  1. Yeah, the hypocrisy is real. The same Morrison that decided to sic the federal police on ABC news, raiding their offices and seizing their computers, trying to prevent the story from being revealed in the first place. Being called out by China of all things for his human rights and freedom of press record.
  2. I bought this boxed (dvd) set a long time ago. Came with a tentacle stocking too, to hang up at a fireplace for the Great Old One to bring gifts edit: A photo of my seasonal tentacle and songbooks with lyrics for sing-a-long Chtulhu Carols:
  3. Isn't it funny? They don't trust the Democrats to run a federal government, but a giant, well coordinated conspiracy what works with all the efficiency of a well oiled machinery involving more people than you can shake a stick at? Not a problem, they can organize that and do that during a single election period
  4. Patients who appears to have gotten off "lightly" from Covid infections might still end up with life time damage https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55017301 "The risk of severe illness and death increases markedly for the over 60s. But if the trial discovers that the lung damage occurs across a wider age group and even in those not requiring admission to hospital "it would move the goalposts," according to Prof Gleeson. He believes the lung damage identified by the Xenon scans may be one of the factors behind long Covid, where people feel unwell for several months after infection.
  5. Anyone remember the exploding whale in Fallout (or was it Fallout2)? This is the original
  6. Xi doesn't take criticism very well
  7. The downside of doing your first (casting) job too well?
  8. Looks like BBQ all week long. I might skip it this weekend though as it's just going to be too hot for "hot food". Temperatures in the low 20's at night and late 30's in the afternoon (for those across the Pacific, that's 70-100f) More like a weekend of ice creams and cold drinks I think...
  9. It always felt a bit a odd that he would cast Christian Hayden as Anakin. Compared to David Prowse, he's a little "twerp" with his only 183cm. Prowse was tall (198cm) and was cast for that very reason as Darth Vader. Roughly 6ft vs 6ft6 Hayden would stare at Prowse's chest if they were put next to each other.
  10. Simple problems require simple solutions. Ask a child to solve the trolley dilemma! (save the one or save the many)
  11. Listening to Heilung is like stepping into a time machine. The old world before the scourge of Christianity swept over northern Europe
  12. Being a serial winner of elections is one way of escaping the prosecution for corruption. Of course, you need to create constant conflicts to stay in power. Looks like Ethiopia has joined the club of countries with leaders that wants to throw out the status quo and turn it into authoritarian states. After having subjugated the southern ethnic groups it was Tigray that got to feel the ambitions of a new Erdogan in the making.
  13. Yeah, why won't they talk about that?
  14. In local news... looks like we're heading for a hot summer. Temperatures have already broken existing records for this time of year. While 40-45C (104-113F) isn't unheard of, those normally occurs in the summer. Bear in mind, it's not summer yet, only spring down here. Makes you wonder how much combustible material is left after last years fire season, because if this keeps up, whatever is left is going to be very dry already. https://www.news.com.au/technology/environment/weekend-scorcher-as-extreme-heatwave-lashes-parts-of-australia/news-story/4532b4585dd8eb6a88b2798e91749ae4
  15. Getting to the end game in Xenonauts. I might change my team composition and gear a bit. The super heavy armour performed surprisingly well on my 2 heavy weapon guys. I might need a second guy with pistol and shield for door opening though. Didn't make it to the point where I have to decided to head for boss or take out reactors first I also wonder if I should drop the tank and add 4 more troopers instead. I know I'll probably build a few more wolf armour and stick some of the guys that currently have jackal armour in it. The amount incoming fire on this mission is ridiculous. Never mind that one of my heavy guys got killed in a burst of friendly fire
  16. I guess different rules applies when you are arrested (something about what you say can and will be used against you), but I suppose he wasn't technically "arrested". I remember bugger all about what went on that long ago. Anyway, might be old news by now, but the appeal in Pennsylvania got rejected "The 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals had been asked to consider a lower court's decision to dismiss the Trump campaign's attempts to invalidate millions of mail-in votes in Pennsylvania. The lower court ruling had paved the way for the battleground state to certify Joe Biden's win, giving him 20 vital electoral college votes and effectively the presidency. In giving the appeal court's opinion, Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote: "Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so."" https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-55109168
  17. Not much to say about Brisbane really... it's a city? Never were particularly fond of cities, always preferring to live as far as way as I could get while still have a job in said city. I guess the river is Brisbane's defining feature, shaping it's layout and history (and the evolving suburbs spreading out from the city center) The annual Riverfire festival (cancelled 2020 for covid reasons) Following the river to the sea and the outer suburbs there A hostel in Brisbane. Lots of backpackers in the city most years
  18. Double post... a Norwegian/Danish/German band playing something... not sure what. Instruments used from the wiki: drums, including one with horse skin painted with human blood, two drums with deerskin and a drum with goatskin bones, including a human forearm bone and deer bones a buffalo horn rattle a clay rattle with human ashes a Hindu ritual bell antiques from temples a reconstructed silver cup from the Viking Age a ravanahatha (an ancient Indian instrument) other rattles, whistles and percussive instruments Time for some northern European culture Edit to add a second video:
  19. As corrupt as the Australian legal system is... there are always some worse off than yourself. This activist in Singapore got charged with illegal assembly. Yeah, can't have those giant crowds in these covid times, right? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-55068007
  20. Grrrr!!!... bloody wankers. Africa and South America stabbed me in the back and deserted my holy mission to rid earth of the alien menace. Ah well, they'll change their tune once they get lined up on the meat processing plants. I'll ignore their pitiful screams for help and pleas to save their DNA from being harvested. So, ummm, yeah. Paying the price for the lack of foresight when creating my 3 bases in xenonauts. I only just discovered yesterday, that I can build more than one radar on a site to extend radar range. Something to keep in mind for next run. Getting close to the end of the various tech trees I think. Started to upgrade the condors (and the lonely corsair) to marauder interceptors (2 at each base). Still supported by two Foxtrots at each base for the extra punch against large and massive ships. Almost all of my troopers are running around in jackal armour. Something I probably do need to fix. Assault guys has Wolf armour, but I I'm only just done researching the second tier jetpack enabled armour and I can build the armour that turns an infantry man into a walking tank (heavy weapons only), but I'm not sure if I really want that kind of limited usability armour??? Knocked one of the big bosses senseless (Praetor), so now I'm researching "The Endgame". May the best humans win.
  21. That reminds me I really need to fill out one of those organ donor cards
  22. Best handball player ever! Just kidding, it was impossible to not gawk at the screen when watching him play. So completely in a class of his own. Napoli never got close to winning Serie A again I think.
  23. Just some teenage memories resurfacing...
  24. Scotland the Brave!... And no, I'm not being sarcastic. Hands up anyone who feel like sniggering at the following article. If you do, you're not alone, just ignorant. It's a significant expense, that is no laughing matter, especially for struggling families. As mentioned in The Guardian article below, stigma around the subject is no small part of the problem. Scotland has become the first country in the world to make period products free for all. MSPs unanimously approved the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill on Tuesday. There is now a legal duty on local authorities to ensure that free items such as tampons and sanitary pads are available to "anyone who needs them". https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-51629880 The issue isn't new (2017): https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/mar/17/girls-from-poorer-families-in-england-struggle-to-afford-sanitary-protection Charities, campaigners and teachers report scale of the problem, saying more must be done to tackle stigma Girls from low-income families across England are struggling to afford sanitary protection, with many teachers buying tampons for their students or seeking help with supplies from charities and voluntary groups, the Guardian has been told. Charities, campaigners and teachers say that the problem is happening in cities and rural areas across the country, describing girls missing school, using donations, or wearing makeshift protection during their period. I know, why should I care, right? I'm a guy. I don't have a partner nor daughters, so I could just not care, right? Which is an attitude that leaves humanity stuck in the dark ages (IMHO). I'm not going to benefit directly from the Scottish parliaments decision, but... I do think access to basic necessities (and I do consider this a basic necessity) should be a not unreasonable expectation in a civilized society, just like healthcare and education.
  25. I know it's a sort of way out there as far as sources go, but Putin had some interesting insights into Trumps popularity with his base. From a Pre-G20 interview last year (after laughing off the idea that he arranged for Trump to get elected). Tl;dr; Trump saw how costly globalization had been for the middle class and seized on that. Edit: Crap, doesn't like embedding, need to click link to youtube to see. Fast forward to 4:52 for the part I wanted to share
