  1. An idea before it's time, perhaps? I think the advent of an online digital delivery system makes it a much more feasible business plan.
  2. Ender, give Fionar (or Hydrogen or any of the mods) a PM. I know that Fionavar is very responsive (I have done this before), and polite and helpful. As for the content of Way Off-Topic, I would estimate it is for discussions that start in the normal fora, but then a side issue is raised that is not relevant to the topic (or KotOR) and thus is "taken Off-Topic". I don't think it is carte blanche to discuss anything and everything.

  5. "I am Konam, King of the World, Emperor of all I survey!" "Konam! Have you had the sacred sanctum cleared out for my parents to stay?" "Yes dear." "Does my bum look big in this?" "?!*"
  6. I think some of that is that people don't like expansion packs in general - they feel like they're being 'suckered' in by them, since they must have the governing game, and since they feel the pack contains material willfully withheld for more money. Sometimes it even feels that way. But I hear far less complaining in that vein, when the subject comes to sequels - then it's usually about how the graphics aren't improved enough or how the story isn't satisfying. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why can't there be a new form of gaming media: episodic game segments? That is precisely what Valve are trying to do with their Steam delivery system. And there are competitors either already or immenently releasing similar delivery systems. And it is not without precedent in other media: already major Video rentals can be managed over a broadband connection. And there are historical precedents, as well, Charles Dickens wrote a lot of his novels in newspaper serial form. Smaller productions are easier to develop. Serials provide the best of smaller project management overheads and re-usable models and graphic assets, leveraging the most expensive investments. So it doesn't seem that far fetched to think that publishers will look to a online digital delivery system for more frequent and smaller parcels of entertainment, including games.
  7. Yeah. Just have little bite-sized chunky bits. Just one more little chinky bit before bedtime ...

  10. What she said. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's what I thought, too!
  11. If you are interested in what the plot was (assuming you aren't going to try and work it out yourself, of course) there are a number of other threads that I have linked to in my previous post (<{POST_SNAPBACK}>) that will give some more information.
  12. Sure. The big difference with the Force (capital "F") and everything in the known universe is that it is a corporeal manifestation of an ethical concept. More even than ghosts, this is a ludicrously surreal concept; being happy or altruistic is no longer a selfless deed; it actually manifests some tangible benefit to the one being good, as well as the person benefiting from the goodness, and indeed the entire universe becomes that much "lighter". And, of course, vice versa for evil acts and darkness. It is always going to be a difficult study, because it is more insubstantial than even the most elusive philosophical concept we have in our universe. PS I took no offence; I was just checking that you had understood what I wrote (which may not have been completely clear, I grant you). I tend to be conservative in my use of emoticons ...
  13. Just turn off signatures, if it bothers you, in your controls.
  14. But the language of the Sand People was an ancient language. And they were a bloodthirsty race, who probably had a lot of input (directly or indirectly) on HK-47's programming. So it makes sense that HK-47 could talk to them.
  15. It's a miracle! She's alive!
  16. They are? Did I miss something on the WIP page?......no....I didn't....what WIP page are you looking at? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The invisible WIP page, visible only to rumor starters who don't quite seem to understand that it's hard enough to control how the information *we* release is interpreted, much less information someone else releases, especialy when it's blatantly false. I knew it was in jest from the smiley, but there will be people that will misinterpret everything, so if y'all could refrain from doing this from now on that'd really be helpful. Thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *looks around, points to self* Who, me? :"> Shucks, I was just having some fun with the fanboys. -- DARK POINTS GAINED --
  17. Perfectionists.
  18. I think it is an obvious position for the largest producer/developer in the market to press their advantage, namely: graphics. You said it yourself, better graphics costs BIG BUX. That is their discriminating feature in the market, their size gets them the leverage to add super-graphics, cheaper than anyone else. So he is just towing the company line, using the Microsoft Propaganda technique: hoping that if EA say it long and often enough, people will believe it and be forced to spend more than they can afford on an area of the game that EA has a natural advantage. I think you are forgeting to use your marketing filter to dsicriminate the boatloads of BS he his heaping on top of the reader ...
  19. Bloody Franko-Germanic time-stream polution! Anything to get the advantage in their never-ending warfare with each other. How many centuries have these tribes been at war? Twenty? Thirty? (Should be a good brouhaha, though ... )
  20. Baley, when are you going on holiday?
  21. Don't forget dynamic range lighting, as in Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast. I hear there are other developers working on similar improvements, so I would expect Quake V to have some sort of variable bloom and darkness effects over distances.
  22. I knew it! You're a thought thief!
  23. True. It was a plot triggered event. I like to encapsulate the concept we are all dancing about as: consequences. There should be many and varied immediate, mid- and long-term consequences for all aspects of the character chosen by the player. If you want to play a smarmy scoundrel? Fine and dandy for the ladies, but against a a Hutt, expect to be squashed, etc. Maybe that female character might become disenchanted with your lecherous behaviour, and become an asset for the opposition; similarly, the Hutt may not help you with a simple task and make you do things the hard way ...
  24. Don't you start with all that "canon" nonsense. Edit: Now GoA is stealing my thoughts! Is my brain leaking?
