  1. How ****ing out of touch with reality are you Bruce, Jesus ****ing Christ... seemed as if bruce were making a funny... which if true makes it seem as if longknife is the one actual divorced from reality. HA! Good Fun!
  2. PoE. Chris wanted to take a different diraction with the game. Though these are only rumors, so they might be completely wrong. some clown on a random crpg site speculates and it becomes a rumor. *snort* truth is that chrisA were tired of cain and feargus stealing his hummus from the obsidian breakroom fridge. HA! Good Fun!
  3. fyi, confirming AFTER some guy has announced on his twitter account is hardly a scoop. just sayin. good luck to chrisA. so long, and thanks for all the fish. HA! Good Fun!
  4. load up on consumables before battle. *shrug* best options for Gromnir has been mind plague and scrolls o' paralysis. hiravias can cast petrify, but so too can some o' those ads, which comes in handy when they is dominated or confused. happen to hit dragon with mind plague and it will blast the ads instead o' you. and even a graze from a paralysis scroll gives a couple seconds breathing space during which you can stack on debuffs. we typical got multiple characters that is able to cast from scrolls. that being said, the dragon breath, particular if you got bad luck with rolls, can serious hurt. stick a second chance armour on durance jic. when he auto-revives, he can then revive other party mates via spell. HA! Good Fun!
  5. I do. I like The Rock, but there can only be one Jack Burton. dunno. seems to Gromnir that for an over-the-top role that is all 'bout the camp, a former pro wrestler strikes us as perfect. dwayne might actual take himself too serious as an actor these days to do proper justice. is there a young roddy piper around? HA! Good Fun!
  6. woulda' assumed we would get nick fury as our #1, but apparently black widow edged him by 2%. we do have stereoscopic vision and a good bum, so perhaps that would explain. even so, w/o a moon knight option, we don't see any avengers with whom we would natural identify. HA! Good Fun!
  7. political correctness actual promotes that which it is meant to eradicate. "racist," "sexist," and other similar labels is so emotional charged that the accusation alone puts folks on the defensive. well, guess what, people don't like being accused o' something they cannot actual defend 'gainst. call somebody a racist and what can they possibly say in defense? no doubt we has all heard variations o' this meaningless chestnut, eh? "i have lots of black friends." lordy. is such an utter lame response, but what is the alternatives? can't disprove racism or sexism with words. only your actions can speak to your character in such situations. the accused is utter helpless to make any kind o' meaningful or compelling counter to the claim o' the vile character flaw in question. not surprising, the folks accused o' bigotry o' some variation is gonna be displeased at the lack o' fairness o' their predicament. displeasure and anger is close cousins. who is gonna be the target o' the anger? the accuser, yes? so, how many times does some ordinary and ignorant shnook get accused o' racism, sexism and homophobia by puerto-rican lesbians before the guy decides that he doesn't very much like lesbians or puerto ricans or women for that matter? thanks to political correctness, the vile labels slip more easily from the mouths o' angry minorities, women, homosexuals and naive undergrads who thinks a couple years o' University has made them enlightened. thanks to political correctness, there is no immediate defense to the accusations o' minorities, women, homosexuals and jumped-up college students with delusions o' clarity. is a cycle that polarizes. not liking hip-hop or defending cops is racist. observe that women do not typical have the same upper body strength as men is sexist. repeat numbers from reputable scientific studies that show that USA homosexual population is less than 5% is homophobic. keep accusing folks o' terrible evils that they cannot defend selves from is creating more anger and hate. HA! Good Fun!
  8. there is a difference 'tween a phobia and a fear, no? people who is suggesting that the genesis poster's fears ain't reasonable is kinda stating the obvious. see a black widow spider hanging from your rear-view mirror startles you into momentary panic? am doubting that counts as arachnophobia. by definition we are speaking of unreasonable and pathological fears with extreme reactions. "get over it" is likely not an option for the sufferer. that being said, any kinda expectation that a computer game would needs be tailored to cater to those with real but unreasonable fears is, well, unreasonable. *shrug* as we noted above, we thought this were gonna be an appeal for all-spiders. as an aside, poe were being touted as an homage to the ie games. the ie games had more than a few spiders. also, the beta had spiders in abundance. given the ie legacy nature o' the game and the actual presence o' arachnids in the beta, one cannot claim surprise, yes? there is crpgs with no spiders or less spiders-- gaming alternatives for the arachnophobic crpg fan already exist. am not being cold or flippant when we suggest that the genesis poster should try one o' those other crpgs. HA! Good Fun!
  9. It is very annoying I agree, but to stop playing the game till it gets fixed is a bit harsh. Still to each their own I guess. am personally such a compulsive pauser (pauser?) that this bug is, for the most part, a non factor. that being said, for people who prefer auto-pilot features, we could see how their party npcs being transformed into ornamental topiary during combat might be discouraging enough to halt play. HA! Good Fun!
  10. lord knows we got no idea what is actual giving you pleasure, particularly in games. we were hardly the only confused personage by the fan appeals for Kill XP... though the release o' the game would appear to have almost complete silenced the kill xp complainants. as you is happy for obsidian success, you might take joy in discovering that a few o' your more vocal and ardent fellows demanding kill xp were actual enjoying the raedric hold portion o' the game, which is a particular noteworthy locale as save for some dungeons portion o' locale, virtual all combats were 'gainst kith and yielded 0 xp per corpse. 'course, to be fair, most such folks still found reasons to hate poe, but the kill xp claims were silenced with the granting o' the token. huzzah. that being said, we did see as a joke on Gromnir and those who did play the game that gifted1 would gets his "positive" change from the obsidians and still not wanna play the release. there is a kinda irony, no? even so, what we quoted were as follows: " And last laugh? Im not sure what that means. Im pumped that PoE is a success for Obs but I cant do anything about bugs." okie dokie. last sentence is just a complete mess, but am guessing you kinda clarified what were your actual meaning.... sorta. regardless, the actual point were that extended play o' the poe beta were more than fair and reasonable cause to be convincing a potential purchaser or player that the release would be entertaining... or that it would likely fail to entertain. good on you, though incremental less good with each querulous post. HA! Good Fun!
  11. right back at you... got no idea what your final statement references. regardless, gifted1 didn't like poe based on his beta play in spite o' getting the largely token changes he were asking for. so, hardy har har. kinda missing forest for the trees in any event. in spite o' his irrationalities and inconsistencies, gited1 choosing not to play the release version based on his beta experience is curiously reasonable. *zoom* went right past ya? HA! Good Fun!
  12. duno. there were any number o' odd aura bugs, but have never heard of zealous focus inhibiting faith & convictions. IF zealous focus were the problem, simple disabling might not be enough to clear the problem. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/76862-i-found-a-new-way-to-fix-the-rogues-reckless-assault-stacking-bug/?p=1651130 link contains a fix that works for many modal problems, but your issue appears different as it ain't stacking related, yes? HA! Good Fun!
  13. sorcerer wasn't a bg class. (edit: ah, we see clarification via edit) compare to admittedly broken bg joinable npcs? poe companion value is not bolstered or diminished by comparison to bg options. HA! Good Fun!
  14. summer finally arrived in the sacramento valley, so we spent the day obstinately refusing to turn on our AC. we win? is actual not that hot with a high temp in the mid nineties and negligible humidity, but the area temps has been unseasonably mild thus far in 2015 and Gromnir has seemingly become a bit o' a wimp such that ~94 degrees is too much for our delicate constitution. tomorrow is 'posed to reach 103. HA! Good Fun!
  15. oh boy here we go.... Not even trying the full game because of a beta? Hate to be rude but this is pretty ignorant imo. I can't remember how many times over the years I have tried a beta or alpha and it was average, only to try the full version and its fantastic. Sounds like you are deluding yourself or just outright lying. Apart from polish, there's probably 5% difference between a beta and final. between beta and full release, there is a good amount that is different... and in some ways the differences were not good or expected. heck, pervasive stacking bug were new with the release version o' the game. never had a problem with reckless assault during the beta. also, we weren't able to over-level in the beta as is possible in the full game. that being said, as much as we disagree with more than a few o' gited1's frequent irrationalities, am thinking it were perfectly fair and reasonable for him to forgo poe based on the beta. yeah, the developers has made many post release balance adjustments-- some good and some bad. and heck, you got gifted1 mostly to blame for the addition o' flames o' devotion... freaking all the unnecessary balancing, rebalancing and bugs related to flames o' devotion got their origin with gifted's mewling desire for the poe paladin to have an ie analog to holy smite and he don't even play the actual game? HA! good on him... last laugh is his. regardless, playing the beta for months, and seeing the kinda changes obsidian were willing to make were more than just a fair shot for poe. he didn't like the beta after months o' beta play? that is more than fair. differences 'tween beta and full is noteworthy, but folks like gifted1 got a reasonable clear notion o' poe from the beta. actual, we find gifted1 far more reasonable than the peoples who played the beta for months and genuine expected a complete different game at release. the people expecting a mystical day 1 transformation were/are the nutters, not gifted1. go figure. HA! Good Fun!
  16. of note, this feature does make more obvious that some o' the joinables has abilities that one cannot get from a premade. for example, kana has a free chant and eder has a free talent, which is less obvious unique features than is sagani's animal companion. hiravias shapechange is unique, but am admitting that we shape change him as little as possible. similarly, is more than a few boardies who were complaining that josh's paladin joinabale npc had a better unique ability than a player could create with the adventurers hall feature. etc. haven't ever considered before, but am suspecting that aloth, grieving mother and durance is the only joinables that ain't having unique abilities or talents... though we seems to recall that durance initial skills allocation is odd. not certain 'bout durance. HA! Good Fun!
  17. could still be a bug. our paladin is a wild orlan with cautious attack and zealous focus active. am knowing he has outworn buckler armed and the shame or glory sword, but honestly, we don't recall all his gear. we made certain that no active abilities or talents other than the aforementioned cautious attack were, well, active? 'course that not mean that a passive ability or piece o' gear you got ain't influencing different than are the abilities of Gromnir's paladin. *shrug* we are current with the most recent build via steam. HA! Good Fun!
  18. tested this jic. took a random save with a paladin pc. deflection were 109 before battle. faith and convictions boosted to 120 at start of battle. is working okie dokie for us with a zealous focus tank. HA! Good Fun!
  19. ... but alignment Doesn't alter how the joinables behave in bg save as to when they leave. change w/o change. have evil characters turn into squirrels and scamper away if reputation hits 18. maybe make companions blow up-- meaty chunk animation. would you continue to project personality onto the bg companions if we did not but change how the companions disappeared permanently and w/o discussion? would be kinda ridiculous to see as a personality boosting feature if edwin spontaneous combusted when the bhaalspawn's rep hit 18, yes? so why do you see any kinda depth 'cause edwin runs away at the same 18 threshold? alignment, the bg companion alignment, is nothing more than a label that is on the character record sheet. edwin didn't perform a single evil action while he were in our party... evar. HA! Good Fun!
  20. again, the reputation meter from bg ain't any kinda boon to personality or character development. evil companions all leave exact the same if you reach a certain reputation score. there is no deviation based on personality. companions leave based on their alignment and your rep, and companion alignment is displayed prominent on character record sheet. *shrug* HA! Good Fun! ps companions we might generate is done through multi-player functionality. for practical reasons, forcing fellow players in a mp game to leave the party 'cause o' reputation conflicts would be impractical. again, is not personality but a mindless mechanic response.
  21. based on the title alone, we thought this were gonna be an appeal for an all-spider version o' poe... which would actual be kinda funny. have all foe models be replaced with one o' the various spider or vithrack models. is likely not what the genesis poster wants, but is at least as funny as big-head mode, though considerable more work. HA! Good Fun!
  22. da:o were odd. the developers specific said they were going for more dark and mature than their previous titles... used battlestar galactica and game o' thrones books (this were before tv show) as known quantities to let folks know what the biowarians were aiming for. unfortunately, people were confused and disappointed. not only were the fans uncertain as to what bioware actual meant by "dark and mature," but a sizeable % o' respondents to the various threads made it clear that they played bioware titles specific 'cause they wanted the Fantasy. reality is a frequent unforgiving place where good folks find themselves with choices between lesser o' evils. all to often our choices is knowingly doomed from the start and the best we can do is to mitigate damage. the bioware fans (not all, but many) explained that they did not want hard choices and no-wins... they didn't want dark and mature save where "mature" referenced companion sex encounters and "dark" were a meaningful day/night cycle. Gromnir 'bout burst a blood vessel when Gaider assured the fans that da:o would be "dark, but not too dark." ... what the heck is "dark, but not too dark"? we still don't know. HA! Good Fun!
  23. which old games do the poe companions compare unfavorably to? surely not bg? bg companions, with one notable exception, were a catchphrase (or two) and their character record sheet. That's not true. They show their personality in other ways. For example, all the characters will leave your party depending on your reputation. Good characters leave when you're too evil, and evil characters leave when you're too good. Some also fight each other (such as Minsc vs. Edwin) as a way of displaying their personalities. reputation is a complete mechanical feature. does not bolster a "well-written" argument. furthermore, it weren't 'bout personality at all nor were it logical or reasonable. Gromnir, because his BG rep were invariably too high, would eventual need to attack an innocent bystander at some point to keeps evil or neutral members in our party. find a house with a single occupant... insular and discreet. then our paladin could murdalize the solitary occupant to keep edwin in party? conversely, we could always spend gold at the local temple to get rep up enough to keep neutral or goods from leaving. had nothing to do with personality. furthermore, why would an evil, selfish, backstabbing companion want evil, selfish, backstabbing companions? without a personal explanation, it makes no sense. recall what happened to viconia after bg and before bg2? is many bad people out there in the fantasy world, and evil people is likely to be knowing just how depraved and unreliable is evil 'cause they is evil themselves. so 'less we get an explanation, it would be making more sense for both good and evil folks to prefer the company o' good companions. yeah, maybe the evil folks consider their goodly party mates to be suckers, but evil is gonna know that goodly companions is less likely to do terrible things to them while they sleep. we never got explanations. regardless, a pure mechanical reputation slider that results in automatic abandonment at rep X is not revealing personality in any meaningful way... not to Gromnir. is surely not showing superior writing. HA! Good Fun!
  24. we much prefer companions that is memorable for what they do as 'posed to what they are. don't need to be a talking rainbow bear to be memorable. the poe companions, for better or worse in the final judgement o' the fan base, were less 'bout the gimmicks than previous obsidian offerings. am hopeful this trend continues. sure, the hook stuff is still there with the poe companions, but frequently, less is more. HA! Good Fun!
  25. which old games do the poe companions compare unfavorably to? surely not bg? bg companions, with one notable exception, were a catchphrase (or two) and their character record sheet. even ps:t had as many misses as hits... at least they were misses for Gromnir. what made annah memorable were shenna easton' voice acting as 'posed to writing, and chrisA throwing off cliché by giving us a mary magdalene, one o' the oldest and most over-used cliches in western lit, were kinda insulting. neither vhailor nor ignus were exactly high-water mark writing examples for black isle either. and motb? ack. is kinda our favorite punching bag for obsidian writing. the companions did not genuine exist beyond their hook. a womanizing playboy with mommy issues? *chuckle* make gann a hagspawn with a ravel incarnation for mommy and the character sudden becomes kewl? dove could literal see only in black and white? *groan* explains shallowness o' the o' so typical religious knight who must needs eventual have a crisis o' faith... but give her wings and make Literal colorblind? chrisA has, in a few interviews, expressed his opinion that the initial character hook, which includes visuals, is the most important aspect o' crpg character development, and motb were kinda the ultimate expression o' such a tragic perspective. heck, we liked the kotor 2 companions, for the most part, but the craptacular dependence on a hook and a cliche were equal present in that game. visas mar? hell, they needed two blind companions in kotor 2? kreia were at least having value beyond the hook. perhaps somebody at obsidian watched kung fu one too many times, eh? visas mar dialogue coulda' come straight outta a kung fu episode... or at least a robot chicken parody o' kung fu. the one thing we liked most about poe companions is that obsidian took a step back from the nonsense o' iwd2's villains and the the companions from motb. instead o' relying on an eye-catching and memorable hook, the companions were developed. yeah, we thinks the poe companions deserved greater effort, but thank goodness they were not the caricatures that we has gotten in other obsidian/black isle efforts. eder is not our favorite crpg o' all time, but he is a believable character who does not get a satisfactory resolution. there ain't no cheap answer for him that neatly wraps up a serious personal conflict after a half dozen dialogue encounters with the protagonist. eder is left with as many questions at the end o' his companion quest as he had at the start. good. is 'bout freaking time we got such characters from obsidian. however, our biggest complaint for the poe companions is that most o' em had rather perfunctory resolutions. pallegina, aloth, kanna, etc... we had to double-check our quest log to be realizing that we had reached a conclusion. "that's it?" is likely not the response writers want from players at the conclusion o' a companion arc. aloth, in particular, coulda'/shoulda' had more development After his big reveal. am knowing that motb is a favorite o' many folks 'round these parts, but that game were the ultimate expression o' crpg writers depending on style over substance insofar as the companions were concerned, and any retreat from the Primacy of the Hook nonsense is a good thing. obsidian developers is, for the most part, making the poe companions more human, regardless o' their race. good. now they need simple finish. HA! Good Fun!
