  1. The only items that must return are Frost Darts. Again and again.
  2. That's interesting. Pork is a food item Alternately-- and I really hope this isn't the case-- it could mean that [shudder] prostitute bonuses haven't been left to rot in the dustbin besides the gold-named NPCs, and someone on the team is getting "clever" with placeholder names. EDIT: OK, it's food. Bullet dodged... for now.
  3. This one amuses me because it means that a Priest of Wael is among the characters most likely to miss the reward. I guess getting some direct deity interaction is reward enough!
  4. The most interesting new information there is that Sawyer hasn't read Lord of Light. (And that somebody, having been briefed on the story for Deadfire, immediately recommended it to him.) Josh, you should read that book. It's good. one wonders if eothas is standing in for brahma/kali, nirriti, or perhaps even sam. more than a few parallels 'tween the book and poe lore. considering how involved josh is with the lore o' poe, am actual a bit surprised he hasn't read lord of light. HA! Good Fun! Eothas as Sam would work. Member of the supernaturally 'elect' commits apostasy, is exiled, returns, then wages war to tear down the supposed "godhood" of his former cohorts? That last part could easily be the plot to Deadfire. I guess that would make the PC ... Tak? (Well, someone who can decide to assume that role, among others.)

  6. Our recent CA trip was alongside some folks who now live on the east coast but who grew up in SoCal. They have rather mass-market tastes, thus we *had* to stop off at all the drive-thru joints that they remembered from their youth, but can't get "back east." As such, I present the following listicle: West-Coast-Exclusive Quick Service Restaurant Chains 1) El Pollo Loco 2) Del Taco (It's basically Taco Bell, but good. And with a side of fries for some reason.) 3) In-N-Out (Underwhelming, given the reputation. They serve literally 2 things-- there's no excuse for the fries to be so sh***y) ... 999) Jack in the Box (Who actually eats this?) (Carl's Jr. doesn't count, as Hardee's exists out here. Also, it sucks, but not as much as Jack in the Box does.) Aside, this thread again makes me miss having the time to actually do somewhat creative cooking. It's just too hard a sell to the wife to ask her to watch the boys (1 & 3 yo) without help for 3 hours on a Sunday afternoon so that I can make something new and interesting. (Someday they'll be old enough that I can just tell them to watch TV or play with their legos or whatever. Sigh.) I've been reduced to reiteration on my staples, with emphasis on the items that the kids will deign to eat. (The baby likes my chili. His older brother just wants a plain hot dog. I'll make a meatloaf tomorrow-- they both eat that.)
  7. Yo. It's been a while since I spent time around here for things other than Deadfire news. 'Sup? Life continues around here, I suppose. The two young dudes are now 3.5 yrs and 16 months old, respectively. We took a big ol' trip to SoCal last week while their daycare was closed. Wife has lots of family in the area, so we rented a place in Redondo Beach and did some visiting between sandcastle projects. The flights went shockingly well, but the jet lag on the return has been brutal. Jet lag aside, the little guy is a lot of fun, although he's been very clingy with Mama lately. The 3-year-old... is 3, and, man, does that try my patience. Work is alright. Got a marginally fancier title back in November and a nicer office in May. The window is pretty sweet, but I've yet to come up with a decent glare solution that doesn't either cover it entirely or allow anybody standing in the doorway to see what's on my computer screens. Anything more than that probably belongs in the politics thread, and I ain't got the stamina to wade through that, these days.
  8. Probably for the best. Having an older boss-type-guy repeatedly get caught gazing creepily at a young woman who he (presumably) supervises is probably not the kind of image that the company wants to be projecting to the public.
  9. I do not agree. Nobody really knows it because nobody really watched much of the 49ers last year, but Kaepernick performed pretty well in a bad situation. He's been growing as a player, but the general fanbase hasn't noticed much. He's a legit starter in the NFL. Probably an above-average one. The Vick comparison is interesting, but there are a few key reasons why Kaepernick's situation is very different. First off, Vick had served his time and made the appropriate public expressions of remorse for his crimes. Kaepernick has done nothing criminal, but he also hasn't apologized for his "offenses" in a way that teams can sell to dubious fans. Second, the NFL hasn't spent the last generation tying themselves to animal welfare causes for marketing purposes. They have, however, poured a ridiculous amount of time and effort into field-sized flags, military color guards, celebrity anthem performances, F-18 flyovers, partnerships with military-related charities, etc. Patriotism is a deliberate marketing tool for the business that is the NFL. Third, racial politics weren't involved in the Vick thing. NFL ownership is keenly aware that they are a bunch of predominantly white dudes, making a lot of money exhibiting the talents of guys who are mostly black, to an audience that is mostly white. Open discussion of racial politics is very dangerous to this kind of arrangement. Lastly, Vick was sui generis. With Kaepernick, other players were following him. The incentive to squash this kind of thing before it spreads further is strong, in a way that wasn't the case with Vick. As for the Cutler move, Miami just threw $10M away for fan morale. In reality, unless you've got a young guy on the roster who could surprise you with a Brady-like emergence (or even a Cassel-like emergence to generate some trade value), losing your starting QB to injury at this point in the year is a season-ender. Better to acknowledge it now than later. A 34-year-old, post-labrum-tear Cutler gets them maybe a couple more wins than going with Moore all year, and maybe they get the excitement of being in the wildcard chase late in the season. It's nice to have hope of finishing 8-8 instead of 6-10, but it falls well short of making them a legitimate championship contender, and you're giving up useful long-term resources (cap space and 2018 draft position) to do so.
  10. Well, The Cutest Cat was already in Pillars 1, and it seems likely that Eothas' rising was not the healthiest of things for the Watcher's menagerie of pets. So it's probably going to take a little more than just opening a can of tuna to get her to come back...
  11. Arkemyr's named spells in Pillars 1 (Dazzling Lights, Wondrous Torment, Capricious Hex) were debuffs, largely affecting the target's mental state. (You may be thinking of Kalakoth's Minor Blights.) I could see Arkemyr being the trickster archmage, with his (her?) manor filled with the kind of traps intended more to confuse, bewilder, and frustrate potential thieves than to kill them.
  12. Some definite weirdness going on with shadows there. Some of the pups seem slightly "off" to me-- front legs a little too far back on the torso.
  13. Seems like Josh has a high chance of showing up lately, if you ask a language-related question on the Eternity subreddit. Here he is today, on the language spoken by Pale Elves in The White That Wends:
  14. I can't tell if this is serious or not, but I approve irrespectively. Far more clever than I could have hoped for. I don't think it's entirely serious, but it's still funny. As Max said, the devs can always use that community multiclass names thread for ideas, I'm sure the other communities have their own ideas as well, plenty to go around. The titles are clearly attributed in the accompanying tweet to team artist Mitch Loidolt. Presumably, they're placeholder titles in his UI work, most likely chosen for entertainment value.
  15. Interrupts are in. Running interference to keep the Wizard safe while he completes his arcane rituals seems like fun gameplay to me. (As does the reverse-- getting through to the enemy caster before he can melt your party's faces off.) In general, a shift to fewer fights that are more consistently challenging/consequential sounds great from where I'm standing.
  16. Probably only for those companions who are locked into a single class. It makes less sense for someone like Eder, who take level 1 as either a Fighter or Rogue, to have a custom class designed for either of those.
  17. And the follow-up. Excerpt: The bit about "individual spell choice" makes me wonder-- will it still be the case that Priests and Druids can choose from all of the spells at a particular level, at all times?
  18. New Tumblr post on the per-rest/per-encounter issue.
  19. Ogres on ships gives me a bad feeling that Korgrak is a potential returning NPC. He fits the pantaloons criteria as something mechanically useless (LOL -6 Prestige!) but with potential for amusing flavor. (I say "bad feeling" because he didn't make it in the playthrough I'll be importing first. I wasn't willing to let my Waelite Priest pick up any "Rational" reputation points to save him.)
  20. Some (I think) new info on Chanters in a jesawyer post in a thread on the ProjectEternity subreddit:
  21. Aedyr also had Readceras as an agricultural colony, producing Vorlas dyes. Distance is certainly a factor. Rauatai and the Vailian Republics are both closer to Deadfire than Aedyr is. And Aedyr doesn't get mentioned as a seafaring power to the extent that those nations do. They could presumably defend trade routes between their homeland and the Eastern Reach, but might not have the naval might to extend those to Deadfire. And, yeah, after two major colonial rebellions, there might not be much further appetite in Aedyran government for sinking resources into colonies.
  22. tiny hands Well, that outfit does look like the sort of thing that a person smelling of cabbage would wear...
  23. I imagine that there would still be a check/roll against defenses in there somewhere. A high-deflection character should have a decent chance of walking through a basic dart trap unscathed. I don't find Traps to be a particularly fun mechanic to deal with (I hated Durlag's Tower), but they're probably too tied to the audience's expectations for the genre to toss now. I'll be happy if Deadfire makes incremental progress by removing the XP for disarming them.
