  1. Huh, I was planning on picking this up on Tuesday. Well, if it doesn't come out, I can go pick up Brutal Legend this month instead.

I don't know if it was pointed out, but when two underage people have sex, it is nearly impossible to put one of them on trial unless the other is claiming rape. Statutory rape is really only used against people over 18 in the US. As a minor, you are pretty well protected. I'd be happy to hear any evidence otherwise, but personally I'm not going to do a search on underage sex and statutory rape.

I'm very concerned about the Sharks defense this year. Vlasic was the worst player on the ice in the playoffs last year. I thought it might be an anomaly, he had a promising career up until then, but he looked pretty bad last night too. And Huskins looks bad, I don't understand why they gave him a $3 million contract before he even played a game. Basically we've got one stud in Boyle, one decent old guy in Blake, one hitter in Murray, and the rest look lost on the ice. It is going to be a rough first twenty games.
  4. Pretty much depending on what direction you go at the start of the game, you can have a dramatically different experience.

I think it was a *wink* *wink* comment because she is super hot.

Brendan Shanahan might be retiring. He's accomplished a ton, but it is still hard to see him go. He's been my favorite player since I started following hockey about 18 years ago. He might still sign on with a team, he had 14 points in 34 games last year, so he still knows his way around the scoring sheet.

I do not think 18 is too high. I understand the complications this can cause when you have an 18 or 19 year old with a 16 or 17 year old, but those cases are typically only prosecuted if there is a parental figure pushing for it. So the big trick is to stay on the good side of the parents when you are shagging someone. Age of consent is similar to the speed limit, in that there has to be other factors involved to really make the case. Going 5 miles over the speed limit is rarely going to be a problem, but going 50 MPH in a school zone after taking drugs is going to get the book thrown at you.
  9. Wow, I had totally forgotten that was a Bethesda title, it was in 1990! I remember it would crash a lot on my 386.
  10. I'm not quite sure how 6 seasons constitutes being strung on too long. That seems pretty reasonable.
  11. I just don't think the Terminator games sold well, compared to Quake and Doom. Which is a shame, because they were very good, particularly for a title based on a movie franchise.
  12. Ah, the Terminator game. Yes, that was awesome, one of the earliest solid implementations of a sniper rifle that I remember. I thought it was called Skynet?

To be fair, Wrath of Dagon is in the 6-8th grade range, and I think he does pretty well for his age.
  14. The past is in the past. Lots of talent left after Morrowind. Bethesda is now basically the LucasArts of the RPG genre. I don't even know what that means. And what the heck is Future Shock? Personally I always wished Bethesda pursued the gameplay from Redguard a bit more, that was a fun title. I'd rate Fallout 3 ahead of Morrowind. Both created an interesting world and had solid atmosphere, but the voice work and quests were more engaging in F3. But that is splitting hairs, they were both very good games.
  15. I wasn't happy with Madden 10. They've abandoned the Be a Pro mode, it's really lackluster. The gameplay is still as good as usual, but it just seems like they cut back on a lot of the neat franchise options from the past. It pales in comparison to NHL 10, that's for sure.
  16. I'm pretty excited to see that new Zombie movie, Zombieland.
  17. I'm not sure about AC, because it is a high end game graphically, but with a video card that seems like it would be a decent rig. Is he using the onboard video?
  18. Yeah, I'm starting to question Garcia's health. I mean it makes sense that Philly let him go now that their backup has proven to be solid, and it's typical for the Raiders to make bad decisions, so it might just be bad luck. But he also had some sort of injury that kept him out of the early preseason, so who knows?

Do you think this will hurt Vancouver this season?

Yes, hence the need to distinguish the differences between a male and a female.

While I have trouble swallowing this (I guess, following this, that Gfted1 must be horribly scarred from the experience, for one), I'm going to let it slide, and pose a question instead. Is this an impossibility in the same sense as "a human cannot survive in a vacuum", or just a result of how our children are reared and other cultural influences? During the Classical period, girls were bethrothed just after reaching sexual maturity, generally to older men. They were mature enough for maternity. There were many factors contributing to the collapse of the Roman Empire, but women marrying and becoming mothers while in their teens wasn't one of them. Does this even have any semblance of scientific rigour? There are quite a few factors that go into a 13-year old not being emotionally developed enough to handle a sexual relationship, particularly with a 44-year old man, but I will address the cultural issues in comparing Ancient Rome to our modern day. In the past, that was a woman's sole purpose according to society, get married, rear children, rinse, repeat. Today's women, at least in most developed nations, are expected to get an education and to develop as an individual. When an older person gets into a sexual relationship with a younger person, they are creating a very serious reliance and it is a relationship that can easily be manipulated by the older party. The laws are written to protect young people from being manipulated and giving them a chance to get an education and develop as an individual. There is a pretty clear difference between a sexual relationship for a boy and a girl. It can still be an emotionally scarring experience for a boy, but girls also struggle with the concepts of pregnancy. I've seen a lot of teenage pregnancies during my time as a teacher, and it is always tragic. No matter what route they go, their life is changed permanently and their childhood is over.

The guy should serve his time. I've taught 12-13 year old kids for the last six years, and the very idea makes me sick to my stomach. There are no 13 year old kids that have the maturity to deal with a sexual relationship.
  24. Anyone who has watched all three should really read "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Star" by Bruce Campbell. It is brilliant. http://www.amazon.com/If-Chins-Could-Kill-...s/dp/0312242646
