Strike Three... the 2021 Baseball Thread
Certainly not me. I still expect them to fall back to earth a bit. It's a long season. But it has been a fun ride so far.

What you've done today - The Edge of Night
Running is strange. As a runner, I feel like over the course of any month I spend two weeks feeling out of shape, 2 weeks feeling injured, and a few days feeling amazing and fast. But those few days are really good! My wife and I spent the weekend in San Francisco for our 18th anniversary. I had the best spaghetti and meatballs ever in North Beach. Sunday morning I woke up and ran to the Golden Gate Bridge, and it was beautiful. There were a ton of people out running, cycling, and swimming in the bay. I came into running pretty late. I didn't start until I was about 35. In High School, it was all hockey, and if I wanted to get some cardio, I would grab roller blades and skate. Rollerblading was such a big deal in the 90's! It is odd how completely that died out. When I reached 35, I was slowing down and had a fair amount of extra beer weight, so I needed something to get moving again. My kids were no longer a good excuse to be out of shape, because they were old enough to survive for a little bit of time on their own. I bought a cheap pair of running shoes and started doing a mile a day. Within the first year, a good chunk of the weight had fallen off, and I started feeling like I was getting faster. By the time I hit 40 I felt way better than I had at 30. We will see how I feel when I hit 50.

Eh, I had big issues with DA2, but I don't think that was a universally held belief, and they impressed most people with DA:I to right that ship.

Funny Stuff: The Funny Awakens
Why is this funny? It seems pretty tragic that somebody would waste 2 and a half years of their lives just so they could target the lgbt community. That's some pretty deep seeded bigotry.

I enjoyed Cyberpunk quite a bit and I have a feeling I am not alone in that. I'd say it is safe to say CDPR will be fine for their next couple games.

The all things Political topic -In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
I'm going to let everyone in on a little secret. Education frameworks and standards are all cyclical. Every set amount of years someone comes up with some new theory for their doctoral thesis, and it is really just a new name for the same thing we did previously. None of it really matters in the long run. What matters is the kids show up, they learn how to do some work and hopefully they learn to use their brains, and then they graduate. It's pretty simple.

I don't teach math, and I don't really like the math teachers on my campus, so I have no clue. 😉 Honestly though, there is no real easy answer for math levelling. The framework is not for High School, so when math gets serious, kids are still going to have some choice on what path they want to follow. At the middle school level, I work at a place where math is the big focus. None of the high level math kids do "only" the math class. They have weird math clubs, weekend stuff, competitions to get ahead. Actually a lot of this equity stuff started with No Child Left Behind and the Bush administration, so it is funny to see it blamed on liberal Cali.

A Fifth of Coronavirus
I am not sure the use of the word expert is warranted.

A Fifth of Coronavirus
Pfizer is going to be approved for 13 and up soon. I have no problem getting my 14 year old daughter vaccinated. She is a fully grown person for the most part. My wife and I had the pfizer vaccine and it was a breeze. I'm a little more nervous about my 10-year old son. He's still pretty small. But that is probably silly.

Food Thread - What are you eating?
My daughter requested spicy crab for her 14tg birthday, so we are at a place called the Boiling Crab. She ordered King Crab legs, my wife got snow crab legs, and I got shrimp. Trying to keep the cost down a bit.

Kavanaugh seems to be the new weak link for me on the Supreme Court. Thomas actually grew on me because of constistency. I don't always agree with him, but I get his agenda and it doesn't change with the political landscape.

Avatar was fantastic as a family friendly version of Aliens. My kids could watch it and enjoy the blue elves and nature, and I could enjoy the space marine going aggro in a mech.

Funny Stuff: Revenge of the Funny

I should clarify, it just didn't seem like it is very simple to engage in the refund process. I am glad to hear they solve the tickets in a timely manner, but it seems like you have to go from galaxy to a browser, and then submit a request through support. I've yet to ask for a refund, although I regret not doing it for Rome: Imperator in a timely manner. Steam is a bit more clear cut and simple in that regard.- What Are you Playing Now: Living the Good Life
Conan Exiles has put some fantastic enemy camps around the Isle of Siptah. They used to be pretty cookie cutterish on the mainland, but these ones have their own sort of story to them. Also the loot seems a lot better. I'm level 40 now and it's a good challenge to go in with my Stygian sidekick and try and pillage their belongings. Also there is this awesome Stygian fortress near my base that I've only scratched the surface on. Plus this island is made with the horse in mind, so it is actually enjoyable galloping across the grassy plains near my home.- Good Old Games still good
Interesting. I started using Galaxy this last year and even bought a couple new games through them, instead of just classics, so I supposed I am part of the growth. Although the low refund rate is interesting, because it seems much harder to get a refund from them compared to Steam.- What you've done today - The Edge of Night
Unless you are talking about Xcom, because an 80% hit chance will always miss.- A Fifth of Coronavirus
I think I've railed against the follies of private schools enough, so I won't get into this story.- General movie thread!!!!
He got beat up on all film, and then he got armor that let him get beat up on. Seemed reasonable to me. He was very good as an actor and in the action, I thought. His fight with Goro was great.- The TV and Streaming thread Series 4
It really needs to change the format. They want it to be this glamorous night where we get a peak at all the people behind the movie magic. But there is nothing really mysterious about celebrities anymore. We see them all the time now. We have constant access to their lives. Ricky Gervais made it into a mockery, rightly so, and you can't go back to taking it seriously. It should either be a simplified way of recognizing those who work in the industry, or it should focus way more on the behind the scenes action. Like go deep on the nooks and crannies of the studio lots. We have enough access to the stars, I want to know more about the key grip.- What Are you Playing Now: Living the Good Life
The stories are rarely all that engaging, though. I mean, Horizon: Zero Dawn was above average, but I remember there was some big reveal 20+ hours in that was pretty predictable, and then it became clear what the end was going to look like (spoiler alert: you need to fight a boss at the end.) Most of these open world games don't really keep me on the edge of my seat with story. The exception is probably Saint's Row 2.- The all things Political topic -In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
Seems like a very negative way to say we need to be more positive about the world we live in.- What Are you Playing Now: Living the Good Life
Maybe you just need to adjust your expectations on how the game will play out for you. I mean, clearly you enjoyed the first half of the game. You probably got a lot of hoursof enjoyment out of that. Why isn't that enough? Do you really need to complete all the content to call it a good experience? I don't go into open world games expecting to finish anything anymore. I go in to explore, and when it gets tedious, I stop.- The State of Mind in the US
I delivered groceries to a guy in an RV yesterday. He was parked on the street next to an RV repair shop, rather than in a park. I talked to him quite a bit as I unloaded. He said he had lost his spot at a nearby park, and the repair shop was letting him use their address for deliveries. He said he was an engineer, but he was on disability, and he was just trying to get healthy so he could get back to work. I had a good conversation with the guy, he was friendly and personable. I was pretty upset afterwards. First off, I'm delivering stuff that I know is unhealthy for this guy. 15 bottles of Pepsi Zero are not going to help him get better. Secondly I'm like, where are the services to help this guy. He seemed intelligent, it didn't seem like drugs were an issue. He was unhealthy and disabled, but it seems like we should have systems in place to help people with better nutrition, better mental health, and better physical health. I think we just let people like this languish in poverty and it sucks. - Good Old Games still good
