Baldur's Gate 3 - the 2nd thread
I think they've pretty much confirmed the full release won't be until well into 2022.

TOW1's intro cinematic says that Halcyon is "the only colony on the edge of the frontier owned and operated by corporations"
Yeah, Obsidian (and others) need to learn that corporations and capitalism are not the same thing. Plenty of socialist mega-corporations in the West these days.

Surprise! The Outer Worlds 2 announced at E3 2021
What I meant is that I love the premise of the game, meaning the context of the story of the game. If I could pick any life for myself I wanted, it would be being part of humanity's early days stepping out of the solar system. Nothing that humanity has achieved before would even come close in awesomeness (for me personally) to our first steps beyond our star system.

So who is working on this game?
Is the project codename known?

So who is working on this game?
I have the same question.

Surprise! The Outer Worlds 2 announced at E3 2021
Since Obsidian themselves said they couldn't include a third-person option in TOW1 only because their budget wouldn't allow it, I really hope we will get that option in TOW2. It's the main reason I have not played TOW1.

Surprise! The Outer Worlds 2 announced at E3 2021
One of the articles about the announcement said Obsidian has said the game is set in a new star system.

Sorry, disagree. I loved the TOW2 trailer for its comedic value, but Starfield looks like a fantastic game from its trailer.

Pillars of Eternity 3
kanisatha replied to Perundor's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I've said this myself, but for me the conclusion is that I am so very glad Obsidian went with a brand new system because the existing D20 D&D-based systems just plain suck. Kudos to Obsidian for creating a new system from scratch. Yes the DO:S system represents simplicity, but strongly disagree that it somehow also provides gameplay depth. I find the D:OS system to be mind-numbingly shallow, superficial, and often just plain silly. It is precisely its shallow simplicity that makes it popular with so many of today's gamers who can't handle or don't want to be bothered with anything complex or sophisticated.

E3 Speculation
But while I have you here, @Flouride, or @Ethics Gradient, what's the state codename for The Outer Worlds 2?

This was clarified later on as the two airframes are in production but not yet complete.

That they left doesn't automatically mean they quit. People make choices based on their life needs, and especially nowadays with the aftermath of the pandemic, there are many possible reasons for someone making a change in their life. Also, according some leaked info on Avowed, the game's development is coming along very well and is far further in development than generally assumed/known.

Honestly, some talent refreshing may be a very good thing for Obsidian, much as I've also said about Bioware. So long as the very top people, at the level of project director and above, stick around, we're good.

The all things Political Topic - For who in this dark, dream-haunted Land dares Resist the righteous flame of Wrath And Doom themselves to despair and death?
Sorry @BruceVC, I very strictly stay away from any and all political discussions anywhere online, and especially so on highly charged topics. It is a very sad reality today that far too many people are incapable of or outright do not want to have civil discourse with anyone who even mildly disagrees with them. Also, what email?

Looks like a hack and slash action game to me. Yes? No?

One of my favorites, alongside Athens and Sparta of course. Alexander versus Darius is also very interesting.

Sure thing. Always happy to chat about stuff in my professional areas of interest. And to add to my earlier post, I also have continuing interests in military aviation and human exploration of space. I was an engineer before i switched professions to international relations. I have a B.S., an M.S., and an unfinished PhD in Aerospace Engineering prior to completing a PhD in International Relations.

These drone tankers are going to be a game-changer in future conventional wars (for anyone who has them).

No I haven't served in the military. I'm an immigrant to the US, so my situation didn't allow for it. I came to the US on a student visa, although In truth I was fleeing an oppressive home country. Had I grown up in the US I surely would've ended up in the navy or air force. I've long had an interest in political and military history, and WW2 history is especially interesting to me (as is Cold War history btw). I have a doctorate in international relations and my areas of research and teaching are international security and conflict, military affairs, and foreign policy. My overall professional interest is on international rivalries, from the ancient world to today. In the past my research was focused on the India-Pakistan rivalry including especially its nuclear weapons proliferation dimension, but in recent years I've swung over to the Iran-Israel, Iran-Saudi, and emerging US-China rivalries.

Yes that one is based on the Guadalcanal campaign, although when I checked it out it turned out to be about the story of a couple of AWOL soldiers. And I tend to not like those kinds of WW2 movies, focusing on the personal story of some individual. Feels like a soap opera that's just set in a war setting.

I agree. 'The Longest Day' and 'Big Red One' are both better.

Yup. This is the counter article to the ones I was citing. Sucks if this is correct. 😞

Again, this is just not true. Targeting and use of US nukes in Europe, which are officially considered NATO nukes, is under the control of the North Atlantic Council. Furthermore, the US cannot unilaterally decide on using those nukes, and must get host country permission first. So host countries do have a lot of say. And ultimately, the most important 'say' of the host countries is to agree to host those weapons in the first place. So clearly there is a rationale for it. But we are obviously not going to agree here, so I've had my say and am done. Russia and China have invested heavily in intermediate range nuclear systems, and so they obviously see great value in those systems. I believe very strongly that the US also would gain significant value from similar systems, and am very glad to see that the DoD agrees and is moving forward on developing such systems.
