New Scientific Discoveries, Part Drei
Not a new discovery per se, but apparently we need find bigger and better particles. Or some such. Time to bring in the bigger guns in the hunt for particles of CERN is to be believed. FCC - Four times larger and ten times more powerful than the LHC. Should they manage to open a gateway to a nightmare dimension in 2050, well, I'm too old to care https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-46862486

The Political Thread - Burlamaqui edition
I believe the last thing anyone wants is a rekindling of the old IRA/UK conflict. Most people know or have heard of the conflict, but most people outside Europe doesn't know how bloody the conflict in the 70's and 80's really was (3000 dead and 49000 wounded). Westminster will/would go to great lengths to try to preserve the current level of happiness in the region.

What did you do today?
It's official (Ok, maybe not, but it sure is anecdotal!)... Australia Post is BADLY in need of privatization I was supposed to get 3 deliveries through the AU Post the last month. First up was an internet modem. Arrived in Ok time, was sent express. However, the only way I knew where to find it was the online tracker. No messages, no card, not even an effin SMS telling me that they couldn't be bothered to deliver to my address, come and pick it up at our local distribution center. Second was a parcel from a hotel in Brisbane (because, being silly me, I forgot a jumper and my passport there before flying back to Melbourne). That one apparently arrived a week ago at the local post office. Again, no hint whatsoever (nor any delivery attempts). Going to walk there today during my lunch break and see if they still got my stuff, even though it's not a full week later. Third... I bought a new mechanical gaming keyboard. $250, not the plastic toys that most people are happy with. Paid extra to have it shipped express too. Would it surprise anyone that it "mysteriously" disappeared en route, tracking showing it arriving in central Melbourne and then no more tracking entries. That was a week and a half ago. What could possibly be the reason for an expensive gaming keyboard getting lost from the tracking system??? Yeah, not a serious question, I have some very unflattering suspicions.

What are you playing right now?
Hmm... thread is getting a bit long... ah well, can fit another post in here! I bought Battlestar Galactica Deadlock a while ago on a Steam sale. Only just got around to try it out for an hour. Played to first skirmish twice. Got my butt handed to me in the first attempt while trying to work out maneuvering and weapon controls. Made a better second attempt with a closely contested fight (I still lost, but only barely this time). I'm sure I'll get those pesky enemies in my third attempt. I need to work out what the optimal distances and use is for things like Vipers, Guided Missiles and Torpedoes.

Took a beak from Master of Orion 2 for something completely different last night... a few rounds of Killing Floor 2. Nothing like a bit of mindless zombie slaying to loosen up a bit Edit: My demolitionist is now level 24, closing in on 25. Second character is a firebug that just hit level 20.

The drinking thread
Found on e of those little bargain gems in the local bottle store just before the weekend. A red wine that is nornally $20 (Aussie dollars, not US dollars) was on sale for $12, so I figured why not? Unknown to me, but still a 2017 Shiraz (my favourite grape if not vintage). Well, it was definitely as good as any $40 wine I've ever had, so I went back to the store and walked away with another half dozen bottles of this little gem (the name on the label was 'Two Towns', local Aussie stuff)

Sorry, no links. Too awkward on a phone. Besides aforementioned Planescape Torment trailer, I think the Blur produced trailers for Swtor are amongst my favourites

Forum edit function too... sensitive?
Who says we don't get a kick out of people's misery! Just kidding. Even allowing people to edit their posts was a concession. A few may, but most won't have a long enough memory to remember how it was abused in the past for trolling. Resulting a draconian restriction on editing at first. I.e. you couldn't't

What did you do today?
Got the keys to a new place a few days ago. Got electricity yesterday. Won't get any of my furniture until mid next week. No ETA for internet connection. Ah well, could have been worse. Living in a serviced apartment just across the street at the moment. I hate the extra expense though, but I'm a bit at the mercy of the removal company.

Hey! If I as a Hispanic male choose to go to a Klan rally and declare my hispanicness, then the government has to guarantee my safety...that's how free speech works, right? I'm beginning to see why the follow up to free speech was getting a gun. I thought "Free Speech" just meant it isn't the government who is going to shoot you for expressing your opinion Still mostly playing Guild Wars 2. I finally got my own little 'Mawdrey II' crafted. The adorable little Venus Flytrap doesn't eat people though, just bloodstone dust. Otherwise cycling through a number of single player games, both old and new. Master of Orion 2, Nier: Automata, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Oh, and another multiplayer game when I need to switch my brain off, Killing Floor 2. So much splatter, so little brains required

Weird. Random. Interesting.
Baseball for geeks I guess... Relativistic Baseball Poor disintegrating pitcher and unsuspecting batter. "A careful reading of official Major League Baseball Rule 6.08(b) suggests that in this situation, the batter would be considered "hit by pitch", and would be eligible to advance to first base."

What are you playing right now?
Most of the (story) bossfights range from annoying to extremely obnoxious. They've fixed the last HoT boss a long time ago though, most of the stuff you Google is probably just way out of date (you can just go stand in the shield bubble with the NPCs nowadays, which makes him trivial). Caudecus also was nerfed a few times but if you are there on the wrong class (or build) you'll have a bad time. I got lucky there from what I hear by bringing a Daredevil. Now the Path of Fire final bosses, those are just extremely obnoxious, I absolutely hated those fights (chances of running through PoF story with another character are, for me, close to zero) As for Chronomancer (which is the class I play most of the time) I find it perfectly highlights the weaknesses of the game. It's a class that requires you to blindly follow a "rotation" for optimal result in group play because the UI doesn't give you the information you need for a more reactive play style. And all of that in the name of "avoiding players having to play the UI" bollocks, I mean, like how you don't have to play the UI during the Soulless Horror encounter, tanking at a boss while staring at a little debuff icon (that moves around) isn't playing the UI, according to Anet They've now made it even worse and you have even less flexibility in the traits and abilities you can use if you want optimal result on top of making running two Chronomancers in raids pretty much mandatory (the flexibility was what attracted me to the class in the first place...) In this case, the Caudecus fight went like this twice in a row... I whittle him down to 30%... remembering to use my counter magic ability, throwing rocks at his shield etc.... then he summons a veteran jade armour and it's pretty much game over. The jade guy jumps over to me and kills me in one blow (I'm a warrior with close to 25k hp). My companions get perma-dazed and can't rez me, they are just standing there, swaying on their feet. Ok, respawn inside instance, walk up to the mesmer portal leading to the fight, hit 'F' and... I'm insta-dead. As in not just downed, dead. I tried to create a sequence of 'F','Direction','Direction' to roll out of harms way the moment I go through the portal, but I never get to do the evade, goes from max health to dead (and as mentioned, really dead). Rinse and repeat 20 times with the same outcome and I gave up. Tried it two days in a row with the same result, once Jade guy shows up, I do not last 1 second and can't join the fight from a respawn.
