Heh. looking at the picture in the thread link. the Australian summer of bush fires lasted just up to the point where covid struck. Now I'm waiting for that giant, radioactive lizard (thank you Fukushima) to wade out of the water up there around Cairns and start its stomping march down the East Coast.... -

I wonder why it took me so many years to discover this guy. I've been on a youtube watching spree recently. Absolutely love his ability to cut through BS and call things out -
Acoustic Rammstein. No less disturbing than the hard rock version...

it probably wouldn't be approved in the West because of the high plutonium content Life in Melbourne these days... (she's exaggerating though, the fine for individuals breaking the quarantine is only $20000 not $100000, the latter being what businesses get fined)

Feels a bit odd splitting posts between this and the metal thread, but whatever. A bit more Rammstein from their "young" days. About the city of Moscow "This city is a prostitute She has red spots on her forehead Her teeth are made of gold She's fat and yet so lovely Her mouth falls to my valley when I pay her for it She takes off her clothes but only for money The city that keeps me in suspense" "She is old and nevertheless beautiful I can't resist her I can't resist She powders her old skin and has gotten her breasts rebuilt rebuilt She makes me horny I suffer torment She dances for me I have to pay I have to pay She sleeps with me but only for money It's still the most beautiful city in the world" "I see something, that you don't see (When you close your eyes) When you sleep deeply in the night I see something, that you don't see (When you kneel before me) When you lie before me I see something, that you don't see (When you touch me with your mouth) When you talk to me I see something, that you'll never see One, two, three!"

The things that sometimes sees the light of day when laws change... I was actually reading up on the covid situation in Melbourne but thought this was interesting. Interesting not just the number of allegations, those are hard to avoid if you serve long enough I suppose, but these guys are not exactly surviving on pennies. The NYPD's 10 most unwanted: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/datablog/2020/aug/04/new-york-police-department-allegations-complaints -
@Guard Dog originally brought this up in the funny thread, but it turns out there is an interesting story behind it How the ants survived harsh conditions as a group rather than individuals (good little soviet ants!) https://www.stpetersburgnews.net/news/266019898/the-soviet-era-nuclear-bunker-cannibal-ants-mystery-explained

Hey, fair is fair. wanna bet many of those protesters have been defunded throughout their whole existence? Sorry, you almost had me there (until I saw it was Faux News) I did click the link and read the article though. Please give my condolences to the poor back door that was shot (while he was in the front yard). He still leads the mob 3-0 in killings (edit: which may be perfectly justifiable, the story didn't tell). -

Taking a break from Rammstein. *Sigh* they just don't make bands like they used to anymore

Yes, that's why drowned people eventually "float" to the surface once decomposition sets in. But the latter part raises an interesting question. Lots of effort has gone into how fast radioactive isotopes decompose. What is the halflife of a zombie? I.e. at what point would it have decomposed so much that it is no longer a zombie? Does gender and body mass affect the halflife of zombies?
-
Corpses often float because the decomposing of tissue generates gas. Not going to link, but I'm sure youtube has a video somewhere of somebody brave/silly enough to kick the corpse of a dead animal, just for it to explode like an inflated balloon. Edit: to stay a bit on topic...

Speaking of which, not sure if any politics is involved in the explosion (more likely to be corruption and inefficiency), but the explosion has killed at least 137 people and wounded more than 5000 so far. That in a country that is already suffering from years of war and internal struggle between various factions, from Iran backed militias to Christian militias (the latter being behind some of the worst massacres in that country the last 50 years) Not sure if viewable outside Australia, but some strong scenes from the blast while it happned https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-05/the-explosion-was-captured-from-multiple-angles/12525422?nw=0

My little brother used to be very much into the medieval reenactment thing. Besides having things like Zweihanders and Halberds hanging on the wall or standing around, he also had replicas of some of the very first fire arms and a license to make gun powder (the latter being very unusual in Denmark). At some point, he had a little cannon modeled after something out of the hundred years war (can't remember what those things were called) standing on the floor at home.

Alternating between a game in progress on Master of Orion 2 and War in Russia. Dosbox ftw. Edit: Playing the Soviet side in WiR this time. Waiting desperately for the first rain (or snow) to slow down the German panzer divisions before I get steam rolled. -
Moved this one from the funny thread as it is really more political than funny Honest government ads... Australia's best export since AC/DC
