  1. Because it allows every bedroom wannabe to have their shot at being a game developer?
  2. Point well made; it has been several decades since I last read the PHB, so your incisive editorial is refreshing. So, back to the $64000 question: what alignment is Harry Callahan? Because it seems you are saying he is more like CG ... :D
  3. Isn't that how humans will create the first AI?
  4. Scorsese pwns
  5. Alien impregnation.
  6. Nonsense. Self-sufficiency is a fantasy. I suppose you would have been all onboard with Pol Pot's Communist vision, where everyone was moved from their bourgeoisie Colonial positions and set to work, equally, as proletariat brothers in the fields of the new agrarian cooperatives, too. (Who needs doctors when we can all work in the fields and feel satisfied with a job well done, all our hands calloused with the tonic of honest days' work?) I think you need to read up on a fairly important piece of work published recently by Adam Smith. Namely An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, which examined in detail the consequences of economic freedom, the role of self-interest, the division of labor, the function of markets, and the international implications of a laissez-faire economy (which is the ineluctable result of every country being focused inwards on "self-sufficiency", with no external plan). Oh, and there goes the UN, too.
  7. Keep it topical and not personal or I'll close it.
  8. Socialism gone mad.
  9. Don't read about Crysis, then.
  10. Yes, yes you are. And yes you do.
  11. Yes. Or wait for it in the game.
  12. I doubt it. The ingredients would be similar, for example, to create healing spells.
  13. Mary Shelley has a lot to answer for ...
  14. Um. Who is the defendant / respondent ?
  15. But Harry Potter is a WARLOCK! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil!
  16. Zodiac
  17. What setting is it? Later versions of D&D (3.5?) have divine spells from different domains; maybe the Ranger might recognise similar domains and be alarmed by very different (evil) ones ... or not.
  18. Unless it spontaneously creates its own purpose ...
  19. It's only because I have encountered the issue previously. This is why we can learn from history, and why living long enough gives you an advantage (if you are paying attention, of course), and why Krookie's Heuristic
  20. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This commentary is immediately disqualified because the writer is guilty of hate-induced bigotry. He's lucky he's not within my reach ...
  21. Or fights.
  22. Don't they usually adopt a walking billboard posture anyway, like a bunch of teenagers slathered in logos? Certainly Paladins like to trumpet their allegiance.
  23. Crysis is going to eat GPUs for breakfast.
  24. I feel it will be significantly stupider than the Intelligence that created it. At any level of existence, an Intelligence really has no clue about how it really functions. This includes humans. The best it can do is try and replicate some of the ways in which it has observed itself to respond to stimuli. Yes, it can probably create entities that are more efficient than itself in performing certain tasks (e.g., humans creating computers, AI discovering bugs and creating new revised versions of itself) but there's no way it can create entities with totally new reasoning abilities. Unless.......... random mutation/natural selection is applied (even then I'm not totally sure). I've seen the power of random mutation + natural selection in an algorithms class project I did during undergrad... we had a virtual maze with food strewn about on it, and we had to design ants that could hunt for the food in the least possible time. "Survival of the fittest" was used to weed out unsuccessful ants, and random mutation was used to build the state machine to define the behavior of the next generation of ants. After several hours of simulation, we ended up with some freakishly intelligent ants. It was all expected, of course, but to see such logic arise out of a random process was slightly sobering. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did you just contradict yourself and agree with me? Or did I misunderstand your post?
  25. P?? There's no 'P' in that name... And I'd put it under whatever the first letter of the official last name would be. If it's Sumner, than S. If it's Thomas-Sumner, than T. Either that, or S for 'Sting..' <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "P" for "Police, the" "S" for "Sting, lost up his behind" "
