and vegetables. Of couse you know, Tig, that frozen fruit is often better than fresh stuff depending on from how far away the produce is shipped. I mean, the fresh stuff invariably tastes better, but frozen stuff tends to retain its dietary benefits quite well. That said, I use fresh everything as much as possible and, living in California, I can get a lot of the stuff from local markets and the like. EDIT: Sorry, been lazing around the house watching tv with the wife and playing my current game of New Vegas. The Brotherhood of Steel story always depresses me.

Update #28: What We're Up To
Cantousent replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Frisk's answer makes a lot of sense. On top of that, keep in mind that they have between 70-80 thousand backers. So, all of the things Frisk mentioned times thousands of backs means it might take just a little while to sort.- 189 replies

Good luck with the Giant's game, guys. Judging from the last three, I don't think it should be any problem, but it ain't over til it's over, as they say. So, while you wait in frenzied anticipation, have a beer and a dog for me. I just got up. We did everything we needed to do yesterday and today I slept in to get over whatever mugunga virus has been kicking my backside lately.

I bring up Blizzard because this is a thread about Blizzard. I've never had to ditch an account because of spam and it's not like I'm going to ditch any of the ones I have now. With that said, fair enough. I'll concede that maybe it really is my fault that I'm getting Blizzard spam. :Cant's shrug icon: As far as Blizzard goes, I've spent more time talking in this thread about them than I've spent playing any of their games since... August? It might be July. I think the problem with Diablo 3, apart from the things I mentioned in my first post, is that they intentionally made it so you had to grind in order to get to the real challenge. There's nothing like having to pound your way through relatively boring and easy enemies, and a lot of them, just to get to the fun abilities and more interesting and difficult enemies.

Look, I'm not trying to insult you, TN, but I simply can't understand why you're being snarky about this. In all the years I've been working with computers, I've never had a single virus. I've never had an email, game, or social media account hacked. I've never had any problems with online order or any other sort of thing. I did have someone at a utility company take a hard copy of one of my checks and use it to steal money from my checking account once, but that wasn't exactly high tech. Maybe you can say that the blame for spam emails resides entirely with me, but it just smells of a Blizzard apologist getting in a bit of a bunch because I said something critical of the company. ...But, and this is what makes it so strange, I never blamed Blizzard in the first place. Even my first post wasn't critical of Blizzard. I was voicing frustration with the Blizzard related spam emails, but I don't blame Blizzard because some numbnuts in China wants to try to hack my account. I mean, you can take the next fifty pages to respond, I guess, and that's your right. I'm not going to complain, but I don't think we really have a beef with one another. I'm saying, without rancor, that just because you haven't had spam emails regarding Blizzard doesn't mean that I'm at fault for the ones I get. Let me tell you, I get virtually no spam in my personal email account *except* for fake Blizzard emails. If it's my fault, my fault is extremely selective.
-
Why even bother watching the game? The Giants are winning this series in a walk. Geez, you'd like them to make a series out of it. Anyhow, I just got back home and I'm beat as hell. I'm taking a nap before I go to church tonight.

Did you not read that Gorth hasn't had any of the games and still gets the spam emails? Look, I don't want to get into a fifty page spam war over this, but your personal experiences are useful in informing your views, but really don't reflect on a larger reality as a whole. I have different accounts for different things. I have a shared email account with my wife that gets household related things but also gets spam. I have a personal email account that is virtually spam free. I get spam emails regarding World of Warcraft and Diablo 3 on both accounts, even though the shared account has never had a Blizzard game associated with it at all. Moreover, TN, I've already said that I don't blame Blizzard for the spam emails and the hackers. On the other hand, since these guys seem pretty dogged and determined to spam me regarding Blizzard games, it's still part of a larger discussion as far as I'm concerned. So, you have all Blizzard games and have never had a spam email regarding them. Good for you. Blaming someone else for spam emails when he hasn't shared any information about them with others? Not good. After all, how did Gorth share information about accounts he's never had? At any rate, I've had Blizzard account for two games for many years and, while I get spam emails regarding them, I have never had my accounts hacked in all that time. I must not be sharing particularly vital information.

Update #28: What We're Up To
Cantousent replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Yeah, Rob always struck me as pretty calm and decent sort of guy. I don't know if Obsidz will do this, but we're getting our updates right now from the big wigs. I think folks like the access. They might want to do what Monte suggests, and you seem to agree, and cultivate someone to be the community manager for P.E. They'll have to start getting him in on the act with these updates to give him some street cred, and they need not use an unpaid intern. They might want to do that, and it would be a great experience for the intern, but if there's someone who can multi-task well enough, and can shoulder the extra duty, they also might want to let someone else run it. Rob was part of the Obsidian in house QA team. He had enough time to develop a great rapport with the community. Someone like that, who has some history with Obsidian, could really have a lot of fun with the community and also serve an important role. After all, the backers are here to stay. The members of this forum will require some handling, wrangling, and herding. The person in charge of that isn't just trying to placate the whiners. He (or she) needs to have a delicate touch for delicate issues, a firm touch where a little force is necessary, finesse in dealing with a wide variety of personalities, and be able to remain sane. They can't just shove someone into the job who resents, mocks, or otherwise discards the community out of hand. The more I think of what Monte said, the more I realize how important a community manager is for a project started on Kickstarter. I don't agree that backing the game allows for crazy-assed demands, but I do think that the Project Eternity backers deserve some consideration. The good news is, from what I've seen so far, Obsidian feels the same way.- 189 replies

Oregon is a beautiful state, both the coast and the high desert. I've lived in several states and been to at least 35 of them. Of course, I fancy my native Nevada to any of them. :Cant's **** eating grin icon: Anyhow, the wife is attending a wedding tonight and I didn't go so I stopped by the store to pick up some sour dough rolls. I started some St. Louis style ribs in the crock pot this morning, so I plan on pulled pork sandwhiches and cole slaw. I normally wouldn't drink tonight, but I'm home alone, so I also picked up some sake and a bottle of zinfandel. I plan on having the sake on the rocks, and I rarely dirnk it, so I'll have it first so I can actually taste it. mmm MMM MMMMM

I was changing the sound a couple days ago and realized I'd started my current run on hard. Combat hasn't been too terribly difficult, but I have to say that I found a couple of things notable about the dlc. First of all, it's hard to sneak. With a maxed sneak and even using a stealthboy and other sneak enhancing stuff, things see you out way farther than in the main title. The other thing is that, since things see you out so far, it's harder (not impossible, just harder) to get great head-shot criticals. However, I'm level 40-something in this run, and I'm still using a sniper variant and a laser rifle variant from OWB. Great goodies in OWB. If you can manage to get some of the good stuff, one of which isn't too terribly far from the sink, then those horrid scorpions won't be so tough after all. I just don't see how lobotomites can have such high perceptions. Sheesh.

Update #28: What We're Up To
Cantousent replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I think Rob McGuinness (and I know I just murdered his name) used to be kind of the unoffiicial community manager for NWN2. If that's true, then there's precedent for Obsidz doing exactly what Monte mentioned. Now that I understand, in the clear light of morning, it makes sense. I was just sticking up for Fio, but the big scaly bastard doesn't need *my* help. lol- 189 replies
