Is it just me or does the walk/run animation have too many frames in it? -
Giantbomb Quicklook on the 24th

IGN video is much better. The guys at Giantbomb went too fast and kept talking about stuff I wasn't interested in. -
Backer Beta: Coming August 18th

Interesting. The beta comes out right after Gamescom where the game will be available to play for everyone. Heh. I can see some people getting pissed about this. -
Backer Beta: Coming August 18th

I've seen both a "no" to Early Access because they do not want to get bad impressions for an early version, and I've seen articles discussing Early Access with Obsidian where it seemed they were planning on it. It's not known at this time if an EA with Steam will be released alongside the beta like Inxile did. From what I recall, there was a lot of confusion when Inxile did that and some backers resented it. I'm not taking sides on what happened (I didn't care either way), but it didn't go through without some controversy. -
Neither. Sierra did, but they folded. Their IP's, including Arcanum have been now for a long time at Activision. The problem with not calling it Arcanum II is that no one except some forum goers will really know it's sequel, and if Obsidian calls it a "spiritual" sequel Activision will likely take action.

Backer Beta: Coming August 18th

Thanks Obsidian! You sound more and more confident with each update which is terrific! -
With a level 12 cap how badly could you mess up a build? I suspect they're not expecting people to get past level 8-10 unless they do every bit of content. I also suspect they're balancing things so only a completionist can really mess up a build, and those are exactly the people who won't unless they intend to.

August would be awesome but with Wasteland 2 being released then I'd say it's probably better to wait until September/November. Have they said anything about the scope of the beta? Is it still a small area with no spoilers?

Please reconsider your stance on a couple of months before any new footage is released to the backers/public. Thank you.

The devs of Forsaken Fortress explained they had all these cool ideas they were trying out and building the tech for. That's what we see in the early videos. Then they put it together into a game and found it would barely run because of all the resources it consumed. By that time it was already too late. They have run out of money and are only working on it part time. A real shame since the concept was pretty good.

This is a very good point. Even if it meant taking someone off from real work for a week to prepare it for an E3 backer update. What I find interesting is 99% of people who follow E3 do it off the gaming media sites. We don't actually go to E3 (it's largely an industry thing anyway). An E3 backer update would have been in much better taste. Ayway, horse beaten to death. This will be my last post on the topic. I just wanted to express my frustration with this decision.

I think people just want the same access the game media folks are getting. That's all.

Indeed. Personally, whether or not I back another Obsidian kickstarter for big dollars will depend solely on what PoE turns out to be like. If it's all that they said they would do, then they'll see (much) more of my money on another kickstarter. If not, they won't. Simple as that. I don't personally care when I get to see gameplay footage. I care about the end product. I now only back (crowd funded games) by small indie teams that aren't going crazy with PR out of the gate. I honestly find it's better suited to the experience I expect from this sort of patronage. Whenever there's a business there's PR and this sort of behind the door exclusivity leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's not a slap in the face or the end of the world or anything. It just shows where Obsidian's priorities are. Those priorities are probably good ones to have (if you're Obsidian).

Very professionally done update. I'm liking how you're on track. Looking forward to beta.

More screenshots. I think the art is lovely!
