  1. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/803/803659p1.html Screenshots...it looks like Dungeon Siege in space. Was DS2 an improvement over DS1? Eh, my eternal optimism is taking a bit of a blow.
  2. I know I didn't.
  3. Huh...that sounds like my knowledge base as well.
  4. Shanny will do pretty well playing with Drury. I didn't realize he scored 12 points during the playoffs last year. I'm sure Volo was complaining about his late season production (he's on ignore from me), but 12 points in the playoffs in 10 games is a very solid contribution. He also didn't get greeduy with his contract, nice.
  5. Heh, that's like preferring a woman who doesn't nag. They don't exist!
  6. I think you mean "represents an entire generation that's only interested in reading Harry Potter". Potter is a gateway drug. Sure, they may only read about Harry at first, but eventually they'll get the urge to read about other wizards. It might start off as an innocent Neil Gaiman book, but eventually they'll be full-blown readers. Seriously though, Rowlings has surpassed even CS Lewis and RL Stine in terms of getting young people to read. Whether you are a fan or not, I don't get how you can discount the importance she has had on young readers. The Potter books are by no means light reading, and children are challenging themselves to read these books even though they are usually many levels above their grade level reading. It's also great to see a book become such a major attraction. I had the same feeling about Dan Brown, I didn't think he was all that great of a writer, but tons of people were reading the Da Vinci code. Literature needs superstars like this, it helps every genre and every author.
  7. Harry Potter represents an entire generation that is suddenly interested in reading again, so I'm pretty pro-Potter.
  8. Well, the PS3 is more expensive, and will take another year to develop a solid stable of games.
  9. Awesome comics, Tale. Did you ever submit them to Blizzard? They are better than many of the ones they have up.
  10. He's not the only one.
  11. I'd imagine if you were a big fan of the TV series and the original movie, it would be harder to be a fan of this one. Personally, I was pretty young when I played with the toys and watched the TV show, and I never really got too into it. So I guess that's why the Spec Ops squad laying down fire on that Scorpion thing was more exciting than inaccurate to me. I loved the use of military technology in the film. The problem for you Mesh, is that it's gotten critical acclaim, I've heard nothing but positive buzz from most folks,a nd it's definitely having box office success. So although you may feel it sucks, unfortunately all other signs point to "great movie".
  12. When i think of Cyberpunk, I usually think of Shadowrun.
  13. Francis Ford Coppola blew up an entire island at the intro of "Apocalypse Now!" (Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, all highpayed actors) And blew up a forrest and a village as well without Colonel Kurtz drinking a nice can of Coca-Cola. Need another example? I would like an example that wasn't made over 20 years ago, yes. Read over this trivia, and you can probably see why movies aren't made like this anymore. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078788/trivia
  14. I'm confused how you think these big budget movies with A-list actors and top notch SFX get made without corporate sponsors. This isn't a home movie, you had giant robots crashing through buildings and freeways.
  15. I think any sentient being that is forced to ride around in Guybrush's pants deserves an honorary party member badge.
  16. You mean Murray? He wasn't a party member either. Doh! It's been awhile, I did mean Murray. He was definitely a party member. You carried him aroud in your inventory for pete's sake, I'm pretty sure he earned the title.
  17. I forgot Bob the talking skull from the Monkey Island series. He really laid the groundwork for future talking skulls in video games.
  18. Transformers was the best action-comedy I have seen in many years. The acting was top-notch and the special effects were incredible. I can't really see how you could make a better movie about giant robots fighting each other. Michael Bay kept the lame emo crap out of the movie and focused solely on action. The Special Forces squad in the movie is pretty awesome. It wasn't over the top and it struck me as the proper way a Spec Ops team would respond to giant robot attacks.
  19. 1. Fidel - Because he kills the annoying chick in JA1. 2. Ivan - Who needs English? 3. Grunty - Ja 4. Hitman - What's happening, Ace? 5. Magic - No explanation necessary 6. Mike - I think I liked him better when I killed him in JA2...he developed more character that way. 7. Biff - Most inspirational leader ever 8. Razor and Haywire - Dream team with knives 9. Fox - Made emotionally unstable gun nuts sexy again. 10. Nails - Don't touch the leather!
  20. My wife and I made an exodus to the local Kwik-E-Mart. Don't hold the poor child accountable for our geekiness. Surprisingly, there were about a dozen people snapping pictures in there with us. They were all out of actual product though, so no Buzz cola for me.
  21. Jy Kon made a very good point about the Wii being more marketed towards families. I agree with that being similiar to the controversy over the Marlboro camel. Tale, I've already explained the differences between Kill Bill and a game like Manhunt. I'm not saying it's not a thin line between art and exploitive violence, but the line is there. And the general public makes it pretty clear when it is crossed, which it has with Manhunt 2. It's not like one country is banning the game, multiple institutions have come to the same conclusion, the game is trash.
  22. I believe I can fly.
  23. Hey, I started rock climbing last summer, and I noticed a huge improvement in my hockey game fairly quickly. My upper body strength skyrocketed, but I think my balance has improved as well. I've never had the self-discipline to lift weights consistently, so I definitely recommend climbing as an alternative. Unfortunately it's not available everywhere.
  24. I disagree. The motivation behind these holidays was not to celebrate the birth or crucification of Jesus, but to get more followers. The motivation behind a celebration gives the meaning for such events. that is sooo not true Read up on your history. It's not history, your statement of "motivation behind a celebration gives meaning to the event" is highly debatable. Do you think poor folks care that rich folks use charity as a tax write-off? No, they are just happy to have charity. It's way more complex than you are making it, and the fact is the motivation of setting December 25th as the birth of Christ is so far removed that it has little meaning.
  25. Well, a big flaw of Dungeon Siege was its absolutely boring setting and story. It was about as generic as you can get. This setting actually sounds a bit more innovative, so I'm not completely dismissive about it.
