Bioware/Bethesda appreciation thread
Hurlshort replied to WILL THE ALMIGHTY's topic in Computer and Console
I bought the PS3 for MLB 09 The Show, and it really is awesome. You guys are still terrible at appreciation threads. -
Wow, really sorry to hear that. My condolences. Sorry for your loss Wals. It sounds like you and your family were really there for her over the last couple months, and it sounds like she found peace. Take care.

It's a game, they are all time-sinks. It's not like we are going to suddenly find the cure for cancer at the end of Dragon Age.

That was 2 parts funny and 1 part lewd. Interesting.

It was OK. If you really enjoyed it though I can't stress enough that you should buy the book it's based on, Hurlshot. It's about 10 times better. Please, if you ever listen to me about one thing, let it be this. http://www.amazon.com/Yes-Man-Danny-Wallace/dp/1416918345 Is it a self-help book? It does look pretty interesting, I'll keep an eye out for it at the bookstore. I always enjoy book recommendations :D

Favorite RTS and why do you like it
Hurlshort replied to tubgoatstugboats's topic in Computer and Console
I would say Myth as well. I don't enjoy the resource management, so it was perfect for me. I'm not sure I'd call the Total War games an RTS. I mean you technically never even need to go into the real time aspect of the game to play it. -
You can't objectively say it's the "worst game ever", if it were, there wouldn't be ~11.5 million people playing it. It's just not for you. Maybe you were sad because you didn't have any friends to play with? I also noticed the "did everything there was to do at the time" line. Does that mean you leveled up to 60 and then decided you hate the game? Because that is crazy talk, if you put in hundreds of hours on a game in order to decide you hate it, I don't think it is the game with the issues.

Yes Man - I really enjoyed it. It was similar to Liar Liar, Jim Carrey just dealing with odd situations.

Yep, Best Buy is pretty limited on selection, but putting it on my Best Buy card is wonderfully convenient when I don't have the funds available that day.

I preferred WoW's consistent art direction to Everquest 2, which had some high end stuff but also had some areas that just didn't fit. The Undercity always amazed me, it was like walking through a Tim Burton movie.

Probably to make more money.

If it's under warranty, they should definitely give you a rental, especially if they messed something up. I usually take a rental if they are going to be more than a couple hours in fixing it.

You can instead shoot heroin into your bloodstream, it would be better then WoW. This is true, your better off not spending any time with it. It might be healthier, but $15 a month won't get you much heroin.

Giants are whooping the Rockies right now. If they can take the series, it should give them a nice edge for the wild card. The Giants pitching is just sick. I knew Lincecum, Cain, and closer Brian Wilson were good, but Zito has been great, Sanchez is coming into his own, and Jeremy Affeldt has been a fantastic middle reliever. Once Randy Johnson comes back, they have 5 starters that can shut teams down completely.

Grats Calax. My video card pooped out today, just start giving glitches when booting and would only load in safe mode. I looked it up, and it looks like a lot of 8800GTX cards poop out around the 2 year mark. I was pretty dismayed, it isn't under warranty, so I bought a Radeon HD4850 at Best Buy to replace it. So far it seems like a very good card, and the price was under $200.

Finished the first two days of school. I had this idea to greet each student as they came in the door this year in an effort to learn names faster. The first thing I learned is that only about 1 in 10 middle schoolers know how to give a firm handshake.

Developer involvement in community discussions
Hurlshort replied to TwinkieGorilla's topic in Computer and Console
I have to disagree with this. Majority of regulars in this board care only what they want. It's understandable but at the same time it's useless info for the developers. To make matters even worse, this many in this board are interested of niche games or design choices that are financially extremely risky. Budget, development time or resources mean very little for the board members, but are just about everything for the developers. We DEMAND that developers listen to us but at the same time have barely any idea what going on. It's best that developers ignore us. See the thing is interaction between fans and developers didn't used to be just about getting what you want. That's where I see the loss nowadays. I almost feel like the issue here is too much access between fans and developers. Sure, a small developer with a small following can spend some time communicating on a forum, but Bioware and Bethesda boards are overloaded, and many of the regular posters are frighteningly out of touch with reality. I don't mean to make it sound like we can't make a difference in the development of a title. If we have a bunch of people all asking for the same feature, then it will probably get through to the developer. But they aren't going to respond to it often because they have to weigh other factors, and in the end if it doesn't make the cut, that isn't something they want to explain. -
I'm not even online with the PS3. My internet sucks and Home isn't worth dealing with it.

Developer involvement in community discussions
Hurlshort replied to TwinkieGorilla's topic in Computer and Console
I think it is neat to have a community manager, or at least someone on the inside giving the occasional scoop (like when Cantousent did his testing.) I don't think developers should feel the need to spend much time on the forums. They have better things to do, and forums really represent a very minor part of the player base they are making games for. In other words, we aren't very important, developers made wonderful games before forums existed. -
I went through two 360's. The third was starting to act funny. I figured I should trade it in before it went kaput, so I had to choose between buying a new 360 and a PS3. In the end, it was really just the fact that I already played the 360 for three years that made me choose the PS3. It was a great system, Xbox Live is fantastic, and despite the hardware issues I don't regret my original purchase.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about it. Is this the Butcher Bay team? I'll probably pick it up over the holidays.

This sounds fantastic! Let me just turn this thing o-

North Korea: Great Country, or Greatest Country?
Hurlshort replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
Awesome, missed this gem earlier! Lee Harvey Oswald emigrated to Russia. But he wasn't happy with the fact they made him a common workman or something, so he complained until they sent him back to the US. -
North Korea: Great Country, or Greatest Country?
Hurlshort replied to lord of flies's topic in Way Off-Topic
If North Korea is such a nice place, why are there so many North Koreans trying to get out of the country? It's a simple formula, people try to sneak into good countries and out of bad ones. -
