There goes 35 hours....
NeverwinterKnight replied to OremLittleKing's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
what youre suggesting is an example of how the current influence system should be improved upon. but like i said, it does work. its just that it seems it only works as a bare bones of what we thought it would. saying it 'doesnt' work' implies that regardless of what you say or do, your companions dont change alignment or dont start opening up to you (btw, thats another aspect of the influence system that 'works'. the more influence you gain, the more they tell you their backstory), and thats not the case. ive already stated that i feel the influence system could do with a lot of improvements, but the idea behind it and the bare-bones implementation of it actually works like it should (ie. you give dialogue choices that will appease your party members so that theyll slowly start to align themselves with you). -

because it works as was intended, but as with much of the rest of the game, it doesnt feel 'complete'. that doesnt necessarily mean the system is flawed, but more the way the system was fleshed out wasnt as thorough as it should have been. besides, a better description would be it 'has flaws' than it 'is flawed'. one implies that the theory of it works, but the presentation and depth doesnt meet its potential, the other implies that it just does not work at all(ie broken) which isnt the case. -
in a game where the force is the driving feature/component, i dont think a grey option is a valid one. the very nature of the force implies that its user will either want to control the force for good or for complete domination. theres no real middle ground using the force. even the examples given of grey arent really grey, theyre more like one lightside choice followed by one darkside choice.

unsatisfying.

thats true. i think that the influence system could use some improvements. im mainly talking about how, in theory, it works how it should in that your character is 'pretending' to agree with the thoughts and views of his companions in order to gain influence and slowly take them over. theres a lot of room for improvement, but at the same time i dont think that means the system is flawed. this is not necessarily directed at you, but at anyone who says the influence system is 'broken'. its not broken, it just needed more fine tuning. -

thats how it should be though. think about the emperor/palpatine. when he was trying to influence people, did he go around acting darkside? no, he acted the way the people around him would want him to act so that he could get them under his influence. name one time where palpatine acted as his 'true' self in order to get someone to agree with him. he acted like the peace loving, kind, gentle grandfather figure to those around him, even though his own thoughts and ambitions were of the utmost evil. thats how this influence system works. in order to gain influence, first you have to befriend them and 'pretend' to agree with their philosophies, then you turn them to whichever alignment you are. the only thing ill agree with is that once youve got them completely influenced, their dialogue should alter to reflect that. but the influence system itself works how it should. i also thought that there werent enough chances to actually gain or lose influence with party members, especially considering how little time you had to turn them and learn their story. i was hoping that youd gain influence as often as youd gain darkside or lightside points, but even when i had them in my party and did something that gained me experience or ls/ds points, i didnt always gain influence/lose influence with them. -
personally, id like a resolution to the series. the 'ideal' situation (from a purely story point of view) would be to have the party in kotor3 have both revan and the exile in it, with one or the other as the playable pc. this way the story can finally be concluded and this saga ended without having to resort to introducing a brand new pc and have to try and weave this new pcs story with that of revan and the exile. but from a gameplay point of view, this would be near impossible, what with the high levels both revan and the exile have achieved, not to mention the high levels that all party members from kotor1 and 2 have achieved. im torn between which option would be best. on one hand, the part of me that enjoys the story aspect wants to see a final conclusion to this saga and also wants to see revan and/or the exile as a big part of that conclusion in some major way. on the other hand, i found tsl extremely easy to beat and if kotor3 had either revan or the exile as the playable pc character that would mean it would be even easier. in any case, i want the third game (if there is one) to be the final installment of the kotor series. if more games are made in this style (and i think there should be, since the star wars universe is quite large), it shouldnt be under the 'kotor' name.

yet you single out my post? did you even read this entire thread? the entire thing is about how the ending is handled.
-
says the guy with over 1000 posts. :D

nothing i wrote had a spoiler about what actually happened, who said it, where it was said, what was going on as it was said, etc. i simply expanded on what chris avellone himself had stated by shooting down the notion that those who havent played it wont be seeing a cinematic. if anything, that would make sure you didnt get your hopes up about how the ending is handled.
-
<{POST_SNAPBACK}> how is that a spoiler? chris avellone even posted about it in a developer rambling thread.

hahaha so mean, but so funny. :D

Disappearing party mates?
NeverwinterKnight replied to Venture's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
exactly. as soon as you regain control of your character just go into the party selection screen and add kreia and atton. -
howd you get such a powerful lightsaber? i think the most ive got was a 8-28 lightsaber. so far ive played through as a ds male (revan ds male), and ls male (revan ds female). i intend to play atleast 2 more times, a ls male (revan ls male) and ls female (revan ls female).

im trying to be nice for new years and tone down on sarcasm. "

i think people are just complaining about the ending because they assumed (myself included) that it would be a cinematic ending, not just some lines of dialogue text.

So you didn't read it, figures. You're too much of an idiot to understand the whole concept anyway. On top of that, you have no arguement except the classic fall back of "U HAV NO CREDABILIAH EVERI1 KNOZ DAT!". My online feelings are hurt, I'll shed a few cyber tears for you once my online ego is done laughing at your attempt to display superiority. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i didnt read what? you ignored the fact that you were wrong about associating mike gallo with working for obsidian. i stated that he does not. im not sure how thats me avoiding or not reading what you wrote. and i dont see how that is me having no argument when my entire argument is the fact that you blatantly LIE to try and prove some obscure point youre trying to make. all ive ever commented on towards you is the fact that your statement that mike gallo's comments are those of obsidian since you seemed to think he works for obsidian. i pointed out that was a stupid and ignorant comment on your behalf since mike gallo is a producer at lucasarts, the same company youre saying should not be blamed for a rush job. btw, i do agree with much of what you wrote. perhaps we got off on the wrong foot, but my ONLY contention with anything youve said is the fact you used a quote by mike gallo, who is a lucasarts producer, as proof that it was obsidian's choice to rush the game out. apart from that, what you wrote i do agree with (although i still enjoyed my play through because i thought the story and characters were strong enough to overlook some of the shortcomings).

i dont think you can. both times ive played the body disappears. the person who said he looted the corpse is either 1)mistaken and confusing nihilus with someone else or b)lying.
-
if youre asking me, then i dont know. i never finished off any of the final end bosses in any of the nwn games. i know its weird, but im more inclined to playing out the story and leading up to the end, but get bored trying to defeat the final end boss, knowing the game is at an end. only reason i finished kotor2's endboss is because, well, it was almost too easy not to.

i was disappointed with this part as well. i was assuming that wed get some kind of cinematic showing the different planets and npc party members, with a voiceover dictating what was happening. but regardless, the original poster was wrong in that they seemed to imply that there was nothing at the ending to tell you what happened on the different planets and party members.
-
priceless. we point out how you are clearly WRONG about mike gallo and who he works for, so instead of conceding that that part of your whining has no merit, you insist that 'he echos the feelings of Obsidian'. thats just stupid and anyone who reads your posts should realize how little credibility your crying has. you were wrong. mike gallo is the producer for lucasarts for the sith lords. lucasarts. say it with me. lucasarts. if you want to continue to say the game sucks, by all means, do so. but dont lie about proven facts in the process.
