  1. North Face gear is great and it lasts forever.
  2. LotRO actually lets you play as gollum in sections and it is pretty well done as a story telling device.
  3. I started up Outer Worlds again, thanks to Tim Cain and his youtube videos. I went for a supernova playthrough at first. I love the need to actually consume the food and drink. In my first time, it all just kind of stacked up and I used very little of it, but this made me pay attention. I don't like the lack of saving though. Pavarti gets killed a lot, and I feel like I end up having to re-do too much stuff. I think I'll just restart in normal or hard. It's been awhile since I played it, so it feels pretty fresh, but I don't want to burn out in the first area.
  4. Desantis doesn't exactly have stormtroopers at his disposal. He's got quite a cult of personality going on in Florida, but he's facing off against both Trump and Mickey Mouse, and my guess is Disney will win out in the end. Book banning (and book burning) is also not a new thing in the US, but it's always been limited in scale. Getting anything like that done on a Federal level is a lot more complicated. There are always outlier states. Florida and Texas seem like crazy places to me, but they say the same thing about California.
  5. Malkavian was the best play through, for sure. I really got into the madness of it all.
  6. I never understood the appeal in the first place. I didn't read the books or watch the movies and think, "Man, I really want to be this gross creature that lives under a mountain."
  7. I was actually thinking we were going to get clean sweeps in both the NBA and NHL finals. That would be pretty bizarre.
  8. White Men Can't Jump (2023) - This was very good. The premise is similar to the original, but the story is very different. The actors were all great and it was a lot of dialogue. Like, I probably need to watch it again to catch more of the conversations. It was fast paced and fun.
  9. Good to see Total War getting back to a non-fantasy setting, and one that doesn't get enough coverage to boot. I'll definitely pick that one up.
  10. The Lego Harry Potter games were good.
  11. I finished Ironman Morro Bay on Saturday. It was a fantastic race and a beautiful course, and I took about 7 minutes off my best time for the distance. I finished in 5:43. The big difference was fueling well on the bike, so I was able to run well. I ran a 1:53 half, and I felt really good for most of it. The swim was cold and murky, but you got to stare at Morro Rock for most of it, so it was still fun. I struggled to get my hands to work and get out of the wetsuit, but I'm really glad I wore aquasocks because my feet were not numb. Once I got on the bike I really felt good, and we had a tailwind on the second half. I averaged 19.7 mph. So close to 20! It was a very good day, for sure.
  12. Man, 58. Life is too short.
  13. This was pretty predictable. The Lakers had to play AD and Lebron a ton of minutes in a fast, physical series against the Warriors. Denver is rested and very capaple of being physically dominant. They've got a pretty good path to a championship.
  14. I remember watching a Mario and Luigi TV show as a kid. That theme song rocks.
  15. Aw, but you get a medal and a t-shirt when you go on a race-cation. Honestly at my age, if I don't exercise while on vacation, I just feel terrible. I can eat and drink merrily if I go run it off in the AM.
  16. I think soapboxing has more of a lecturing connotation to it.
  17. Today my wife and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, which is a pretty crazy landmark. It has flown by. We are heading to Morro Bay this weekend. I'm actually racing a half-ironman on Saturday, so it is more of a race-cation, but she seems to be onboard with it. I'll take her out to a nice dinner.
  18. It's a political term used for the practice of traveling around and making speeches to different towns. It comes from the practice of standing on an actual stump in towns that didn't have a stage. That might be a bit of an apocryphal story, but the idiom remains.
  19. Yeah, the one guy brought up the differences between race and nationality, and he was on point. The Egyptian comedian brought up Israel more than once, so it's pretty clear his anger on this casting is deeper than skin color. He also seems pretty concerned with Kevin Hart not building the pyramids. It's hard to take cries of "Stealing my culture!" over a Netflix documentary seriously when stuff like Rhodesia is in the history books.
  20. I think Jennifer Lawrence is J-Law. I hate that I know these things. I also realized that with Air and The Mother, I basically spent the weekend with Bennifer.
  21. The Mother - J-Lo kills people to protect her daughter. We watched on mother's day, so it fit the vibe, I guess. It was pretty average, but the acting was decent. Just don't think about the villains too hard. Joseph Fiennes is always fun to see. Air - This was a phenomenal telling of how Nike hitched their train to Michael Jordan. Excellent cast led my Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. It was extremely good. It felt a bit like Glengarry Glen Ross, for some reason. I think just because it was so well acted.
  22. I'm not sure how the current postseason proves that. The Warriors were a flawed team all season long and that played out pretty clearly in the playoffs. The Lakers overhauled their lineup and got hot after the All-Star break, and that carried into the playoffs as well.
  23. This comment is gold when you realize that Hoonding is JE Sawyer's burner account.
  24. It sounds like he has bruised ribs and will probably be limited in the game. That could be a pretty big blow, since he was fantastic last game. They'll either need one of the young guys to step up, or hope Klay or Poole get hot enough where they don't really need his all around great play.
  25. I was pretty excited at the chance for the Warriors to beat KD in the conference finals, but I guess I will have to settle for the Warriors outlasting him in the 2nd round. Also this AD health thing is weird. I never wish for a player to get injured and I'm glad he is cleared to play, but he was looking super woozy and had to use a wheelchair to leave the floor.
