The Weird, Random or Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
Hurlshort replied to Blarghagh's topic in Way Off-Topic
My father-in-law has a lot of health issues after driving a truck most of his life, and I was thinking about how sore I was after driving a few long days in the RV, plus reading Keyrock's truck adventures. It got me thinking about how you can stay healthy as a professional driver, and this was the best article I read about it: https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a19534152/on-the-road-fitness/ -

Makes sense. I'm not sure why anyone would risk their career over social media stuff. I guess it makes sense when you are trying to build a following, but once you've made it, just seems like an unnecessary risk. -

Heh, hardly anything new. Marlon Brando has some really crazy stories about his 'process' -

I wouldn't say that. I know Leto is a good actor. I didn't care for his Joker, but a lot of that is the residual of Ledger being the best version, and then his being such a radical departure. Plus the Joker is a much more well known role. I know very little about Morbius and so would go into it with no preconceptions about what the character should be. -
The nice thing is teachers have a decent retirement package, so if I can hang tight for another 15 years or so, I can take my pension and live in a less expensive place.

Xcom 2 is one of my favorite games ever, so I would vote for that one.

Eventually inventory will catch up with demand in the Bay Area, and hopefully that will stabilize the market. It doesn't help that we have a lot of cash buyers coming from overseas that see it as an investment opportunity.

With some light stalking, I was able to figure out the name of his hotel, and it isn't very close to the fires. His place is right in the middle of Athens, while the fire seems to be a bit outside of the city. I am sure it is still pretty chaotic.

Pathfinder Kingmaker is bigger then Deadfire

Oh good, I was afraid I was going crazy (crazier?) when a whole page went by and everyone just glossed over this. That was my fault. For some reason I have trouble keeping Orwell, Orson Wells, and HG Wells separate in my head. I blame video games. -
I live in the Bay Area of California, and I absolutely love it. The community, the weather, the food, etc. I am very lucky to live here and I try to remember that every day as I run and bike around golden fields and meadows. It's unfortunately very expensive to live here, but we make do because we love it and my kids are 7th generation Santa Clara County. Sometimes we talk about moving to another state. I have no interest in leaving the country. I love the US, despite our ridiculous healthcare. I could see myself being happy in some mountain town in the Southwest, as long as there isn't much snow.

I pay $4200 a month on a single family home in rent. Send help. Oh and I don't qualify for the credit because it cuts off at 125k, and my gross is about 130k. Yay.

How do you measure intention? -

Your definition of performer is super wrong. I mean, not correct by any dictionary or commonly accepted standard of the word. A performer doesn't create anything. They perform. Orwell was an actor, director, writer, and producer. He was certainly a performer when he did the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. He was a great artist, but the idea that he was just creating stuff for self-expression is unrealistic. He needed people to buy tickets as well. Beiber could arguably be considered a performer instead of an artist. I do not know what his role is in the creation of his music. I know his producers are given a lot of credit for his success. But regardless, whoever is creating the music is still an artist, no matter how commercial their interests may be. Heck, Shakespeare's later plays go my and more violent because he found that was what sells. Any artist you have ever heard of is in it for more than self-expression. Otherwise why release anything? -

Animal Farm was written in 1945 and continues to sell and be a major part of the literature world, so the idea that it has somehow underperformed compared to the Da Vinci Code is ridiculous. But yeah, profit is the first indicator of success. Beiber and Taylor Swift may not end up being as timeless as Sinatra and Aretha, but they are still artists who have figured out how to succeed in the current market (Actually Taylor Swift is a phenomenal talent and it is insulting to put her in the same class as Beiber, who relies heavily on talented producers to succeed.) -

That's the kind of horror flick I can get into. -
My repetitive dreams usually involve me trying to run fast but I feel like I'm in quicksand, or my hockey game is starting but I can't get my gear on quickly, or I'm trying to get to work but I have to cover a lot of distance in order to get there and time is running out. Also sometimes I am dealing with difficult students in the classroom and keep yelling. Those are the worst.

Heh, reactions did not disappoint. ;P He doesn't need to hit back, she didn't question his ability to hit hard. She might be wrong to ride to the bait, but I believe mathematically two wrongs do not make a right. -

I imagine Prey 2 will be a focus of Arkane moving forward. I have no idea how they build on that story, but they have the benefit of the doubt from me for now. -

The difference between a 60 hour game and a 100 hour game is irrelevant to me. They are both probably too long, but it is more important how long they can keep my attention. Also shouldn't RPG fans want both of these games to succeed? I don't get the pissing contest.- 1094 replies

Speaking of Truckee, I just finished the Donner Lake Olympic Triathlon. The swim went well enough. It is still my weakest event, but I felt comfortable and finished around 70th out of 140, so very middle of the pack. The bike was epic. I had done the route earlier in the week, and I'm glad I did because I felt good climbing and knew how to pace myself. We climbed Donner Pass for about 2400 feet in elevation. I made up a lot of ground and my bike time was good for 40th on the day. The run was one loop around Donner. It was beautiful, but I was definitely dragging a bit in the middle. I know I can do better next year on the run. It was 6.6 miles and I was at about an 8:40 mph pace. My time was 55th there. I ended up 49th overall and 4th in my age group. So close to the podium! Actually not that close, the 3rd place guy in my age group was about 10 minutes ahead of me. Still, this was easily the most fun of the races I've done since I started 7 months ago, and jumping in Donner Lake to cool off at the end was a great moment.

Comparing ST to Farscape is like comparing The Dark Crystal to Fraggle Rock.

Seems pretty obvious. As much as I would love Obsidian to get another shot at it, Bethesda has grown a ton, and unless they buy Obsidian, they have little financial reason to outsource such a major IP. -
They are very different approaches to Science Fiction.
