  1. Thanks Monte and romeo! BTW, anyone else seen this:
  2. Can I take this moment to shamelessly promote a mod I'm contributing to? Europa Barbaorum - we're completely reworking the unit lists, models, and textures, besides just about everything else that isn't hardcoded. It should be out in a somewhat finished state by summer; so it should give you something to enjoy before (and hopefully after) the expansion is released. Here's some links to our weekly "press releases." Enjoy. http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=44165 http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=43859 http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=43480 http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=43195 http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=42840
  3. You can only train Spartans in Sparta and Syracuse; and then only when you have built the second highest level barracks (army barracks, I think). Of course, if you wanted to, you could have them be trainable in any city, you just need to mess around with one text file - descr_regions.txt.
  4. Actually, I've heard that the next Total War will be a rework of MTW for the RTW engine. Just rumors and innuendos, of course. As for the Rome expansion, I dunno. Maybe be a prequel like MC said, Alexander or earlier. Of course, maybe it will cover the fall of the Roman empire; Hunnic invasions and the Constantinople - Rome split. Whatever CA (or in this case Activision) decides, I hope their next releases give modders an easier time.
  5. Call of Duty Far Cry GTA Vice City Icewind Dale II Icewind Dale Planescape Torment MTW RTW Silent Storm Bloodlines
  6. The legs are too skinny. Fatten up the calves. Other than that - nice work, now go model it!
  7. Relax, that wasn't a knock against the converter you mentionned. It was aimed towards Kaftan. And BTW, the old Atari joysticks kicked ***.
  8. I'm a PC gamer first and foremost, so I love a keyboard and mouse, but it'd be pretty damn stupid to use them with Ninja Gaiden.
  9. My first post was about baking bread in crpgs.
  10. Well, Nivals SStorm did pretty poorly over here. TO the point that their having trouble releasing the expansion here. I seriously doubt that this game has an easy time making it to the states. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This was posted by Serge Orlovsky a couple of weeks ago in Nival's forum. I'd imagine that one of the "next projects" he is referring to is Night Watch.
  11. Alright, my totally baseless guess is that the metal object is a crashed plane from WWII. The french scientist's baby was taken from her by "them," paralleling the pregant girl's abduction. Someone needs babies on this island. Once they're abducted they're changed somehow and become "them." Oh wait, that does sound like aliens... :D
  12. Ummm, I dunno. They certainly leave it open to guesswork. Wasn't there something about the french survivor having another lover among the group besides her husband? Anyway, I'm just guessing that there's more people on the island than just the french scientist, her son, and the survivors.
  13. Isn't that guy a little old to be her son? I always assumed her son was born on the island, not part of the expedition.
  14. No, that wonderful appellation goes to Camden NJ at the moment.
  15. http://www.cexx.org/vx2.htm Hope it helps
  16. If you know when you turned off your firewall, do a file search for files modified or created on that date, then sort it by time. That might help you at least figure out what files are the source of the problem...
  17. Most spyware has an official removal program you can find. I had a nasty homepage hijacker program that infected my computer through windows help files (.chm's); there was absolutely no way to completely get rid of it without using the dubious .exe that came from the same jerks that screwed up my computer. Anyway, try looking here for help: SWI Forums You have to register to be able to see the full forums.
  18. What, the Nazi's obsession with propagandistic archaeology, such as their dubious attempts to find the sword of Charlemagne, the Holy Grail, etc. Or their portrayal in pulp fiction, such as acquiring advanced Atlantean laser beam technology to take over the world?
  19. well, if all evidence traces back to him, then that puts him as the source... otherwise, if there was another source, then the phrase "all evidence traces back to plato" wouldn't hold, would it? i haven't had a chance to read chemchok's links yet to comment... network problems at home and i've been busy at work. this is one area i'm certainly open for ideas on... of course, i am a skeptic. the bummer is that we'll never know what really drove plato to the scant description he provided. taks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, here's a brief summary. Santorini is a small group of volcanic islands 75 km off the SE of the Greek mainland. The largest island of the group is Thera, and it was the loacation of a thriving seaport of the Minoans that was quite wealthy for it's time (think of 3 storey houses with internal plumbing around 1700 BC). Thera was located on a caldera, the collapsed remnants of a once larger volcano, so the island had a ring formation, with a narrow entrance to it's harbour, this ties in to the circular layout of Plato's Atlantis. Anyway, sometime between 1650 BC and 1598 BC there was a huge explosion, estimated to have ejected at least the same, and up to 4X the amount of debris that Krakatoa did in 1883. Even something on the level of Krakatoa would have led to wideranging climactic changes around the world. For those who have never heard of Krakatoa (Wiki Link), think about a volcanic explosion that could be heard 2200 miles away, was the equivalent of 200 megatons of TNT, and darkened the skies worldwide for days. There was probably enough warning eruptions for the immediate population to leave before the explosion, but it was still cataclysmic. Portions of the island collapsed, and there would have been a ~125 foot high tsunami that would have destroyed any settlements on the North Coast of Crete 45 miles away (Crete being the center of Minoan power). So Atlantis = the Minoans city of Thera, and Atlantis' destruction = the volcanic eruption and destruction of Thera, the destruction of a large portion of their fleet due to the tidal wave, as well as damage to their cities on the North coast of Crete. So while Plato's account in his parable is probably full of garbage, it could point back to this event, which was horrible enough to leave a lasting impression on the psyche of the Mediterranean. Remember, if Atlantis is based on Thera, we're talking about something that happened over a thousand years before Plato's time, so it's extremely unlikely that the details of his account would have any historical merit.
  20. Wiki on Troy That sums up everything quite nicely. And for those interested in Thera and Plato's Atlantis, here's another Wiki page
  21. I love how the researcher puts so much weight on Plato's literary description of Atlantis while he leaves out the fact it's described as a huge landmass, larger than Northern Africa and Asia Minor combined. Whatever suits you, I suppose. I'm more inclined to think that Thera, under the rule of the Minoans, provided the basis for Atlantis, but that's just me.
  22. Ummm, there's these things called "bras," in conjunction with a tight shirt and a sharply turned torso you arrive at the scene above. "
  23. The point (as I see it) isn't whether what he said is true or not, it's why he decided to make life difficult for Bush's campaign two weeks before the election. Everyone says that the religious right is firmly behind Bush, but this seems like a crack in the relationship to me. The fact Robertson is a close friend of both Bush Sr. and Jr. makes the situation even stranger. Edit: My mistake on the close Bush ties to Robertson; Billy Graham is a close friend of the Bush's. And yes, Robertson is a complete nut.
  24. So, what's up with Pat Robertson making his recent allegation that Bush said there would be no casualties in the Iraq war? CNN Link I don't believe that Bush thought there would be no casualties whatsoever, but it does seem quite obvious by now that the Pentagon and the Bush team severely misjudged the Iraqui response to US occupation. Still, it seems strange that Robertson, who professes to be an ardent Bush supporter and holds sway over a good chunk of voters, would allow Kerry any fodder at this point in the election campaign.
  25. What's all this jibber-jabberin' about? Oh, BTW, the Marianas Trench t0ta11y pwns the mid atlantic ridge
