  1. Christmas Eve (today) is going to be spent with a bottle of nice Cognac... The following days, hanging out with friends... New Years Eve... getting senselessly drunk. I've given up trying to get a hangover, so no sense in trying Nearest family is 20.000+ km away, so it is going to be a week of hanging out with the friends I've made down here. Which is not bad at all actually. Made some very good ones the last few years. Chinese (mainland and Taiwan), Serbians, Aussies, Kiwis, various parts of India. Interesting bunch Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone
  2. I'm an unashamed Warhammer 40k fanboy Just posting one episode, I'll leave it to people to find the rest of Helsreach on youtube
  3. Australia is burning... a lot. NSW (an Aussie state) had 3 million hectares scorched since July. By comparison, that's more than all of Californias 2018 fires and the 2019 fires in the Amazonas combined https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-50585968 @Bartimaeus I know, I suck
  4. More politics this way:
  5. Split from previous thread, as to not interrupt conversation too much. I'll refrain from Monty Python jokes here....
  6. Yeah, Sydney is burning... or at least it's closing in on the suburbs. Adelaide is feeling the smoke too. Speaking of Australia, the 2020 underwater hockey season is about to kick off. Yes, it's a thing https://vuhc.org.au/category/news/
  7. A Mongolian/Latvian mix. I often like unusual, new creations
  8. Oh come, we got Wikipedia for our factual needs and Facebook for our spiritual needs. We don’t need religion and priests anymore
  9. Yes! /frown Just kidding. Correct away.
  10. I believe you’re subject to “The American” way of thinking Comrade. Europeans don’t need tangible reasons like money to start wars. Sheer stupidity in the form of nationalism and hatred, powered by ignorance, is behind much of the killing there.
  11. Just waiting for the tweet proclaiming the constitution for fake news, instigated by London to prevent the country (USA) from becoming great again! Judging by the spinelessness of the GOP so far, they would probably not object to Trump declaring himself "Imperator" for life, because the White House has for too long been kept down by filthy bureaucracy and nasty, power hungry democrats. (that's probably going to take two tweets, isn't there something about a maximum length of texts?)
  12. Saw Rise of Skywalker last night. It wasn't awful, but... it did feel like one big fanservice session with little to nothing to contribute on it's own whatsoever. Time to find the shovels and bury the franchise for good? Some of the gags and one liners were funny, but not even a shadow of the old "chemistry" between Ford, Hamill and Fisher. Edit: I think they still have to beat General Hospital or some such for long running soap operas, but even if 10 years short, it at least seems to have higher production values
  13. Sadly, all the sequels were crap, but the original Carmageddon will for me always be the most satisfying game for living out those homicidal urges. Just splattering pedestrians and their dogs all over the footpath =
  14. How different a song can be when done as a cover version... since Rammstein covers seems to be popular Edit: Went and saw Halestorm live here in Melbourne last week. Very poor sound recording on this guys phone (which I assume it is), but couldn't find any high quality recordings form the specific concert
  15. Bought myself a new iPhone. Go away all you Android peasants, shoo! Edit: Cut the old sim card up with a pair of scissors and did a factory defaults reset before tossing the old (7 years IIRC) one in the rubbish bin.
  16. Being the lucky owner of a new mobile phone, I figured I had to really put it through its paces! Started a game of.... yes, Pathfinder Adventures! Because it was the only mobile game I remembered the name of, besides solitaire that is
  17. Scotland explained...
  18. Moved to tech/spoiler friendly section...
  19. As for what that US-style pricing is, I posted a link not long ago. Just repeating it here https://www.aljazeera.com/ajimpact/ranks-1-world-sky-high-cost-vital-medicines-191121224954634.html tl;dr; medication like insulin, blood pressure regulating drugs and heart medicine is between 200% and 2000% more expensive in the US compared to most of the rest of the world (who presumably regulate prices)
  20. Trees are a dangerous to your health. Don't approach one unless accompanied by a trained professional https://www.reifflawfirm.com/100-people-killed-trees-every-year-united-states/
  21. Waiting for Erdogan to pin it on the Kurdish airforce.
  22. Not going to happen anytime soon, even though the death count ought to suggest otherwise, but Scott Morrison (the prime minister) just enjoys the fellatio he gets from Indian coal mining companies, Chinese property investors and domestic electricity company CEO's way too much to want to change status quo there. Well, maybe other than try harder to prevent sustainable energy businesses from becoming competitive.
  23. Last years chess boxing tournament in Berlin
  24. Pfff, it's only Sydney that is about to go up in flames, nothing important Fire fighting planes have dumped some pink coloured fire retardant on the outer suburbs recently, as the fires were getting that close. Grab the fish (Nemo) and run.
  25. Aussies don't need to go to South America to see impressive fires. Got plenty next door Queensland has gotten off "easy" so far with only 180.000 hectares razed, where as New South Wales had 1.65 million hectares razed by fires, battling a 6000 km "fire front". The summer hasn't even started yet, so it might end up being a bad year. Casualties has been "low" though, with only 6 people killed, unlike a few years ago during 2009's "Black Saturday" in Victoria (180 people killed) https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/nov/22/australia-bushfires-factcheck-are-this-years-fires-unprecedented
