What is your Alignment?
I have chef +10 !!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... And so we see how humankind was doomed with original sin. No matter how virtuous, no matter what santimonious ideals and high-minded aspirations, as soon as hunger strikes, all bets are off and anything goes ... like a French lifeboat after a shipwreck, no-one is safe from the Hobbesian brutality of the dog-eat-dog world of humans ...

The most useless character
Hanharr is pointless as a character. (Okay, he's a mean fighter, big deal, it's not like you need a fighter when you're a Sith Lord ) He's garbage. "

TSL Restoration Project: Work in Progress
sorry just dont like companies like lucasarts that rush their games just to make a quick buck, its just not why you make a game for that purpose. :"> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There was a good article in this months PC Format regarding the whole issue of rushed film-tie-in titles and the reasons for it. It is not necessarily the developers' (or the publishers') fault, as they have a dilemma to deal with, after they are given only about a year to develop the game to tie in with the film release, and at release, the film has an enormous budget for marketing, which the game can take advantage of ... if the dev time is not sufficient to complete the game (a more and more common occurence, as the games become more and more complex), so they must either: 1. release an unfinished game and catch the marketing wave, or 2. wait till it's finished, releasing a game that might be perceived as "stale" because the marketing has come and gone. So the fault is the initial timetable set out when the film is announced; there is just too little time given to a dev to produce the tittle.

Name That Tale The Bible Stole!
Are you sure about that? It been a looong while since i read it, can you quote the relevant books, chapter and verses please? Although I myslef woud be considered an apostate :D i still know a few who have attained the level of hafiz. Arab scholars made a lot of important advancements in sciences such as maths and astronomy but remember they could not have done so without access to the work of the ancient greeks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not sure about the Earth going around the sun, but it wasn't unknwon; the Greeks knew that, and as the Arab scholars had captured Constantinople (Byzantium, or present day Istanbul), they translated the old classical texts (Aristotle first suggested heliocentricrism; but confirmed later with Eratosthenes' experiments to measure the size of the globe, and Aristarchus proposed a formal heliocentric theory, cited by Archimedes, and explained the lack of parallax in the stars) and kept continuity with the science, whilst the Christian Western Europe fought amongtst themselves and forgot science altogether. I do know that Book 4 of the Qur'an (Women) does include a statement that Jesus was not crucified on the cross ... That's because the tentacles of the scripture reach deep into the psyche of modern culture (and wriggle around a bit and jiggle it all up) ...

Name That Tale The Bible Stole!
No argument there. The Bible repesents an amazing body of work, but the predilection of dogmatists to argue the "all or nothing" view is a tragic waste of bandwidth. A lot of christians -- especially the senior clergy -- have had to confront the historical events of the new testament and the divine nature of Jesus Christ, and they have no crucial issues with reconciling the two ... but the fact that these issues are kept completely from the laity strkies me as disingenuous -- almost like the clergy are afriad that reconciling the Bible in its historical context will be beyond their audiences ...

The useless information thread!
Useless info: My alma mater has three semesters a year. (Super-loading on the fun, each semester is a standard 14 weeks, but the summer holiday is avoided to include another semester; the semester breaks are about a month long.) This allows Bond university to align itself with the Northern and Southern Hemisphere's curricula timetables.

Moreover, I actually have fads for my spelling; right now I am favouring the "z" speliings because I prefer their etymological roots ("s" is French derivative). Also, I empathise with the poor "z", it is so infrequently used. I want to give it a boost.

Well, yes, I certainly don't plan to watch any of these movies, but then I don't think I've played any of the games. The problem is that if you like these games (and apparently some of them do have decent stories), and you think they might make good movies, then the fact that some rubbish director is cornering the market as the only producer/director who turns games into movies, that's a problem. I notice that games are finding it easier to get serious/famous actors to do voice-overs - maybe it's only a matter of time before the directors follow. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> just because some imbecile makes a bad version of a film doesn't mean someone else can't make a good one ... For example "The King And I" has been made about seven times (and some of them were pretty ropey). There was a animated film of the LotR (and the producer still believes he has sole film rights) before PJ did his magnum opus.

What's your favorite gun?
Is the explosive charge of the munitions a variable? If the charge is the same for both the 7.62mm and 5.56mm, then the lighter, smaller projectile will travel faster and further (conservation of momentum, with a smaller mass). Plesae remember I have little specific knowledge of munitions, per se.

Before The Big Bang!
Thanks for the compliment. I am not a British-English-Spelling-Nazi, though (although I traditionally prefer it); I am quite comfortable with spellings changing over time (and the US did make a decision to update the English language, it's not an issue of negligence, incompetence or slovenliness). I am a punctuation-nazi, though, so if ever I make a mistake with that, feel free to let me know. "

So, the fact that we're discussing guns on the pen and paper section of a computer RPG website during the wee small hours of our respective timezones didn't tell you we were geeks? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How's this for geeky: Ah i feel it is my duty to inform you that this is in fact Way Off Topic and not Pen and Paper gaming. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought of that, and then I thought that this thread might have been started in Pen&Paper and moved by the Green Dragon or Sanity-challenged Joe ...

Patriot Act
Are you surprised? Have you seen how long this thing is? http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/hr3162.html All credit to Reveilled, but I don't think I could handle more than five minutes of that. Part of the problem is that it's so huge and contains so many measures. The supporters will pick out measures that are pretty reasonable, the opponents will pick out measures that are silly and badly written, and never the twain shall meet. (Still, it's probably better than the UK system, where anybody can be sent to jail indefinitely and without trial just because the Home Secretary thinks they might be a terrorist.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't understand how the hell anybody could have allowed that measure to pass through parliament. One would like to think that such a measure would have been voted down unanimously, but security seems to be king in the western world today, and silly things like freedom get in the way of that. A shame. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The UK are about to vote to strengthen the Police Powers to prevent any unscheduled protests in an enlarged area around parliament -- including Westminster Bridge in London. This is being hurried through for Dubya's visit and Geldof's "million hippy march" for the G8 in Scotland. Basically it means that all protestors will need to arrange their protest in advance (how many people, where, who what about); that sounds like a neat way for governments to manage protests that they find too embarassing or awkward ...
