Movies You Have Seen Lately
Just watched World Trade Center. Worth a look just to get a different perspective on the whole disaster (from the Water Police). One gets to see the good in people, which helps balance the tragedy of the event. Lots of screentime with Cage not moving in the dark, though.

What about the Intelligence that is created by the A.I.? And so on ...

Intel pledges 80 cores in five years
AI is set to surpass a single human's intellectual capacity within 30 years. And the total capacity of humanity in about 35. The humans are in good hands, as the children of humanity will take good care of them. :D

NWN 2 Henchmen
Of course. That would be good, yeah. I suspect it would be a little difficult to write the script, however. Here's how I would start: the general particulars of the way the character died (fighting whom and where) and (presumably the PC would survive!) the sucessful conclusion of said battle could even be named after the martyred character ..! And the evidence is: Yes. (Though you can still loot the body ... )

Well, I suspect they have bigger plans for the retail version. Can the Official Campaigns be modified, or are they locked?

Why would you want it to end?

Alan Wake needs quad-core CPU?
Uhm.. what? Hasn't AMD been manufacturing 90nm dies from early this summer already? They're about to start manufacturing their first 65nm by now. Yup, they have: http://www.eetimes.com/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=190400017 More news about AMD's manufacturing plans: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20060926PR215.html <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, sorry about that: typing from memory. Replace "90nm" with "65nm". The R600 (ATi DX10-generation GPU) is delayed until 2007, and ATi are working on combining the Northbridge and Southbridge on one chip on mobos.

Thanks! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What is remarkable is that that character model is better than Oblivion's. :D

What are you playing now?
Hmmm ... *contemplates playing BG2 with a Paladin ... * <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I really can't stress how great that Dungeon-Be-Gone mod is. As soon as you get out of your cell a little dude pops up who will whisk you to the exit of the dungeon, picking up all the XP and gear you would have got from trudging through it yourself. So if you ever think "I'd rather just start out in Athkatla," you should probably pick it up. Pocket Plane hosts it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm ... thanks for the linkie ... I don't mind the dungeon that much ...

Intel pledges 80 cores in five years
Excellent contribution to the discussion, Hades. I doubt very much we'll see 80-core chips in stores in five years, though the 45nm die (that must be the physical limit of visible EMR to print the circuits on the wafer) and new info on laptops is interesting.

Alan Wake needs quad-core CPU?
AMD's got a four core solution, though not the same as Intel's one. There is a column in this month's PC Format by the dude who runs Voodoo saying that AMD's four cores on a chip would be useful for instancing; in other words one could load four instances of, say, WoW and have the characters interact between each other. Also, there was a rumour in this month's Custom PC that AMD's 90nm dies might not be as far away as we have been led to believe. "

Yeah, my understanding is that "Lawful" refers to an external, societal law. After all, a character would be completely irrationally unpredictable if they didn't adhere to some sort of ethical framework, even if it was just that their good overrides all other concerns. So Paladin Prada would sooner renounce her knighthood than break a code of law, even if that code of law would result in greater good for everyone. The corollary is that a Chaotic person will do whatever is required for an ultimate requirement (good, evil or cosmic balance), rather than to just follow a code of ethics. Now the dilemma is that Dirty Harry / the Punisher are trying to defeat evil by any means necessary ... but it might be for ultimate good OR for spite to prevent another evil being from prospering ... it's all in the intent. So the characters could be Chaotic/Neutral Good OR Lawful Evil/Neutral, I think.

Movies You Have Seen Lately
The Queen; Helen Mirren is brilliant (again and as usual). Watched the Battlestar Galactica miniseries ... HATED IT. Then, on a whim, I watched the "making of" featurette, and I realised (with the specially-selected bunch of clips from the original series) how camp the first one was. (How could they include footage of Lorne Greene looking like a dandy in a Sicilian comedy? Just to make the new series look better! ) So I watched it again. And it didn't seem so bad. In my defence, I really liked the orignal film and not the series. " I am now not sure if I should watch the rest of the series. I DO like what they did with Baltar, though: a lot of scope for a rich, non-shallow evil character.

Nice idea; I'll move this to the Pen and Paper forum, which I think is more appropriate.

I played a couple of Community mods that handled both large troop battles under the player's command AND political machinations very well, so it is possible (even if it was beyond the scope of Bioware's original remit). Otherwise you will just have a party-based dungeon crawl rehash of Oblivion, in third person. Precisely.

Deus Ex
 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am not pleased. The first time through I Come back here, I'll bite yer kneecaps off! :D OMG I totally forgot about him. That little weiner guy. When I first played the game I thought he was going to have a bigger role, but he was really just around for that one mission. I thought that was a little strange: introducing a singular character like that so late in the game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey, I am not a weiner! I am Howard Strong, and you will quail at my name!
