Force adept is a D20 class that gives a character Force abilities but without any kind of common training (Jedi or Sith). This results in a class with lots of ranks in Force abilities, but relatively weak in combat.
-
By the looks of him, I'd say he's a fringer. By his special ability and his droid, I'd say he's a tech specialist. We'll see.

Agreed. Last time I checked though, this topic was named 'Ooh Unarmed Combat Viable'. If you want to discuss melee vs ranged, start a new topic, I'll be sure to read it. You are correct again. The problem with ranged weapons is that in KotOR they dealt ridiculous damage for the most part (gotta love that fully upgraded Baragwin heavy repeater tho ). That should be fixed in order to give ranged fighters an advantage while the melee fighter tries to close in... No one said Jedi are invincible. In fact you find a lot of clues of Jedi which got killed by non force-users throughout the game. However I think that in those cases when the lightsaber is not enough to protect from incoming fire, the Force can be used to deflect projectiles (a la Jedi Outcast). It all depends on what the PC is thrown against.
-
Correct. If he gets close enough, your weapon will be a bigger problem to you than to him. On top of that, if your opponent has some grappling training, you are done for. The catch is, he needs to get close enough, which in most cases, would get him killed. Now on to the topic. Lightsabers are as swords except for two things: they can cut in any and all directions and the blade is weightless. With a weightless blade it would be near to impossible to overwhelm a swordsman by getting too close, since even a wrist gesture would be enough to sever an arm, as opposing to any blade which has weight. That's what I thought. In fact I would see fitting that unarmed characters were given a defense bonus similar or greater to that of a Jedi, but that is a long way from bare-handedly blocking lightsabers. Anyway, I don't know how this topic has gone off so, since I seriously doubt such a feature is going to be included. Oh well...

Well... it turns out I myself have practiced Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years, and also did saber fencing for two years, so I know what I'm talking about. If your friend finds it very easy to disarm you it can be because of one of the following: 1.- You are a poor fencer. 2.- You are not trained in an actual effective means of disabling an enemy with a blade, but in a competition oriented sport, instead. 3.- This is the most likely possibility - you are not trying to kill your friend with your weapon, in fact you are probably even trying not to hurt him at all. I can't think of any real example of how a blade should be used to effectively neutralize an enemy, since such martial talents are useless nowadays. However, if you can, I would suggest you watch some Kendo competitions and training sessions to realize the difference between fencing and actual sword fighting (well, not really, but it's closer to the real thing). Watching a Kendo fighter perform, it's easy to realize how slim are the chances of an unarmed figher not being quickly overwhelmed by his sword-wielding opponent. Really, when I write something, I don't just make it up, even if that's what you are used to. No need to get personal. There is a difference between a flame bait and a reply to an absurd statement. If you don't like blunt answers, think carefully before posting.

Is it? I have yet to see a sword that can be used to penetrate a solid metal door several inches thick in a few seconds. Right. That is the reason why ancient armies went into battle unarmed instead of carrying swords. The undisputable superiority of the bare fist against temper steel. I advise you stop taking The Matrix as a personal combat Bible. You are all missing the point: somebody had the 'brilliant' idea of a martial artist blocking an energy blade (not hilt, not wrists) with nothing more than bare hands and sheer strength of will. So was clearly explained in the rules and left no room for interpretation. I'll try to find the actual description of the particular ability, and post it here.

That's because the power has been made that way for KotOR. In the PnP throwing the lightsaber was treated as throwing any other object, so it was not a specific force ability. To throw a lightsaber, you did a ranged attack roll with the usual modifiers. If you failed the roll, the saber didn't impact, and that was about it. An example of this would be Vader missing Luke when he tossed his lightsaber and screwed that walkway instead in ROTJ. No 'automatic hit' and certainly not automatic critical. But then again, the Force power system in the D20 is way different and IMO wouldn't have worked out well for a CRPG.

Which Lady Is For You?

They fixed your pole? Odd... I'd rather not know the details. Talking from experience? OMFG... I actually wrote a reply on this topic... -
As I said, you are not reading. Those abilities have nothing to do with the Force, they are intended for soldier-type characters with no affinity with the force whatsoever. The interesting part of parrying a lightsaber blow is the possibility to disarm the opponent wielding the lightsaber. If that's not what you are intent on, it's better to dodge the attack altogether. You can hardly disarm an opponent if you are holding his wrists. Furthermore, an attempt to grab an opponent's wrists would constitute a trip attack, and would trigger an attack of opportunity on your foe's part, while a parry would not. In the event of a successful parry, I believe you are given the chance to disarm your opponent, without allowing any attacks of opportunity upon yourself. I don't remember all the details because it's been a while since I last played PnP, so corrections are welcome. What I write are simply the PnP rules, which supposedly are the base for the combat system of KotOR. What you write is what you believe is possible in a 'real SW' fight. Those are two very different things. But as I said before, the PnP combat system is too complex to be included in a CRPG, so I expect it to be simplified greatly, as it should.

Sure. Only you don't need any force-using class levels to acquire the Ter
-
Not in SW since it appears somebody thought that with the proper training, lightsaber blows can be deflected bare-handedly. Probably the same person who thought every sword is made of cortosis...
-
Thanks. I knew I had read it somewhere. Well, seeing how complex those feats are compared to the standard CRPG combat, my guess is they are simply going to either give an unarmed character extra attacks, a defense bonus, or maybe stun attacks.
-
Care to tell me what sourcebook did you get that from? I'd really like to review a few things about unarmed combat, but I don't have the time to read ALL of them again.
-
How long? 40 years? Because that's the time between the Exar Kun war and the events narrated in KotOR. I'd rather not have a 70 year old 'rogue hero' in my party, thank you. Oh and one other thing. It's not unheard of that Mandalore would pledge allegiance to an outsider who beat him, so if that turns out to be the case, it suits me just fine.
-
It would seem your efforts to make that understood are somewhat... useless...

At Level 20 -> 2d10 +Str bonus. You call this "little damage" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, I know. I think a monk's fists become vorpal weapons in epic levels too. But, compared to, say a 20th level fighter with equipment according to his level, monks deal less damage. Not to mention you have to actually stay alive long enough to reach 20th level. But that still wouldn't explain why anyone would want to go unarmed in KotOR, since jedi receive the most advantages of any class when it comes to melee combat, plus, lightsaber proficiency.

How many times have you beaten Kotor?

What's with all the polls... BTW Sarjahurmaaja, great page that of your sig. SC2 was one of my favorite games of all time... -
There is still the issue of what the advantage of unarmed combat would be. In D&D there's a reason for playing a monk since monks receive major advantages to compensate for the little damage it can deal compared to other classes, but in SW? Oh, and I do believe that in some D20 sourcebook there was this martial arts mastery feat or SQ that actually allowed to parry lightsaber blows with bare hands... I can't remember what was it called. Ter

That would apply to T3 as well... But I don't think that's coherent story-wise. Using the PnP as a reference, I'd say Revan was around level 18 at the end of KotOR, and the rest of the party substantially less powerful. It is clearly stated that Mandalore 'died at the hands of the Jedi Revan'.

I know I'm going to get flamed big time for this but... she sounds like Salome Jens, who played the female shapeshifter in ST:DS9.

That makes sense. If the PC goes dark an army is going to be needed to take over the galaxy, what better than a mandalorian army? And if the PC stays in the light, somebody needs to be there to stand against the sith army now that the republic and the jedi have been dealt with...
-
Hi, Akari 1.- Can you tell if the environment will react to the status of the PC? i.e. people not addressing you as 'padawan' if you have 3 levels of sith lord. 2.- About the walk mode, it felt kinda awkward in KotOR. Has it been modified so the PC walks at a 'normal' speed? Thanks!

Something I don't understand...

And then there's the example of count Dooku not being at all withered, to the extent of being able to pose as the public head of an apparently fair cause. I can't remember very well but didn't admiral Karath seem a bit... dark in KotOR? It was stated that he had been corrupted by the dark side. Or maybe this whole thing has to do with having the characters mesh well with the dark theme of the wallpaper. It may not necessarily mean they are physically affected in the game. -

AFAIK, it hasn't been confirmed that the name is Nihilus. However there's an avatar in these boards you can choose which depicts him/her, and reads 'Darth Nihilus'...
