New Oblivion Review - 93%
wait & see it don't hurt us at all to wait until after the first patch is released before we purchase. by then we gets a pretty good notion of quality of game, and if we does decide to purchase we gets a much more stable app. our biggest concern: crappy writing. fom the tiny bits we has seen/heard, oblivion writing is just as bad as morrowind writings. however, is unfair for us to judge based on the small 'mounts we has seen. even so, what little we has witnessed is 'nuff to make us concerned. *shrug* we make it a point not to buy any game on day 1. you is asking for trouble in so doing. wait for a week or two and get feedbacks from the guniea pigs w/o no impulse control.... watch and sees if they gets electrocuted or gets a food pellet before you commit. HA! Good Fun!

nobel created an explosive that were used by others to blow up people. in the most simple terms, haber invented gas warfare for the purpose of killing enemies of germany. you not see a difference? is not like haber were simply a man o

I need some Sci-Fi suggestions
ok, you is gonna see lots of heinlein, assimov, herbert and clarke on a sci-fi recommendation list. also you gets a healthy dose of pkd. aldous huxley's "brave new world" almost always gets a nod or two. hg wells may get a mention. douglas adams is a geekling fave so he too almost always gets "mad props." unfortunately, some folks we rarely see mentioned, but should be at top of list rather than afterthoughts. kurt vonnegut: numerous sci-fi short stories as well as "the sirens of titan" richard matheson: ever seen that terrible charlie heston film called "omega man," or some such? is based on a matheson novel called, "i am legend." "the shrinking man" is maybe even better. Gromnir ain't really a fan of horror, but matheson does a good job combining horror and sci-fi. ursula k. leguin: am not sure why she ain't mentioned in same breath with heinlein and assimov and clarke. is clearly an oversight. at the very least, every sci-fi fan should give "the left hand of darkness," and "the lathe of heaven" a shot. alfred bester: "the stars my destination" & " the demolished man" are both in Gromnir's top 20 sci-fi/fantasy books... evar. walter m. miller jr.: "a canticle for leibowitz" is one of those rare sci-fi books that gets honest praise from mainstream critics and scholars. there is a sequel to canticle, but as we ain't read it we cannot recommend. joe haldeman: tarna already mentioned, but we can only recommend "forever war" as we thought "forever peace" and "tools of the trade" were uninspired... but "forever war" is fantastic even so. roger zelazny: yeah, we know that zelazny were a fantasy author, but we thinks his best novel were, "lord of light." gene wolfe: anything and everything by gene wolfe. however, wolfe does challenge his readers and not all of us wanna be so challenged. if you not wanna have to reread a few pages on occasion to be making sure you understood wtf just happened, then wolfe may not be your cup o' tea. however, "knight" & "wizard" is fantasy books recently written by wolfe that is some of the most accessible works we ever read by wolfe. one for the fringe

Slobodan Milosevic dead
"So the titles like "bootcher of the balkans is dead" merely bring out a bitter-sweet smile on my face." the "butcher of the balkans" label were a translation mistake. should actually read as follows: "the fluffy bunny of the balkans is dead." sorry for the confusion. nevertheless, in the future we will simply note that A butcher of the balkans died... as 'posed to THE butcher of the balkans. everybody feel better now? HA! Good Fun!

Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing. Btw, you've probably seen this, but apparently there's a short film in postproduction: http://www.haberfilm.org. I won't be surprised to see a major studio biopic in the next decade. Good luck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> haber is a tough subject for hollywood... too many political issues to be real mainstream. dr. william shockley is another one of our favorite villains.... thinks of Homer Stokes from "O' Brother, Where Art Thou?" and you gotta general notion. HA! Good Fun!

You've mentioned Haber before, and it's sparked my interest. Pardon me if I'm too bold, but did you ever finish your Haber biography? Or did you abandon the project in the wake of the Daniel Charles publication? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> the charles book were an interesting read, but far too generous to its subject. Gromnir ain't gonna try to come up with excuses and rationales for haber's actions... and while our bio might end up being less juicy, we feels compelled to devote at least some effort to explaining haber's science. not abandon project... and not finished neither. got lots of shoeboxes filled with note cards and a pretty extensive outline. unfortunately, our interviews with various german personages is over a decade old now, and even our caltech and berkeley stuff is getting a bit dated. sadly, just about everbody who knew haber in rl is now dead. *shrug* is something we pulls out and putters with when the spirit moves us... will probably take us another decade to finish at this rate. am believing that haber is somebody folks will become more familiar with in the years to come. nitrogen-based fertilizers, while essential to support a human population in the billions, is leading to numerous environmental problems that we is gonna have to contend with. HA! Good Fun!

New NWN 2 Article @ Computer Gaming mag
there were a playoff game v. the 49rs in which jim everett, the rams qb, looked spooked. got sacked a bunch of times, and even appeared to curl up into fetal positin once or twice when a defender weren't actually close to sacking him. jim rome, a socal punk radio guy who managed to get himself a tv gig, decides to give jim everett a new nickname: chris everet. chrissy were a famous female tennis star... in case you didn't know. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/jimeverett.html HA! MCA does the 'Codex
"Yes, I know that it is rather an exception to the rule but still." "but still" what? how many years did we have to listen to vis telling us he would make a REAL nwn module? this kinda thing by vd ain't an exception. sees something like this at almost every board. some joker, or group of jokers, claims they is gonna Do It Right. sometimes they even slap something together... but such masterpieces rarely meets light of day. "While Volourn's and the regular Codexer's (whatever that is) views may vary they both have the same tendency to frenzy when it comes to defending their pet topics (that is Bioware and Troika). " then how can you disagree with Gromnir? its vol v. codexers. sure, he is a regular and sure he spits and fumes likes the most rabid codexer, but he is not one of the codexers. as we recall, the admin hung some sorta "retarded" label on his account... not sure if it is still there. so where is it you disagree with Gromnir? "Sometimes you have to stand up for what you believe." yeah, they stand up and fight each other all day long. ... clowns. am not sure how anybody coud come away from codex w/o chuckling. is maybe lowbrow humor, but is funny even so. HA! Good Fun!

Chris Avellone <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why the hell does he call himself MCA? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i dont think he does, we do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you could do a jim rome thing and simply calls him chrissy. ... that were a sports reference in case most of you physically retarded trogs didn't get it. the lack o' profanity and greater control in this place not seem to be a notable difference to you? however we thinks you did fail to note that the codex posters tends to be a bit more homgenized than the posters at obsidian. folks like vol and taks, while being occasional posters at codex, is clearly outsiders who is threatening the accepted groupthink. bad vol. bad taks. in any event, codex presents self as a news site... and if you suggest they got some kinda bias they go nutters. this ain' a news site. the folks who run this site don't pretend like they is presenting the unvarnished truth to the nerdling masses. is no institutional arrogance whereby the admin makes clear that they is having a monopoly on the truth... save for maybe when josh is posting. is posters on this board acting like they alone recognize the Word of God? yup, but those posters ain't pretending to be anything other than simply message board geeklings. folks who run codex is hypocrites... but amusing hypocrites. HA! Good Fun!

MCA does the 'Codex
have been busy, but we gotta make time to get back to codex. recently vd were explaining to us how "most people," in context of a fallout 3 discussion, Obviously were meaning (and were limited to,) fans of fallout 1. tried to explain that if "most people" actually is limited to fans of fallout 1 then bethesda is in for some serious financial problems, but vd and the other codexians weren't listening. codexians somehow sees self as the Moral Majority meets the PLO... they believes that they stand for all that is good and right in games (whether the rest of us simpletons get it or not,) and they is gonna use whatever profane, obscene or insane means necessary to be fighting the good fight. the thing is, they honestly does selves a disservice by being so insular/inbred. Fight the Dominant Paradigm kinda stuff is somewhat pointless if you only does your fighting on your own friggn' boards. clowns. if we thought fergie were cunning 'nuff to come up with such a notion on his own, we mighta' come to conclusion that he created codex as an attractive alternative board for all the fallout fanatics/loons that he really didn't want stinking up the interplay boards. but keeps in mind that we too thinks that the codex is a hoot, and if they didn't exist we would have to create 'em. HA! Good Fun!

Wot, no Tolkein?
ther is no mention of pointy ears in lotr. that is the thing 'bout lotr... tolkien describes physical aspects of elves and dwarves and orcs n' such very little. he gets credit for inventing, but recognize at least that without no physical dscription offered by tolkien, his readers seemed to come to similar conclusions 'bout those appearances nevertheless... 'cuse as tolkien expected, those things were already part of the collective mythology o' english speakers. HA! Good Fun!

what PC do you use?
did Gromnir mention that he dislikes viewsonic? have had some bad experience with viewsonic monitors not purchased by Gromnir. even so, our architect/gaming friend told us that we couldn't go wrong with a g90fb for a 19" monitor. we took her advice... reluctantly. is a great monitor... best we ever had. so then more recent we ask her 'bout 21" crt monitors. sure 'nuff she tells us that not only does she see some of best performance from the viewsonic g220fb, but it happens to be cheaper and lighter than most other 21" monitors. sure, there is some professional class monitors for $1000+, but for gaming use she not thinks that there is a better option available. ... nec fe2111sb is what we got now, but we wants a second 21" and am not sure if we would buy a second nec... is an ok monitor, but nothing spectacular. in particular, we gots some complaints 'bout color sharpness. another viewsonic? HA! Good Fun!

Mythic structure in RPGs/video games in general
Sorry, it was Chris Avellone. Wikipedia shows Sawyer as being lead designer and my personal copy of Torment was smashed in an accident. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *nods* some of your posts make more sense now. advice: never rely solely on a single internet source as such knowledge tends to be counterfited and is often of dubious accuracy.
