What is Orlando Blooms new film about?

Agreed, I was glad to see Ridley Scott directing it. That alone makes me have faith that the movie might be good. He knows how to make a good action movie that isn't cheese. Remember he -

Celebrating episode III: Kyla's fanart

There is no reason that European graphic novels can't and won't be as big as manga. Manga was an obscure geek niche market about ten years ago, virtually unknown outside Japan. The main thing I like about manga is the ludicrous amount of frames per second. (The plots seem as diverse as those in Bollywood films, i.e. NOT. " ) Your artwork is excellent, Kyla. I had never heard of these european comics until you mentioned them: do they extend into animation, as well? -
You could start up a 900 number, and never need to work again! Just have your lurid prose read out by some breathless bimbo in sotto voca at $5/minute ... (j/k  ) ...actually, maybe I might do that

Gee... THANKS! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course the positive connotation of that comment is lost in the digital world ... so much so that the reverse, perjorative interpretation is more obvious, counter-intuitively (at least for Baley). So, Baley, are you suggesting that Silvershadow writes immature prose? "

D'oh! I wondered why there was no significant hype about Richard 3 associated with the movie! Okay that makes more sense. -
And only the females are haemophagic ... they require the blood for their young. Also Malaria kills more people than anything else.

The fur of Polar Bears is not whilte, it is hollow and scatters light like snow. Polar Bears also give off no heat. Sharks have a sixth sense, which can determine the electric conductivity of prey through the water. (This is believed to be why they sometimes change their target from the juicy deutritus to a nearby metal part of the boat once the protective eyelid has covered their eyes, which also prevents sight.) They also have a seventh sense, as they can sense vibrations in the water using a the lateralis system. Dolphins shed their skin every two hours in a continual process. It is a tactic used to give a sudden burst of speed, by reducing 'form drag'. As the skin flakes off, it also helps the dolphin through the water: the flakes break up swirling vortices next to the skin that would otherwise slow the animal down. (Water is roughly 12 times the viscosity of air.) linkie

Operation Compass was the first win for the Allies in the WW2 land campaigns. In December 1940, General Wavell lead the Western Desert Force: Indian 4th Infantry Division (10k men), the Australian 6th Division (10k men) and the British 7th Armoured Division (Desert Rats, 65 tanks and 10k men). After 10 weeks the Allies had advanced 800km, destroying 400 tanks, 1,292 artillery pieces and capturing 130,000 POWs. The Allies suffered 494 dead and 1,225 wounded. This was and is the biggest defeat in Italian history, back to the Roman Republic.

Along that line, my brother-in-law had 6 toes in one of his feet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Polydactyly is a recessive gene. Is he a sloth? In the comics -- sorry, graphic novels -- the inhabitants of Krypton live on in a minaturised city (in a bottle from memory) in Superman's Ice Fortress. The material for his clothing is from Krypton. (In the movie the baby lands on earth wearing it -- presumeably it is very elastic.) The Roman Emporer used to indicate "let him live" with his thumb outside his fist held pointing to three o'clock. "Kill him" was the same outstretched fist, only the thumb has enclosed in the fingers. The "Thumbs up" hand symbol is still very rude in Greece. While in Brazil the "Ok" symbol is very rude. (It also means "4ssh0le" in sign language for the hearing challenged.) Gladiatorial Contests were not "Games" (Ludo), they were Trials by Death, being the culmination of the legal system where convicted criminals and captured slaves could fight for their life (or be used as the pawns in great battle re-enactments).

I didn't get that from that scene, so -- for my sample space of one -- that failed 100%. And I could tell what he was going to say as he died before the battle began, it was soooooooooo clich

And possibly Russia... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, forgot about that potential. Then again, Napoleon and Hitler have proved that Russia ain't the best country to invade ... ...and Eastern Orthodoxy... I really thought the new one would ay least be hispanic...no German Pope is going to save the Church in South America. Catholisism is running out of places to screw up in... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep, I thought they'd go Hispanic or Italian, then a moderniser next. If I didn't know better I'd say they're running scared. (I would kill to read the secrets in the Vatican library. ) Check out the link on my previous post: it's a variable URL, so it won't work in the normal manner, but it helps illustrate my point about the coming schisms.

My thoughts exactly. Monica Bellucci <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ditto. The first Matrix film intelligently explored a valid philosophical conundrum. The second was a couple of nice set action pieces in between attrocious dialogue trying to pass for deep philosophical exposition that merely betrayed the self-aggrandized, navel-gazing, masturbating twaddle it was. The third looked like they were trying to "update" the Christ archetype, except they failed to have a suitable denouement; it was clumsily done with even worse dialogue than the second, and less spectacular action. (Gotta love that Freeway action sequence of Reloaded.) I can watch the first Matrix movie anytime, it is a masterpiece of subtle undersatement. The sequels are just Kung-Fu movies.

Ralph (likes to pronounce his name without the "l", as in "Rafe") is a good actor: he was darn good in Hannibal (Silence of the Lambs 3: The prequel) but he might be a little too stiff. There just aren't any superstars anymore, so it will always be a compromise. Jude Law is a pathetic wannabe. Denzel Washington (if he was "in" the part) would be very cool: he is a brilliant actor. Maybe if Robert Downey Jr wasn't so flakey he might pull it off (he has that air of danger about him, but is too John Cleese, really); I vote for Angelina Jolie. " The film is about the Third Crusade, reviews are quite good from both Christian and Muslim sources (the latter saying merely that Saladin is portrayed too noble, as usual with Western Europeans). It is being made by Ridley "Gladiator" Scott, and is apparently adhering closely to historical fact, hence the lack of offence from those-that-are-quite-entitled-to-be. (There should a a link to the Pope thread here, after all it was Pope Gregory VIII who proposed the Third Crusade in the first place.) -
Nice one. :D The new Panza Pope is a stop-gap. THE AUTHORITY just wanted someone who would toe the line until they can work out what to do next. (The world is about due for a new cataclysmic crisis; like China buying Swiss Francs instead of the annual $US trillions of debt -- so the capitalist engine implodes -- or China annexes Taiwan and a few other places, like Nepal and Afganistan, thus creating WW3, or rogue terrorists let off a black market nuclear weapon in the CBD for infamy) so that they can manage all the fear uncertainty and doubt, prey on the guilt of the Catholics and re-invigorate the institution. Don't forget, like Judaism, GUILT is the major motivator in Catholicism. (You are born of original sin and you are not worthy, so crawl on your belly, prostrate yourself decrying the greatness of God and beg for forgiveness and then, and only then will you be saved. (Tough luck, stillborn babies. Nope, no place in heaven for you. Come back when you are baptised.)) So the last thing the papacy would do is remove some of the causes of guilt, like using contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy and consequent disease and malnutrition in the developing world, or being gay (they're ill, don'tcha know). The last thing THE AUTHORITY wants is to let in some naby-pamby like the liberal Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Cantebury trying to modernise the Church to make it relevant and cause a(nother) schism. A black pope -- hah! (Can't link to a variable url. Reference: )

It's a pity the graphics aren't quite advanced enough to do justice to the figures ... otherwise Brianna wouldn't need to wear anything (interferes with her Echani ju jitsu, or whatever she does ...)
