  1. Genghis Khan was a rapist and encouraged his men to rape. He'll get no respect from me. Well, since 1 out of 200 people in the world are his direct descendants, many of us should feel #blessed to be alive. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/gnxp/2010/08/1-in-200-men-direct-descendants-of-genghis-khan/ one o' the best movie scenes evar is a bastardization o' a genghis khan quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEpsVSdtfcc w/o gk we got not the above scene. now that would be a tragedy. HA! Good Fun!
  2. we were expecting **** cheney portraits. HA! Good Fun!
  3. The guys at Obsidian probably deserve it tbh the more chrisA posts such stuff, the more he yields whatever moral high ground he mighta' once held a claim to. the twitter and interview sniping that chrisA indulges in, knowing full well that obsidian has not and will not respond, is getting extreme old. am actual curious why, given the 'mount o' time that has elapsed since his obsidian departure, some folks keep posting chrisA's one-sided slappy fight with his former colleagues. HA! Good Fun!
  4. we got one reply: j.j. abrams. the actual explanation is that there likely were no explanation. an abrams vehicle that actual makes any kinda sense is the exception rather than the rule. a plot chart for an abrams film is gonna look like a jackson pollock painting. most likely theory: snoke is actual milo rambaldi whose master plan were never to rule the galaxy with his third death-to-science-star terror weapon-- classic misdirection. instead, the deathtrapstar from episode vii were actually a breeding ground for an army o' intelligent, force-wielding and invisible polar bears... thus all the snow. the invisible polar bears were part o' snoke/sloane/jacob's endgame... that would also involve a downed 747, a white guy named khan an enormous red water balloon, and quantum teleportation. don't overthink anything from abrams. whatever he intended is no doubt complete nonsense and his successors is gonna need retrofix the whole mess. HA! Good Fun!
  5. am using "optimal" nomenclature as put forth by josh sawyer in his recent gdc presentation... not 'cause we think josh is an authority, but 'cause his definition is, at the very least, adequate, and it is convenient to use a 3rd party definition that is a known quantity. am not seeing a point in starting a definitions debate when a perfect viable option is already available. am a frequent critic o' josh, but we had no complaint with his use o' optimal and viable. for sake o' simplicity and clarity, we will use optimal as did josh in his gdc presentation. http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1023481/Gods-and-Dumps-Attribute-Tuning as a complete aside, every time we heard josh describe that "genius barbarian" as some kinda alternative character build, we wanted to cry foul. tell us that poe seeks to avoid class defining abilities while using a barbarian to illustrate is perhaps some kinda tongue-in-cheek self deprecation that went unnoticed? have a clear class defining ability such as carnage that is inextricably linked to one or two attributes is what poe were trying to avoid yes? to then use genius barbarians to illustrate how poe is different were mighty perplexing to Gromnir. HA! Good Fun!
  6. Where would we be if people always did what wisebutts tell them they are supposed to do? is not a matter o' following what we is told to do. lord knows we wouldn't be such a poe priest fan if we listened to "supposed to." that being said, the abilities o' the paladin, particularly in the early beta, made OBJECTIVELY clear that the paladin were not ideal suited to damage output. the class has evolved, with the most notable dps addition being fod, and now one can frankenstein a very capable melee combatant outta the paladin, but is silly to ignore the class inherent strengths and weaknesses. *shrug* Gromnir is typical the guy fighting 'gainst the dominant paradyme, so is not a matter o' following "supposed to" advice, but it not take a william j. sidis to figure out that paladins is a poor fit for optimizing the melee dps role. fine. we not need optimal. can still be fun (more fun) to play non optimal, but am thinking one does a disservice to self if they ain't at least aware o' the class limitations. HA! Good Fun!
  7. I think it's simply a matter of wanting to make a class do something it's not naturally designed to do. It's probably similar to people who want to make Rogue tanks I imagine. is the same reason why some people teach dogs to walk on their hind legs. the results is awkward and embarrassing, but nevertheless, people frequent applaud the mildly disturbing displays o' canine obedience. the game has been released for a over a year now and those o' us who remain has all seen fido roll-over and fetch. HA! Good Fun!
  8. ... in our head, we read your post as sarcastic, but knowing manifested, we is +90% certain that you is genuine. curious. HA! Good Fun!
  9. the firebrand itself does critworthy damage w/o needing to crit and the universal weapon currently counts as fine, so you do get +4 accuracy. that being said, with 2 fod attacks (why would you Not use fod with your firebrand active?) AND sworn enemy, your melee paladin, played intelligent, is gonna be having boosted accuracy for a fair portion o' your 30 seconds o' firebrand. by midway through the game there is gonna be few battles where your main melee damage dealer ain't benefiting from at least a couple accuracy buffs regardless, yes? as many people have noted elsewhere, zealous focus becomes relative less useful as the game progresses precisely because it becomes increasingly easy to boost accuracy. becoming overly concerned with a shortfall in accuracy given the enormous damage benefits o' firebrand is, in our opinion, a mistake. pallegina is, of course, a better option than any main character paladin for a melee paladin, but it doesn't take much experimentation to see how ridiculous overpowered is forgemaster gloves. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/85343-post-30-paladins/?p=1792507 we never have bothered with a main paladin melee damage character, but the potential o' such a character, armed with forgemaster's gloves is considerable. you are stacking multiple burn effects that is all being boosted by scion o' flame. is overkill. HA! Good Fun!
  10. step 1: replace all your rangers with priests. no need for a step 2. we kid. that being said, midway thru the beta, the ranger became our least intriguing class. in spite o' considerable improvements having been made to poe rangers, we have never surrendered our ranger revulsion. am aware that it is possible to build effective melee and ranged rangers in poe, but we loathe the animal companions. for Gromnir, poe ranger animal companions went from overpowered to underpowered to eye-roll annoying. the signature feature o' the ranger has the same appeal as does gargling broken glass. we will follow this thread with some (albeit limited) interest as we realize that our dislike o' the poe ranger is largely legacy-based. the current ranger, on paper, is not only viable but powerful. even so, the only ranger we ever have in our party is sagani... and we only have her in our party long enough to complete her companion quest. ocd is a cruel mistress. HA! Good Fun!
  11. it's the same reason why james bond villains have easily accessible self-destruct devices in their bases and lairs. such readily apparent design flaws exist to be exploited in visually stunning ways. HA! Good Fun!
  12. Don't get me wrong. A character who burns through a ton of Health because he's getting constantly healed could possibly end up knocked out otherwise. It may just be the cost of doing business, so to speak. And yeah, Consecrated Ground seems like a far better healing spell than any of the Restore END spells. The only advantage that the Restore spells have over CG is that they can be cast up to 5m from the priest whereas CG is a 0 range spell (with a 2.5m AoE radius). Also, a downside of the Firebrand flamesword from the gloves is that, IIRC, it doesn't have any accuracy bonus. As you start using exceptional or better weapons, the loss of this accuracy bonus when using the Firebrand would seem to be a bit of a downer to me. forgemaster's gloves is one o' the more ridiculous overpowered items in the game, particularly for a fire focused paladin or a carnage barbarian. the melee damage paladin who is gonna be using sworn enemy and flames of devotion to bolster accuracy while firebrand is active will laugh at accuracy. play darcozzi paladini and the +10 accuracy you can give yourself every encounter will see you consistent criting from mid-levels onward. 3 per rest and 30 second duration o' a fire weapon for a paladin with scion o' flame is overkill. watch the world burn... even when facing fire resistant enemies. HA! Good Fun!
  13. forgemaster's gloves. if you wanna build a melee damage dealing paladin, forgemaster's gloves is the item you build your character 'round. take any ability/talent that boosts fire damage, and take talents that enhance your 2-handed weapon damage output. simple. as such, tidefall is a nifty backup weapon. HA! Good Fun!
  14. studio 60 were sports night redux... but less. sorkin did the meta-show shtick with sports night too, and while it were critical praised, it never found a niche with viewers. am not sure why anybody thought that redoing the same show but making it snl rather than sports center would sell it, particular with a less likeable cast than the one aaron sorkin assembled in 1998-2000. HA! Good Fun!
  15. Gromnir can legally protect most o' our American dollars in nevada, delaware and the virgin islands. why use panama? if am a criminal who can't use legal options? is, we s'pose, other reasons, but am doubting such folks is gonna be identifiable w/o a team o' forensic accountants doing searches. HA! Good Fun!
  16. Eh, I always preferred Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. That was a shame it only got the one season. studio 60 got 3 seasons... when you figure in that studio 60 were just sports night, but with a collection o' stars that dared you to like 'em. tim busfield? matthew perry? if sports night couldn't succeed, then studio 60 were doomed from the start, particular given that it were ridiculous expensive to produce. HA! Good Fun!
  17. It's automatically taken from your paycheck, but you're free to edit deductions etc yourself and give corrections. If very clear indications of tampered inconsistencies are discovered however, the fines can be pretty brutal. The Scandinavian tax laws are however some of the most complex in the world, where you can basically get taxed (or get tax refunds) under a myriad of conditions. Policy makers have been on an austerity campaign against the tax system for the better part of 2 decades now (both left and right) and have pretty much succeeded in ****ing it up beyond repair.. which they then of course blame on the system itself, meaning a lot of the specialized workers have fled to greener pastures as spin doctors or worse yet, personal consultants for the very very rich. Rich nationals can therefore remove their taxable income in much the same as many of the leaked papers show, through investments etc.. and many of the richest in Denmark are also personal friends of policy makers and high level bankers etc, which makes it a even easier to dodge the system. It's a small country after all even more so in the corridors of power. The only reason it's not worse is probably what you would call an "honor system", and likely the reason we're called the least corrupt, it's considered improper in the extreme to cheat the system excessively (although 'a little' never hurt anyone apparently). The comparison to your system would be that Clinton would never have been booted out of office here for his affair, we don't really care about that - personal matters are personal.. but if you're caught doing severe financial crimes, your career is basically over, political or otherwise. clinton would never have been kicked outta office for an affair... and he wasn't. the issue were the lies. is almost always the coverup that is the real problem with affairs n' similar stuff. clinton were effective disbarred (a 9 year suspension after which he could retake the bar for readmission) not 'cause o' the affair, but for lying. the suspension, by the way, were a relative slap on the wrist. clinton were gonna be indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice stemming from testimony in clinton v. jones. the former President managed to get one o' the sweetest plea deals... evar. 'stead o' going forward with the criminal case, clinton were allowed to sacrifice his law license. chalk up Gromnir as one who thought the affair stuff were overblown. is not as if clinton's serial philandering were some kinda secret, and we didn't much care in any event. as far as we were concerned, clinton extramarital behavior were tabloid fodder that didn't alter our opinion o' the man As President. that being said, the media and the clintons did an excellent job o' obscuring the reality o' the situation. potential being booted from office and the likelihood o' a criminal trial for perjury were not 'bout the affair. has always been misrepresented. HA! Good Fun! ps am always amused when the suspension o' clinton's license is described as voluntary. is also noteworthy that clinton approval levels were highest (historical high) immediate following the impeachment vote. am thinking that the perception that the average american cared 'bout clinton's affairs has been misrepresented, though some o' that is to be expected given that so many pundits here in the US expected more negative backlash from the lewinsky nonsense. regardless, the real threat to the President being booted were not 'cause o' the affair, but 'cause o' arguable criminal lies.
  18. a bit misleading considering your quotes. does not appear to be a claim by beamdog that, "if you don't like the changes well then you're "not real Baldurs Gate fans." if am reading correct, an assistant producer at beamdog is angered by a perceived negative review campaign. is more than a little different than were suggested. is neither an admonishment by beamdog and it is not directed simple at those who do not appreciate changes. in the article you linked, we saw an actual response from t. oster... one o' the few beamdog responses that we could see folks latching on to as representative o' a beamdog response. "I find the controversy ridiculous. Yes, we have a transgendered character. I know a number of transgendered people and they are genuine, wonderful humans. Yes, we also have a character who cracks a joke about ethics. The original Baldur’s Gate had a whole sequence about the Bob Newhart show. If this generates controversy it makes a sad statement about the world we live in." *shrug* am tending to agree with oster that any kinda outrage over this silliness is ridiculous. converse, while we ain't played the game, if a transparent political agenda has been inserted into the narrative without caring whether or not such inclusion makes the story better is a failure on the part o' the developer... albeit a very minor one considering how limited the addition appears to be. that being said, we had a hearty chuckle when interplay mocked scientology in fallout. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Hubologists would be height o' hypocrisy if we found the humor in thin-veiled ridicule o' scientology while chastising beamdog for a seeming more limited shot at gg, no? thanks for links, but unless we see something far different from beamdog than what you has provided, we can't see any justification in attributing a claim that, "if you don't like the changes well then you're "not real Baldurs Gate fans," to the developer o' sod. HA! Good Fun!
  19. Yes. The same with Minsc and his one line reference to GG. Just when you think the whole GG thing has died down, they do this to a well known character. As I said, Beamdog have said the original game is sexist. And if you don't like the changes well then you're "not real Baldurs Gate fans" and "If people don't like it, then too bad". can you link the quotes? we did a quick search o' beamdog articles and posts that use, "not real Baldurs Gate fans," and came up with nothing. have not heard beamdog make such claims so am curious of the context. having read few articles 'bout sod, we is very much ignorant 'bout it save for broad stroke generalizations. our traffic at the beamdog fora is equal limited. links to actual posts or articles would be helpful in this case. HA! Good Fun!
  20. Nobody can play Bowie. tom hiddleston? too obvious? jared leto were the first name that popped into our noggin... though the bits we have seen o' his joker make us less enthusiastic 'bout him. michael sheen did an admirable ziggy stardust/bowie in the newish tron film, though am not certain that such a direction is best. back in the late 90s we saw sheen play mozart in shaffer's amadeus and were much impressed. sheen is one o' those good actors that has done a few great movies, and a whole lotta bad ones. an amusing 30 rock segment with sheen. HA! Good Fun!
  21. I find it all rather odd. I've been watching this from the sidelines. Beamdog went back to try and 'fix' the original game as it's quite 'sexist'. Safana has been 'fixed' so she doesn't come across as a sex object and Jaheira has been 'fixed' so she doesn't come across as the 'nagging wife'. I thought Beamdog was making Siege of Dragonspear as an expansion that told the story between BG1 and BG2. Apparently, making a story between two games wasn't enough. They had to go back and 'fix' the original game. Did they really changed the original dialogue text of Safana and Jaheira in BG1? Don't care much about Jaheira, but Safana was with Viconia my favourite female NPC in the game, and changing personality of any of them is good enough reason for me, to not bother with Beamdog's games any more... the bg companions were poorly developed caricatures that had whatever personality you imagined into 'em, 'cause they had virtual 0 personality as written. coran had the most character development o' any bg companion, and he were essentially an unapologetic deadbeat dad. the rest o' the companions were little more than a collection o' frequently ill-timed catchphrases with vo accompaniment. for beamdog to be concerned 'bout bg's sexist companions is just as ridiculous as the rose hued recollections o' bg fans. HA! Good Fun!
  22. a police pursuit spec'd 1974 dodge monaco were an alternative choice during our moment o' crazy. HA! Good Fun!
  23. am not knowing more than shady. we waited for +2 hours to reserve and the actual time we spent reserving were ~3 minutes. am gonna admit that the wait annoyed us a bit, so previous to giving'em our credit card, we did have the folks at the rocklin tesla confirm for us that our reservation would be transferable to heirs or assignees in case o' our death.... not that we care 'bout such a transfer. HA! Good Fun!
  24. Disable black outline of sprites. wow. toggle one option and marc goes from "hearing choirs o' angels singing" to seeing a game that looks horrible. go figure. the hyperbole is strong with this one. HA! Good Fun!
  25. most californians will get an additional $2500 rebate + carpool lane access. we do not qualify for the rebate as it sudden became income capped. *grumble* no biggie. individual states got different rebate & credit offers. our recollection is that CO has the bestest credit, but am not recalling the specifics. an additional $6000? HA! Good Fun!
