For Baldur's Gate Fans: New Expansion
Excalibur_2102 replied to Omnicron's topic in Computer and Console
When did they do that? I assume he might be talking about Trent saying things like the game was poorly coded because they were new to video game development back in 1998, and maybe the bugs that were still present in the games. I dont really see that as "Trashing the game" though, especially as some of them worked and progammed the original, so they would know if it was a mess or not. Cant recall them saying "If you dont like this then you arent a BG fan," or "BG and IE suck," though. -
For Baldur's Gate Fans: New Expansion

For the record, that's actually grammatically correct (but "sure" is spelled without an "h".) Id be interested to hear your actual opinion on this Andrea, as I noticed you liking alot of the negative comments targeted at the games (and im sure you used to be a big supporter of beamdog?). While I personnally found some stuff in the EE's lacking I generally thought the developers hearts were in the right place (though that alone doesnt make a great game, I know), and always wanted to see some proper original content from them other than what they shipped with the EEs. I guess up till now I havent seen enough from them to make a decision to support the company or not, though I do think they did a good job with IWDEE. However, the quality of siege of dragonspear will be make or break for me. I will be paying specific attenion to the writiing and how the story plays out. If they blow this i'll likely be done with the company. -
Physical game patching
Excalibur_2102 replied to UberPz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No idea.. I actually thought they were using a standalone patcher for the non-drm version. Whether they do that or just upload the patches to the backer portal for us to download manually I dont mind. Thought they would have had all this sorted out already though considering how long it has taken to get the discs printed and sent to us. I hope they do actually plan to patch this version :/. lol -
Sawyer on vacation?
Excalibur_2102 replied to MotelOK's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It was pretty clear he meant the majority of the target audience, not the majority of the people on the planet... -
I actually contacted obsidian directly because I had received a bunch of stuff (mousepad, t shirt, postcard) without the actual CE box which didnt make sense to me (Im in the UK btw). Turns out paradox have a "back order" of collectors boxes in the UK, due to some being damaged in transit. Its good that they are checking these and not sending out damaged ones at least, but it does mean I have to wait longer for my CE... In fact Im half tempted to ask them if they will just hold on to it until they get the printed discs and send them both together.

Not once did I say you were alone in your opinions, but I'm not entirely sure what Promises and Pledges from obsidian you're referring to that htey did not meet. Here are the opening two paragraphs from their kickstarter: "Obsidian Entertainment and our legendary game designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Josh Sawyer are excited to bring you a new role-playing game for the PC. Project Eternity (working title) pays homage to the great Infinity Engine games of years past: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Project Eternity aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPG's that we enjoyed making - and playing. At Obsidian, we have the people responsible for many of those classic games and we want to bring those games back… and that’s why we’re here - we need your help to make it a reality!" They stated a lot that they wanted to do something that "Pays homage to" the IE games, and "recaptures the imagination and depth" etc etc, and the fact is that a lot of people think that they were successful in doing that, even if you (AND OTHERS) didnt. For better or worse, there are a lot of things that PoE does differently to the IE games but it certainly does not mean that it wasn't successful in "paying homage" to them. So no, you're "standards" and opinions are not your own, but they sure as hell aren't shared by everyone who backed this game either.

Always refreshing to see people write elaborated and well reasoned statements that really contribute to the discussion and enlighten everyone involved by giving clever insights Pot calling the kettle black much. I could write an essay or I could just say the game didn't do what it promised and that has left me sour. If for some reason you actually do want some essay length arguements followed by massive threads of discussion I could link you that kind of thing. Or you could just google it yourself. Well just in case you aren't a troll here is one of the better (and much better written than anything I could write) ones which I agree with to a reasonable extent : http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/my-collected-criticism-on-pillars-of-eternity-very-minor-spoilers.98295/ Well, ive no doubt you could write an essay on what, in your view, constitutes a spiritual successor to IE games but thats entirely besides the point. Because what you think makes a game "IE like" might not be the same for others. If for example some people just wanted the atmosphere, hand drawn 2d backgrounds, top down iso RPG like the old IE then thats what they got. It is similar to the IE games in all those areas. If you wanted a combat system which is very similar then you were likely disappointed because it does not seem to be that way. Maybe there are other "not IE like" aspects to the game but I haven't played enough to comment yet.

oookay.. I got an email a few days ago and was happy! But I get my stuff today and it included the Mouse pad, t-shirt, postcard and soundtrack add on... So I am still waiting on the empty CE box? Why not send them all at once? I'm just checking to see if it was the same for others, or whether I should be worried that they don't actually have my CE box. On the shipping note and email it did not mention the box. Also slightly disappointed the soundtrack is in a cardboard sleeve, rather than a proper plastic case, but oh well.... That XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL T-shirt fits great though!
