I would point you to the Hall of Fame. Perhaps try some of the award winners? ^_^ You also seem to have conveniently forgotten just how awful SoU was; especially that dire final act. And the latest modules being sold are actually Hall of Famers. So that is just your own biases clouding the facts.

Sound conflicts can sink any game. (Off hand) one does have to unload the onboard sound drivers, before loading the new ones. It's in the BIOS: Goto Onboard Peripherals and change the Audio Chip to disabled. Goto Advanced Options/Chipset Settings and change ICH Audio Codec to disabled. -
... because it is bigoted and wrong.

The mod community did better expansions for NwN than Bio ever did, so I wouldn't be too concerned if it was left to the community to carry the torch (assuming the engine / dev tools are suitably advanced / easy to use / fun).

Which would mean Obsidian has a customer base of 5000000000000000000000000000000000 people or 1000000000000000000000000 Earths. Not bad for a studio that released one game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sssshhh! No numeracy here, this is North America where numbers are evil and spawn of the devil! Seriously, all those complaining about rideable mounts need to take a chill pill. As I have already posted, it was eminently possible to ride a dragon in NwN. It's a shame that the first campaign probably won't have horses, but I assume development is such that it will be possible, if not in the following Official Campaigns, then by individuals in the mod community. I would rather good writing than niceties like mounted combat.

Yep. I didn't feel like following the story, either. Which is a shame, because the whole steampunk setting was interesting. I didn't like the perplexing array of stats. Not that more is bad, just that there were too few ways to begin a character. I started a dozen characters trying to get one that I wanted. Birthsigns, innate talents, magic versus technology, etc. And it took so long to see how these parameters mattered in the game. I tried to start a character who was uncommonly comely; fat chance. More chance for a lamb in mint gravy to escape from a lion's den. That was probably a case of Troika putting all their eggs in one basket: having spent so much time, money and effort on Virgil's development, they didn't want the player to skip him. Me too.

No, that sounds cliched. Like a half-demon demonhunter (*cough* dante *cough*), or a half-vampire vampire hunter (*cough* blade *cough*). Throw in lots of angst about how the hero is conflicted about his "true inner nature" vs. his moral motivations for hunting the creatures of his own blood, put in some archenemy who is basically the exact same as him in terms of abilities, but who takes the opposite philosophy and chooses to embrace his monstrous heritage, put in a conflict involving the hero's family (there is *inevitably* going to be some conflict in this area). Not complicated. Not fun. Done to death. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, not a half-dragon dragonhunter, half-dragon in the same party as a dragon hunter.

This is very good but I think it is in the wrong thread ...

Writing poetry is easy. Writing good poetry is hard. On my reading list is Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Travelled (Christmas present), which looks interesting. Coincidentally, one of the appendices of my Latin textbook I am currently reading has a section on verse.

Don't forget the subtleties: the mocking overtones and mindlessly messianic and melancholic undertones, spoken through gritted teeth of a grimace of disdain ...

Eldar, let's just analyze some of the comments from the far right of the Christian Church:

No, she's not. I just watched Team America: certainly had a giggle in parts but it was very silly. Black, silly comedy.

It won't affect the external developers, unless Atari goes belly-up, and then I would expect another publisher would pick up the tab for marketing a completed game (although it wouldn't be the first time they haven't ...); maybe even OE might be able to take out a loan and self-publish. :D

I personally do not understand universal fascination with Spanish language. Asian languages recently became more "natural" sounding to my ears. Polish is damn annoying. It sounds exactly like Russian and when I hear it, some familiar patterns are instantly triggerred in my brain, but I can't comprehend a word of what is said. Australian accent was horrifying for the first 3 months of my exposure to it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep nasal Australian is vile. Kiwis sound like they should be in sheltered accommodation. I used to think the Scottish burr was a really nice anguage, but as soon as I heard it more often, it became revolting. Don't mind Irish, though. Brummie sounds worse than Kiwi, if that is possible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would assume you are English? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You know what they say about assumptions: you make an ass out of you and umption!

Yep. No argument. History isn't black and white (pun intended). (I also didn't mention the Germans and the Khoikhoi, or even the French in Algeria ...) The biggest problem for contemporary Africans is corrupt Africans. Still, it's not like Africa has a monopoly on corruption, it's just that big money makes for a bigger temptation, in quantity and numerousness of theft. I take the point about not segregating "black historry" from the rest; I agree in principle (of course), but perhaps, just as there is positive discrimination, this might be a good stepping stone to a more balanced historical perpective. After all, there is still a lot of endemic racism in various parts of society. Not to mention an unwillingness to spurn ignorance and pandemic stupidity. We the internet community, as a demographic, are above-averagely educated, liberal (small "l") and tolerant compared to society at large.

Read up on some Romantics stuff. Shakespeare did some good stuff (although I think it is all a bit repetitive) ...

and by "..." you mean T.O.M.B.S. points, right? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I didn't really feel like typing out an exhaustive list ... "

I know they do, but a lot of it is matter of opinion. These forums right here might ban somebody for expressing explicitely bigotted views, such as racism, on these boards. But do you think they'd be overstepping by banning a member for using the term "gay" to describe something negatively? Someone might take offense, but many would not. How are they supposed to know all the time? When would they draw the line? Also, WoW is a lot larger of an arena than most message boards out there. Hence, it'd be easier for the admins of message boards like these to just hit the ban button every time something like this pops up. It'd be harder for Blizzard to employ the same process. And personally, I think it'd be rather trite of them to ban or punish their members for every little verbal slip that might be considered remotely offensive. Same way with these boards here. I didn't use the word "gay" to describe Shadowstrider naturally. I was trying to make a point. Using slang words like that might offend, and might be a testament to one's own ignorance. But would banning them really help the situation, or change their views in any way? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Um, it's not a zero-tolerance policy. Warnings can be given, with explanations ... I prefer to give the bigots a penalty to XP accretion, maybe a -10% for first offence: that'll get their attention ...
