  1. WandaVision is very good. I have no idea where it is going to go, but so far the first 3 episodes are great. I watched it with my daughter and it flew by way too fast.
  2. Man, I don't even teach Gov & Econ.
  3. I bought a mix and a decent bottle of Vodka to make some Moscow Mules for tonight. No copper cup, but still a tasty break from my typical IPA's. Digital learning and instacarting has definitely driven me to more drinking than usual. At least I ran 7 miles before getting drunk.
  4. Good to remember as people worry about a tax rate that won't affect 90% of us.
  5. Outside The Wire - Military thriller with robots and a cyborg. Bit of a Heart of Darkness feel to it. Good action, good acting, and a solid pace made it an enjoyable watch. Nothing groundbreaking, but fairly fun.
  6. That sounds a little like communism, GD.
  7. What in human history makes you think large groups of humans will make responsible decisions?
  8. Reagan was a celebrity president, though. Sure, he took a longer route to the White House than Trump, but I just don't think anyone has gotten anything out of their system.
  9. Hey, he ate McDonalds. Trump was a man of the people.
  10. We send people to prison for the dumbest stuff. Both of those rappers pardoned had weird cases. Seems ridiculous that a president has to even be involved in something like that.
  11. The way I remember it, based off memory and no looking it up, there was a viking who was exiled from Iceland. Erik the Red, maybe? I think it was Lief Erickson's dad. Anyway, he sailed off and found a chunk of pretty hard land, but sold it as Greenland to get people to sail west. It probably was a bit less harsh than it is today, because there is some evidence there was a warming trend around the time. But it was still pretty harsh and the settlements didn't last long. Pretty sure I am off on some facts, but that might be the gist. edit: I was closer than I thought! Here is the medieval warming period that made it more hospitable: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age
  12. Yep. He was great in that and Knives Out.
  13. Cowboys and Aliens played it straight? I thought it was camp from the start. I enjoyed watching Daniel Craig in a silly role. It is a good break from his Bond work.
  14. I do not trust enough to click on the broken link.
  15. Come on guys, don't pick on Skarpie. They caught the leader of Antifa! This is great news, the movement is probably over now. Now if they can just round up the leader of the other side, we will be doing great. If only we knew who it is?
  16. Jerkface. I know a number of miserable accountants living in nice houses. My wife and I are in education and can't buy a house, but we do love our jobs. It's a tough trade off. Also, the pandemic is decimating an already bleak teacher shortage in the US: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/09/teacher-shortage-and-covid-19-create-challenge-for-education-system.html#:~:text=Help Wanted-,A shortage of teachers and Covid-19 create a,storm for the education system&text=The Economic Policy Institute reports, below its year-ago levels.
  17. Wait, on that AOC story, Snopes is saying she WAS in front of a detention center, not an empty parking lot. Why did you post that?
  18. That sounds good. You have inspired me to start drinking. That and the political thread.
  19. Vocational schools are great, btw. I hammer it into my students on the regular that plumbers, mechanics, and electricians make very good money. But those people are thriving in the pandemic, either. Not really my solution. I'd rather see reasonable taxation of the wealthy and economic reform that doesn't allows the big fish to thrive while the little fish die. It obviously isn't a simple thing to fix. But we keep trusting the big fish to fix it, for some reason.
  20. In the midst of a global pandemic, billionaires have increased their wealth while everyone else is struggling. You really think people just need to be smarter with money to get ahead? There is economic data showing a stagnant middle class, growing inequity in wealth distribution, and rising costs in housing, college, health care, food, etc. There are SYSTEMATIC PROBLEMS IN OUR ECONOMY. It isn't just that I overpaid for my papusas I had for dinner last night.
  21. I love that Gretzky video, watched it a few weeks ago. Sharks are going to be very Sharky. I don't think they will make the playoffs. But I am excited to watch Patty Marleau break the most games played record. Eff that guy in the first video, he can still play. He had 10 goals in 58 games last season, and 3 of them were game winners, so he can still get it done. Considering the lack of depth on offense the team has, he will get some good looks on his way to breaking Gordie Howe's record. I've been watching him play in San Jose since he was 17, and I am the same age, so of course I'm biased. But the guy has had an amazingly consistent career. He gets knocked for not winning major awards, but he is in rare company with his career numbers.
  22. Look, I'm not for nationalizing anything outside of healthcare, but I think you are missing out on the current outlook for young people in the country today. They can't buy houses, their 'college funds' don't come close to covering the costs, and everyone in the middle is slowly falling behind. The pandemic has made it even worse. This was a fun read I pulled up while looking into stuff this morning. I'd love to see an update after 2020. https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2020/01/09/most-americans-say-there-is-too-much-economic-inequality-in-the-u-s-but-fewer-than-half-call-it-a-top-priority/
