  1. Thread split into two new threads... US 2020 election special thread: And a thread for everything not related to US 2020 elections:
  2. According to Faux News, Biden needs to win Nevada to reach 270. Because they are who they are, I wouldn't trust anything they write (other than possibly sports results), but interesting none the less if even the staunchest of Trump supporting media sees it as being close to the end.
  3. From the world of Australia politics. Murdoch may be tolerated the US, but his native country is thoroughly fed up with his constant lies and interfering in politics with deliberate misinformation: "More than 500,000 Australians have signed the petition to parliament since it launched three weeks ago. News Corp Australia controls 70% of local newspaper circulation. Mr Murdoch has not commented on the petition." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-54819803
  4. Old politics thread Please put stuff related to the 2020 US presidential election in the *other* thread, created specifically for this subject?
  5. Old thread Trying to split the subjects a bit. Lets see if we can keep US election stuff in this one
  6. He comes across as someone who needs a walking aid already... much less doing any running
  7. It just means that Biden is working with the devil and they need to pray harder to be heard. I'm not even kidding, I actually believe that's how some of those "evangelicals" think.
  8. From the BBC: There has been no official comment from the Russian government, but the pro-Kremlin politician Vyacheslav Nikonov was unafraid to revel in the uncertainty surrounding the result. "Whoever wins the legal battles half of Americans will not consider them the lawful president," he wrote on Facebook. "Let's stock up on large quantities of popcorn." Not going to bother putting a picture of a smirking Putin here, but I'm almost certain he's busy congratulating himself on a job well done in 2016
  9. I checked up on the BBC what happens if it's a draw and Congress and the Supreme Court can't work it out either in time for the January 21'st deadline. In that case, Nancy Pelosi becomes president. Go figure how people would react to that.
  10. @ComradeMaster Which would probably lead to my previously alluded to Max Mad scenario. I expect GD to be among the survivors in 5-10 years time unless he runs out of ammo. Edit: I have a feeling both Xi and Putin are broadcasting this live as part of an educational program, showing why democracy is bad for you.
  11. "Borrowed" from a blog... It may help with stress relief Ingredients: 1 Hamster, quartered 1 cup diced onion 2 large tomatoes (from your garden) or 1 can of tomatoes Assorted fresh, or canned veggies Preparation: Sprinkle seasoned salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (optional) liberally on the meat. Pour some cooking oil into a large pot (dutch oven). Saute the meat with the onions until well browned. Drain the excess oil, add about 2 cups water, and bring to a boil. Cut up the tomatoes and add. If you use canned tomatoes add them now. Turn down the heat, and let slow cook for at least an hour. Important: older hamsters may require cooking longer than an hour. Check periodically for tenderness. If you don’t you will have a hard time chewing the meat. After the meat is tender, add the veggies, carrots, potatoes, banana pepper, what ever you like. Cook until the veggies are done. An option you can use is, cook up your favorite pasta and serve over the pasta. (eliminate the potatoes).
  12. That game was pure genius... worth running an Amiga emulator for
  13. What happened to option 7? Regardless of the outcome, so much intimidation of voters and dismissal of mail votes takes place that the whole thing becomes contested and Trump refuses to step down? Cue riots like you've never seen before and various local guard units starts to take sides. Whole thing gets messy until some clever general decides to restore order... forcefully?
  14. No, not going to gloat. Regardless of the outcome, I think the US lost. In more ways than one. If anything, a miracle is needed after whoever is the sitting president 2020-2024 to salvage the pieces of a political culture that has been steadily demolished and what seems to be constitutional safeguards being gradually dismantled. It *feels* like the system has become a playground for special interest groups, from Exxon to the NRA and the sacrificial cattle is the "ordinary" American. In the meantime, Putin and Xi are laughing their asses off and various autocrats, populists and despots in the rest of the world are following events with amused interest, wondering how they can benefit the most from the chaos.
  15. Ah yes, something about only have a limited number of characters per message, isn't it? No interest in twitter, but I remember somebody telling me it was for those with short attention spans/limited time to read, who just wants headline/announcement type info.
  16. Try this. A free 7 day trial for online English courses... https://www.lingoda.com/en/
  17. Darwin's theory in action?
  18. From the random category... there's a special atmosphere when Pacific nations play rugby against each other
  19. I'll save you the hard work of googling the numbers... (and no, nothing so stupid as harsh words or derogatory words, just plain old murders of people in all age groups and the murder of cops too) (not going to link to business insider as that is behind a paywall, but according to their numbers, since 1994 329 people have been murdered by far right groups in the US and 0 people by far left groups, but, if someone has a subscription, would love to know the accompanying text from the article) From the horses own mouth so to speak, an itemized list from the last few years (as it says, includes, which means it doesn't include all murders): https://www.congress.gov/116/bills/s894/BILLS-116s894is.xml "Fatal terrorist attacks by far-right-wing extremists include— (A) the August 5, 2012, mass shooting at a Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, in which a White supremacist shot and killed 6 members of the gurdwara; (B) the April 13, 2014, mass shooting at a Jewish community center and a Jewish assisted living facility in Overland Park, Kansas, in which a neo-Nazi shot and killed 3 civilians, including a 14-year-old teenager; (C) the June 8, 2014, ambush in Las Vegas, Nevada, in which 2 supporters of the far-right-wing “patriot” movement shot and killed 2 police officers and a civilian; (D) the June 17, 2015, mass shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, in which a White supremacist shot and killed 9 members of the church; (E) the November 27, 2015, mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in which an anti-abortion extremist shot and killed a police officer and 2 civilians; (F) the March 20, 2017, murder of an African-American man in New York City, allegedly committed by a White supremacist who reportedly traveled to New York “for the purpose of killing black men”; (G) the May 26, 2017, attack in Portland, Oregon, in which a White supremacist allegedly murdered 2 men and injured a third after the men defended 2 young women whom the individual had targeted with anti-Muslim hate speech; (H) the August 12, 2017, attack in Charlottesville, Virginia, in which a White supremacist killed one and injured nineteen after driving his car through a crowd of individuals protesting a neo-Nazi rally, and of which former Attorney General Jeff Sessions said, “It does meet the definition of domestic terrorism in our statute.”; (I) the July 2018 murder of an African-American woman from Kansas City, Missouri, allegedly committed by a White supremacist who reportedly bragged about being a member of the Ku Klux Klan; (J) the October 24, 2018, shooting in Jeffersontown, Kentucky, in which a White man allegedly murdered 2 African Americans at a grocery store after first attempting to enter a church with a predominantly African-American congregation during a service; and (K) the October 27, 2018, mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in which a White nationalist allegedly shot and killed 11 members of the congregation." Edit: So no, not really and beheadings. It seems to be a trademark of ISIS and the thugs in the Mexican drug cartels who thought it was a splendid practice to copy. Nationalists seems to lower the average human IQ.
  20. I think I'll dust off my Zardoz dvd and watch it again
  21. Doing something I haven't done in many years... watching 3 entire seasons on streaming tv (SBS on Demand). It's called Dark Matter. Only finished season 1 as of now. Absolutely love it. Also saw that SyFy cancelled it before doing the last 2 seasons (the overall story arch was written for 5 seasons before shooting began). It was probably too good for them, can't have shows that raises expectations or something, so better screw it up for the viewers halfway through.
  22. Not quite, but close. It's actually an American thing (sold at fairs in the late 1800's and early 1900's), but supposedly invented by people from Hamburg. No hard evidence seems to exist on it's origin, only competing tales. See also Frankfurter, Wiener (German for Vienna), Sandwich (made popular centuries ago by the Earl of Sandwich) ... (funny trivia, a US court ruling decided that tacos and burritos are not a sandwich)
  23. The people of the Indus-Valley civilization may have a different opinion Since the Aryans moved through there (not particularly peacefully) and settled in what is modern day Iran (the Iranians being the descendants of the ancient Aryans) Edit: I've been told Iranians gets annoyed when ignorant people call them "Arabs" (which they aren't). Is this still a thing or are people better educated today than they were 30 years ago???
  24. It's been a while... more Rammstein. This is the censored version so probably only NSFW in some parts of the world (the uncensored, official version can be found on porn sites)
