E3 developer walkthrough video
Zoma replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
To be fair, its not fun for a player who plays as stealth character fubarred one of his stealth moment and alerted the entire enemies present in the said complex. Hence the areas are divided into sections similar to FEAR in that the AIs only function within the boundary and possibly incapable of moving out of the said boundary. Its also possible that its easier to code such AI and does not take too much memory. This design scheme I think, is less punishing than a true simulated stealth gameplay. -
E3 developer walkthrough video
Zoma replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Its stated that that is one of the early levels in the game which the enemies have much poorer range of sight and hearing in comparison to later levels. Which I think its alright as I believe that the first couple levels of the game shouldn't be too punishing for a new player as they still need to adjust to the gameplay style. Though I think that at the train yard scene where MT had to move the crane, there is a sense of breaking illusion as he uses a non-silenced rifle to take down enemies in the same area yet the ones on the second level in plain sight were not alerted to it. I hope Obsidian would continue tuning it since its simply still in Alpha stage. Unfortunately considering that the game is unlike Mass Effect, which solely only focuses on action, AP has the stealth gameplay which requires LOTS more of work in the AI department Regarding AI issues, indeed it would be better if Obsidian could continue polishing it. Flaws noted are (The ones stamped with a star are integral to the AI features): -AIs not actively seeking for cover* -Not flanking often enough* -Should take initiative to use melee stance against player if its close enough to break the player's bearing -No capability to alert others or call in reinforcements -
So when does something like this happen to Josh?

You can't go bankrupt when you farm spice melange as your part time job in your office. -
Viability of not killing opponents?
Zoma replied to Mirren's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
kewl to know that Obs managed to sneak in moar stuffs in Alpha stage. -
All these discussions of steelbooks and posters of naked Sie, you're all making the crates and barrels cry. Screw Steelboxes. Make sure they come along with ninja crates and kitty barrels.
-
Great presentation! Though if its not too much of a trouble, you think its possible to make those presentation slides converted into PDF format for peeps to check out some details you skipped due to time constraints? Would be cool.

Obsidian doesn't hire them. Sega does.
-
I don't think in Mass Effect you could even -jump across ledges, -climb ladders, -jump down from ledges, -do a tumbling roll, -make a swat turn from cover to cover, -perform blind fire behind cover, -throw an arcing grenade, -perform combos with melee, -limited ammunition resources, -perform take downs, -Stealth as an optional gameplay Seriously, realistically, its looking more like Uncharted than any resemblence to Mass Effect.

Piraters attempted to autheticate the games during launch day itself, overloading the server of Stardocks.
-
Actually, based on Stardock's recent game "Demigod", they might have second thoughts now.

By far the most comprehensive preview for E3's AP by Worthplaying. Makes you wonder what were the other previewers doing. http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=63381 Oh, btw Alpha Protocol actually won some RPG awards from E3 though not from big names like Gamespot or IGN. http://www.seganerds.com/2009/06/15/alpha-...some-e3-awards/

Funny that they have poor memory of how much Battlefield 2 managed to sell just on the PC alone without the need to compromise the gameplay and controls to be consolized.
-
Looking at the recent trend Sega is heading to, its quite likely they'll go for Steam instead.

Splinter Cell Conviction vs Alpha Protocol
Zoma replied to Mirren's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Pretty much is. The only bearing similarities would be the espionage theme and third person combat mechanics. -

So, uh, what is the point of this thread aside from painting Obsidian in a doom and gloom scenario? -
Splinter Cell Conviction vs Alpha Protocol
Zoma replied to Mirren's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
It seems that any games with a Tom Clancy name has a deliberately AWFUL story and at times, stupidly unbelievable. Yes, I'm staring right down at you Rainbow Six Vegas series and Splinter Cell games. Anyway, breaking down into comparisons in an objective manner. Alpha Protocol's definitely won't get crazy sales like Splinter Cell Conviction during that season. However, there's a possibility in the long run that it might keep up with the sales with an established a new fan base. With that in mind that Alpha Protocol's as good as we expect it to be, Beta Protocol will have much better sales, followed with Gamma, Ephilson, Zeta and by the time it reaches Omega Protocol, I suspect it will have similar sales to Conviction. -
I'm guessing George Ziets will be taking up as the creative lead, Tony Evans as the lead designer.

Tehre's sniper rifle in the game. One of the trailers showed MT using a bolt action rifle.
-
MMOs will never ever be able to capture the special moments that a persistent world filled with creative DMs and players is able to. For me at least being an avid player of NWN2's PWs. Just another WoW clone from the looks of it.

Some constructive criticism
Zoma replied to HanSh0t1st's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I think disarm in Alpha Protocols can be simplified by means providing access to the perk at a relatively high allocated skill points in the martial arts attribute. How it works is by means of giving a player a reasonable 30%(?) chance to disarm an unguarded opponent whenever the character reaches the last link of the combo, be it an upper cut or a flying kick. The disarm animation would simply be seen with the weapon flown out of the enemy's hands. -

Considering its still at Alpha Stage, I guess (And Hope) that it'll be easily fix by then since Obsidian's simply focusing on polishing for the past few months. -
Its more akin to the Diablo series actually. It generates random maps and such.

Gears of War also had the similar crouch/roadie run. -
