The Obsidian Community all-time top 106 games - FULL RESULTS!
Hurlshort replied to algroth's topic in Computer and Console
This is kind of problem that I want to pick one of the serries (lets say Civilization) but which one, the first one, which defined genre, the other one which popularized it, or the last which is still rising in power. I doubt the original has aged well. Civ 4 is still a pretty decent looking game, so it is worth the money. I recommend the Colonization stand alone as well. -

Interesting to see two Civ games tied, and also that most of the voters were different. Xcom probably should be higher, but what evs -
I didn't want to seem like I was plugging my hometown, but the Bay Area is great. I've taken a number of trips to SF this year just for a nice dinner and drinks. Hard to beat the Italian eateries in North Beach.

I'm more worried about the bacteria and weird algae that might get me in the local reservoirs. In the ocean I'll be surrounded by a bunch of other potential victims. You don't have to be the fastest, just faster than the slowest. You can't outrun flesh eating viruses. Plus I've been reading the Phoenix Point Novellas and they are creepy.

I can't help noticing you don't have New Orleans on your list of places you have visited, and you say you are into food, so what the heck? I mean, maybe wait until the snowpacalypse ends, but doing a trip of the south with all the southern cooking seems like a must-do. I'd recommend eating in Lafayette and Mississippi, and then going to Memphis for BBQ.

California is an easy target for this type of action though. It's basically held up as representative of all things liberal, so where typically conservatives would be uncomfortable with federal powers running roughshod over state rights, it is ok if it is happening to the villainous California.

I'd caution people not to get too caught up in the placement of games on the list. Realistically the amount of people who gave any points to the game is just as important as the amount of points the game received. Also it is hardly surprising Bioware has a lot in the top 100. Whereas there are a number of older and more obscure titles in the top 100+, Bioware games are fairly mainstream and current, so odds are almost everyone here has played them. Actually it's a bit comforting that they haven't cracked the top 20. Of course, BG is still to come, and as I said, placement is a somewhat relative concept here. -
Nerdgasm: Movies and Shows for Geeks and Nerds

As someone who grew up riding my bike past the Winchester Mystery House regularly, that movie looks like a pretty lame use of great source material. -
A couple swimmers got attacked by a sea lion in San Francisco recently, so there are plenty of things out there that want to eat you.

Thanks, you've echoed a few other people on that. Hopefully I do not get attacked by any sea creatures. Also that is probably the best way to test out a wetsuit ahead of time. I'd like to do the Santa Cruz Olympic Triathlon in August. I did grow up surfing and bodyboarding, so hopefully it will come back to me easily enough.

Yeah, that bothered me too. I mean, I get that Star Wars isn't science fiction, but the whole idea that you could just carve through heavily fortified ships in such a way seems pretty lame. -

I meant to vote for HoMM III but messed up and voted for HoMM IX or something weird like that, so nice to see it placed highly. Life is Strange is probably the first game on this thing I know very little about. Honestly it doesn't look like my cup of tea, but everything else on the list is so good. -
Hit the pool early this morning for the first time. I haven't done much in the way of laps in a few years, and even then it was once in a blue moon, so I've got my work cut out for me. The problem is I am totally comfortable doing the breast stroke and could coast through the 1200 meters for the sprint triathlon that way, but I know front crawl (freestyle) is a good 10-15 seconds faster every 100 meters. That's a couple minutes over the course of the race, but right now I can't do more than 50 meters front crawl without gasping for breathe. Just need to train and get my rhythm down. I did run 4 miles today at a 7:48 mile pace, so that felt good. edit: Sorry to hear about your cat LC. I don't know how I missed that before I posted.

I believe in order to qualify a game needs at least two voters, but I don't have the rule book on hand to check. -
Just sharpie trying to be sharp. The US has been doing this for awhile: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megan%27s_Law

How is that a bad thing? Why would you want schools to employ people with that sort of background?

I am not sure that Alpha Protocol makes the list, but I didn't pay close attention to what other people voted for. I am glad I was able to boost LotrO up a bit. Curious where WoW will place in comparison. -

Great to see the real Indy 4 making an appearance. So much better than the Crystal Skull in every way. -

Dragonfall was my favorite. But really it was interesting to watch how they progressed as a development studio over the 3 games. I appreciated the simplicity of the RPG system because it made it easy to play with modding. -
David Fales had a nice introduction to the NFL.

You are a bad person for having this opinion. -
Already done! Actually my leg hair has been worn away from decades of wearing hockey shin guards, so I do have that as an edge.

Yep, I voted Martian Memorandum, so I'm glad that one made it. -
That's only about 1600 yards. It sounds long, but really it is just about 30-45 minutes of steady pacing. That's about 2-3 minutes every 100 yards. I kind of see the swim as the easiest to train because there is little wear and tear on the body. It's strictly about building up the endurance to maintain the pace (access to a pool is another matter.) The bike is the hardest for me. I mean, I know how to ride a bike, but I have no idea about all this strategy stuff and I barely understand how my bike works. There are a lot of gears and places to put my hands.

So I've locked down my Triathlon schedule for the year. I've got a Duathlon in March which should be pretty simple. It is a 2-mile run, 10 mile bike, and then another 2-mile run. I could do that tomorrow, but the key will be to train so my second run time is decent after rubbery bike legs. Then in May I do a Sprint Triathlon, and the biggest hurdle there should be making sure I get in the pool enough to not die in the swim. In July I want to be ready for an Olympic Triathlon, so I figure the first two events will prepare me well.
